Die Untersuchung konzentriert sich auf Veränderungen in der politischen Landschaft in Deutschland und analysiert insbesondere, wie soziale Medien als Plattformen für politische Informationen und Meinungsbildung von politischen Akteuren, Bürgern sowie Influencern genutzt werden. Dabei wird analysiert, inwiefern soziale Medien den politischen Diskurs beeinflussen, politische Themen setzen und welche Auswirkungen sie auf Wahlen und politische Entscheidungsprozesse haben. Die These, die in dieser Arbeit aufgestellt wird, lautet, dass soziale Medien sowohl dazu beitragen können, politische Informationen zu verbreiten und politische Diskussionen zu fördern, was zur politischen Partizipation beitragen kann. Gleichzeitig besteht jedoch das Risiko, dass sie uninformierte Nutzer beeinflussen und den politischen Diskurs verflachen oder polarisieren.
