Book excerpt: Following a regretful bunch through a violent universe, Devilish: Xinmao is the first step into a new series. Already living in a traumatic world, four lost souls will witness a horror whispering madness through their memories. "With each blow, her pupils shrunk, and her knuckles bled a little more. She didn't care who or what all the blood on her hands, face, and clothes belonged to. The more she looked at the collapsed skull, the angrier she got, the tears flowing from her cheeks. She kept hitting it pointlessly with both of her hands, until that moment when the sadness suppressed the fury that had enveloped her body. No matter how much savagery she contributed just now, she could never go back to this morning. She couldn't save someone she loved so dearly. This regret, which she couldn't help, would grow into a tumour in her heart until the young woman took her last breath."

This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Play Me Something Quick and Devilish explores the heritage of traditional fiddle music in Missouri. Howard Wight Marshall considers the place of homemade music in people’s lives across social and ethnic communities from the late 1700s to the World War I years and into the early 1920s. This exceptionally important and complex period provided the foundations in history and settlement for the evolution of today’s old-time fiddling. Beginning with the French villages on the Mississippi River, Marshall leads us chronologically through the settlement of the state and how these communities established our cultural heritage. Other core populations include the “Old Stock Americans” (primarily Scotch-Irish from Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia), African Americans, German-speaking immigrants, people with American Indian ancestry (focusing on Cherokee families dating from the Trail of Tears in the 1830s), and Irish railroad workers in the post–Civil War period. These are the primary communities whose fiddle and dance traditions came together on the Missouri frontier to cultivate the bounty of old-time fiddling enjoyed today. Marshall also investigates themes in the continuing evolution of fiddle traditions. These themes include the use of the violin in Westward migration, in the Civil War years, and in the railroad boom that changed history. Of course, musical tastes shift over time, and the rise of music literacy in the late Victorian period, as evidenced by the brass band movement and immigrant music teachers in small towns, affected fiddling. The contributions of music publishing as well as the surprising importance of ragtime and early jazz also had profound effects. Much of the old-time fiddlers’ repertory arises not from the inherited reels, jigs, and hornpipes from the British Isles, nor from the waltzes, schottisches, and polkas from the Continent, but from the prolific pens of Tin Pan Alley. Marshall also examines regional styles in Missouri fiddling and comments on the future of this time-honored, and changing, tradition. Documentary in nature, this social history draws on various academic disciplines and oral histories recorded in Marshall’s forty-some years of research and field experience. Historians, music aficionados, and lay people interested in Missouri folk heritage—as well as fiddlers, of course—will find Play Me Something Quick and Devilish an entertaining and enlightening read. With 39 tunes, the enclosed Voyager Records companion CD includes a historic sampler of Missouri fiddlers and styles from 1955 to 2012. Book excerpt: Fans who adore Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sabrina Jeffries will savor Ashlyn Macnamara’s sensual new novel, which proves that two hearts are better than one. Years ago, when Isabelle Mears was still a young miss too infatuated to know better, she surrendered her innocence to a dishonorable man. Though ruined and cast out from society, she has worked hard to shelter her illegitimate son, Jack. Having sworn off men in her quiet but dignified life, Isabelle is unprepared for the deep longing that rips through her when a handsome stranger rescues her rambunctious six-year-old from the pounding ocean surf. George Upperton is a man in trouble with debts, women, and a meddling family. He is, by all accounts, the last gentleman on earth Isabelle should be drawn to. But loneliness is a hard mistress, and caution gives way to desire . . . even though Isabelle is convinced that happiness can’t be found in the arms of such a devilish rogue. Only when Jack is kidnapped does Isabelle discover the true depth of George’s devotion—and how far a good man will go to fight for the woman whose love is all that matters. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a great need for combating ignorance in the area of understanding the evil forces that are at work in our world. This author seeks to address and highlight some of the ways the devil and his minions use to further anarchy and undermine God's order through devilish devices. The Lord God who made the heavens and the earth and whose providence governs His creation enables His servants, through insight and expereince, to record and pass on what they have found to be true. Such revelation is intended to benefit those who believe and receive the truth as it is in God's sovereign rule and reign. This little book combines personal expereince and biblical reflection to present scenerios and situations that the enemy of mankind's soul uses to further his destructive ways. Spiritual warfare impacts all on planet earth and yet relatively few grasp this. Even fewer battle effectively in this crucial aspect of our fallen world. This book endeavors to present truth that will help guard and guide those who believe such evil exists. It further seeks to bridge the category of 'spiritual warfare' with other central tenets and important doctrines of the Christian faith as recorded in the Holy Bible.

Book excerpt: A thrilling account of the 1911 Siege of Sidney Street—when a young Winston Churchill allowed two immigrant revolutionaries to burn to death in London’s East End. On January 3, 1911, police discovered Latvian revolutionaries on the lam in London’s East End. A six-hour gunfight ensued until fire consumed the building where the radicals had taken refuge. When a not-yet-prime-minister Winston Churchill arrived at the scene, he ordered officials to let the fire run its course. At least two people burned to death in the blaze, but the Latvian ringleader, Peter the Painter, remained at large. Known as the Siege of Sidney Street, the event was a nationwide sensation and ignited fierce debates about immigration, extremism, and law enforcement. This book unravels the full story of the siege, the Latvian expatriates, and London’s vibrant anarchist movement in the early twentieth century.

Adrian Ruxley may be a ruggedly charming rogue, but he’s not a man to stand idly by while a lady is accosted—even at a wedding organized by the lady herself, Emma Boscastle, instructress in the social graces at her London academy for young gentlewomen. Adrian confronts the offender, a scuffle ensues, and now this smooth-talking heir is left to recuperate under Emma’s very roof, delighted to see the deep concern in her lovely face. She has a charm no scoundrel can resist. Emma is scandalized by her own behavior—seduced by a handsome stranger, indeed! How will she be able to hide her indiscretion from the perceptive Boscastle siblings? The divine passion that Adrian has unleashed, and the sensual delights he has shown her, have suddenly turned Emma’s days at the fledgling academy into a display of impropriety and her nights into a velvet abyss of sensual abandon. But as their intimacy reveals Adrian’s turbulent secrets, Emma is inspired to her most ambitious endeavor: redeeming a rake.
