La naissance et le développement des tourbillons générés en régime transitoire sont analysés par une étude topologique et une exploitation des champs instantanés.

Velocity maps help us to understand the mean flow structure and its fluctuations, in order to further validate codes. Laser velocimetry is an optical technique for velocity measurements; it is based on light scattering by tiny particles assumed to follow the flow, which allows the local fluid flow velocity and its fluctuations to be determined. It is a widely used non-intrusive technique to measure velocities in fluid flows, either locally or in a map. This book presents the various techniques of laser velocimetry, as well as their specific qualities: local measurements or in plane maps, mean or instantaneous values, 3D measurements. Flow seeding with particles is described with currently used products, as well as the appropriate aerosol generators. Post-processing of data allows us to extract synthetic information from measurements and to perform comparisons with results issued from CFD codes. The principles and characteristics of the different available techniques, all based on the scattering of light by tiny particles embedded in the flow, are described in detail; showing how they deliver different information, either locally or in a map, mean values and turbulence characteristics.

Book excerpt: Ce travail consiste aux développements et à l'amélioration de techniques expérimentales de mesures 3D de vitesses au sein d'écoulement de fluide. Ces techniques sont des systèmes de vélocimétrie par image de particule (PIV) stéréoscopique en configuration angulaire. Des méthodes et des montages sont proposés pour déterminer avec précision les erreurs de mesure, pour diminuer et corriger ces erreurs, mais aussi pour simplifier la mise en œuvre de ces techniques. Les problèmes liés aux calibrages des caméras, et aux erreurs commises en cas de désalignement du plan d'observation (plan laser) par rapport au plan de calibrage, sont analysés et résolus. 2 méthodes ont été proposées pour corriger ces erreurs, qui peuvent être importantes dans certains cas. 2 types d'objectif sont étudiés, utilisés et comparés : les objectifs standards et les objectifs télécentriques. En particulier, les auto-dimensionnements des systèmes stéréoscopiques sont réalisés, et ouvrent la voie à l'auto-étalonnage des caméras de système stéréoscopique. Notre étude a montré que les fonctions géométriques de calibrage et l'utilisation d'objectifs télécentriques permettent d'améliorer de nombreux points par rapport aux fonctions générales et l'utilisation d'objectifs standards en conditions de Scheimpflug. Premièrement, des efforts spécifiques sont réalisés sur la modélisation des fonctions géométriques, afin d'atteindre la même précision qu'avec des fonctions générales. Deuxièmement, les objectifs télécentriques permettent d'éliminer les effets de perspectives sur les images acquises, limiter le temps d'installation du système stéréoscopique ainsi que celui du temps de calcul des vecteurs vitesses 3D. Cependant, ils ont l'inconvénient d'être limités en taille de champs. 2 campagnes d'essais avec 2 systèmes stéréoscopiques différents ont permis de mesurer les vitesses 3D au sein d'écoulements de jet axisymétrique turbulent.

Le but de ce travail de thèse est d'évaluer la conformité d'objets 3D manufacturés en tenant compte des tolérances géométriques et des incertitudes liées à différentes sources d'erreur. La reconstruction 3D est réalisée à partir d'un capteur stéréoscopique. La qualité de la reconstruction 3D peut être affectée de manière significative par les propriétés d'illumination. Par conséquent, la détermination de paramètres favorables d'illumination est un problème crucial que nous tentons de résoudre en optimisant le placement des sources d'illumination. La quantification des erreurs 3D de mesure fait aussi l'objet de cette thèse. L'estimation des erreurs 3D nous permet d'évaluer la qualité de reconstruction 3D et par conséquent d'augmenter les performances de notre système de mesure 3D. Un système d'évaluation dimensionnelle a été développé dans notre laboratoire. Ce système est composé de deux modules : le premier utilise les graphes de situations qui permettent l'automatisation et la gestion des différentes procédures de la reconstruction 3D. Le deuxième module, appelé HTP (Hierarchical Task Plan) se charge du contrôle de la séquence d'acquisitions ainsi que de la reconstruction 3D complète de l'objet et de son évaluation dimensionnelle. Tous les algorithmes développés ont été validés et intégrés dans ce système entièrement opérationnel, y compris un mécanisme de replanification dynamique permettant de s'adapter automatiquement aux conditions réelles d'acquisition.

Book excerpt: Les travaux réalisés dans cette thèse s'inscrivent dans le cadre du développement de techniques de mesure optiques pour la mécanique des fluides visant la reconstruction de volumes de particules 3D pour ensuite en déduire leurs déplacements. Cette technique de mesure volumique appelée encore Tomo-PIV est apparue en 2006 et a fait l'objet d'une multitude de travaux ayant pour objectif l'amélioration de la reconstruction qui représente l'une des principales étapes de cette technique de mesure. Les méthodes proposées en littérature ne prennent pas forcément en compte la forme particulière des objets à reconstruire et ne sont pas suffisamment robustes pour faire face au bruit présent dans les images. Pour pallier à ce déficit, nous avons proposé une méthode de reconstruction tomographique, appelée (IOD-PVRMPP), qui se base sur les processus ponctuels marqués. Notre méthode permet de résoudre le problème de manière parcimonieuse. Elle facilite l'introduction de l'information à priori et résout les problèmes de mémoire liés aux approches dites "basées voxels". La reconstruction d'un ensemble de particules 3D est obtenue en minimisant une fonction d'énergie ce qui définit le processus ponctuel marqué. A cet effet, nous utilisons un algorithme de recuit simulé basé sur les méthodes de Monte-Carlo par Chaines de Markov à Saut Réversible (RJMCMC). Afin d'accélérer la convergence du recuit simulé, nous avons développé une méthode d'initialisation permettant de fournir une distribution initiale de particules 3D base sur la détection des particules 2D localisées dans les images de projections. Enfin cette méthode est appliquée à des écoulements fluides soit simulé, soit issu d'une expérience dans un canal turbulent à surface libre. L'analyse des résultats et la comparaison de cette méthode avec les méthodes classiques montrent tout l'intérêt de ces approches parcimonieuses.

Book excerpt: De nombreux domaines concernant le comportement mécanique des matériaux posent le problème de la mesure des déplacements ou des déformations.Pour ce type de mesure, les méthodes optiques se sont largement imposées en raison de leur caractère non intrusif, de leur grande résolution spatiale, de leur sensibilité élevée, de l'importance du champ examiné à tout instant et des progrès de l'informatique qui permet le traitement automatique d'un grand volume d'information. Dans ce contexte, nous avons développé un système de mesure de formes 3D ou de champs de déplacements 3D par stéréovision (en particulier par stéréo-corrélation). Cette technique permet : (1) la mesure de la forme 3D d'un objet à partir d'une simple paire d'images stéréoscopiques de l'objet, (2) la mesure de champs de déplacement 3D à partir d'au moins 2paires d'images correspondant à différents instants de déformation de l'objet (en général analyse d'une séquence de paires d'images acquises en cours de déformation).Les points développés dans la thèse sont : le calibrage fort d'une améra ou d'un capteur de vision stéréoscopique, la reconstruction 3D par stéréovision (en particluier par stéréo-corrélation), la mesure de champs de déplacements 3D à partir du couplage de la stéréo-corrélation et du suivi de pixels dans une séquence d'images par corrélation. Compte tenu de la finalité métrologique de ces travaux, nous accordons une attention toute particluière à la précision des méthodes mises en oeuvre (qualité du calibrage, qualité de la mise en correspondance des images, corrélation subpixel...).Ces travaux sont appliqués à l'emboutissage de tôles minces (mesure de formes 3D d'emboutis et mesure de champs de déformations à la surface d'emboutis 3D), à la mise en forme de polymères (mesure de champs de déplamcents 3D sur des membranes en élastomère soufflées), et à l'étude du comportement mécanique de bétons réfractaires renforcés de fibres métalliques (mesure de champs de déplacement 3D lors d'essais de traction).
