Book excerpt: "This Staff Group Trainer (SGT) project was a research and development effort sponsored by the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences in coordination with the Force XXI Training Program. As a follow-on effort to the previous SGT project, the goal was to refine a brigade-level staff training program to more effectively and efficiently coordinate the activities within and between the individual staff sections in the brigade command post. The program was designed to deliver training to newly formed, inexperienced staffs conducting the staff functions that support the military decision-making process within the execution phase of the brigade area defense mission. Program design and development were based upon lessons learned from the previous SGT effort, structured design methodology, instructional systems design techniques, adult learning principles, as well as team and mental model research. The refined training program further demonstrated the capability of structured, computer-driven, collective staff training. It advanced the techniques for development of structured staff training and integration of technology into the training process. The program incorporated innovative features including automated performance measures and structured feedback. This report provides details on the SGT background, design concept, technology development process, training support package development process, formative evaluation techniques, lessons learned, and conclusions."--Stinet.

Book excerpt: Architecture/Interior Design An in-depth look at the most innovative aged care facilities today With the world's population aging at a rapid pace, there is a growing need for new ways to provide residential care for older people. Design for Aging explores some of the most successful examples of elderly housing today, focusing on integrating architectural considerations within an unwavering people-driven approach. Written by an international team of experts in aged care design, the book brings together twenty-six case studies from around the world, including Australia, Denmark, England, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United States. The authors describe how each scheme has succeeded in addressing the needs of its residents regardless of wide variations in design, geography, cultural factors, medical needs, capital cost, and other factors. Clear, well-documented information for each facility includes: Building descriptions and project data, and how the overall design fits within a geographical location The type of community, including number of residents, ethnicity, and specific conditions such as dementia How to apply universal design principles in different political, social, and regulatory contexts How to create a sense of belonging and well-being for residents while building strong connections with the community at large What makes a facility able to attract and retain high-quality caregivers Environmental sustainability issues, plus indoor and outdoor spaces Architects and interior designers as well as facility owners and caregivers will find Design for Aging an inspiring and practical guide on how to navigate the many factors involved in creating good designs for aged care environments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the latest empirical data on the three forms of resilience: informality, solidarities and unpaid care-work. It uncovers and quantifies these three forms of resilience that are generally invisible or ill recognised, whereas these play a major role in the livelihoods of poor and vulnerable populations. The book shows how the slow but constant unveiling of these forms over the past four decades has gradually changed our vision of progress and development and is impacting the norms and concepts that shape our vision of the economy and society. The book also emphasizes the role of informal economy through explaining the origins of the concept, its definitions and the methods of data collection and measurement. As such the book will be of interest to students, researchers and policy makers in population studies, economics, and international development.

Creating sales teams that stay, sell, and succeed is a lesson in successful sales leadership that is packed with case studies, scripts, planning tools, and resources that will be invaluable resources to sales managers both new and experienced." —Corey Rewis, Learning & Development Executive, Fortune Top 100 Most Profitable Company, Fortune 100 Best Place to Work® Company "Management is dead. Ask any professional or salesperson if they want to be managed, and they'll tell you, 'I'm good.' Professionals want to grow and develop. They want someone to work with them on an individual basis to help them identify their gaps and build a plan to sharpen skills and close those gaps. That's what Steve Johnson is an expert at and what this book will help managers do at a high level. Managers can use this book to evolve their skills and migrate from being managers to becoming coaches. The 'coaching gap' is the biggest opportunity for businesses today. If managers have not yet developed coaching skills, this book will have an enormous return for those that buy it, read it, and put it to use. Our team can attest to this from firsthand experience." —David Patchen, Senior Vice President, Education and Practice Management, Raymond James Private Client Group "I loved this book as it covered all the sales processes and coaching strategies that helped us drive strong, double-digit growth over the last ten years. A must-read for sales leaders!" —Tom Chelew, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Fleet Management, Enterprise Rent-A-Car "Having implemented the sales coaching techniques described in Next Level Sales Coaching over the last decade and a half at several different companies, I've consistently seen immediate and sustained improvement on key performance metrics in both customer satisfaction and overall conversions. The 'secret sauce' is in the defined coaching processes." —Michael Hatt, Principle Program Manager, Go Learning Development Team, Amazon "Next Level Sales Coaching provides comprehensive guidance for developing and executing core sales management activities that drive predictable and profitable sales. This is a must-read and an excellent reference for those who lead—or aspire to lead—sales teams." —Dario F. Priolo, Former Executive Vice President, Miller Heiman Group
