Book Synopsis Urban Design: Method and Technique by : Rafael Cuesta
Download or read book Urban Design: Method and Technique written by Rafael Cuesta and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2007-07-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with a wide range of techniques used in the urban design process. It is invaluable for architecture, planning, landscape and surveying students and will also help professionals in the day to day practice. A method of urban design is developed which has sustainability and environmental protection at the centre of its philosophy. Previously, literature regarding the urban design method has been almost totally neglected; this book introduces the topic to the reader. A number of techniques are illustrated by example or case study. Where techniques are discussed they are located within the structure of the design process. The book develops a logical framework for a process, which includes problem definition, survey, analysis, concept generation, evaluation and implementation. It is this framework which is presented here as a discourse towards the development of an urban design method. This book is a practical guide, one that the authors themselves would have found useful as students or in the early years of their professional careers. It is organized so that each chapter provides guidance which hitherto, students and practitioners in this field have had to discover for themselves, often with some difficulty, since methods and techniques for urban design is a broad topic thinly spread in published form.

Download or read book Taking Land written by Tsuyoshi Kotaka and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2002-01-31 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Asia-Pacific region with its rapid urbanization has generated an immediate need for both land use control and compulsory purchase by national and local governments. This book takes a comparative look at land use laws in ten Asia-Pacific countries (Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand) as well as in the United States. A land use scholar from each country describes and analyzes compulsory land acquisition and the means through which property owners can seek compensation when government regulations or policies become so burdensome that they approach the effect of compulsory purchase. The book's major themes are land use control and eminent domain (compulsory purchase). Contributors examine land use control by focusing on land ownership, statutory framework, land use plans and planning, zoning, building regulations, courts and common law, and regulatory taking among the eleven countries. Sections on eminent domain cover the right of government to take or reclaim private property. General topics discussed include the source of authority (often a country's constitution), the public purpose and the extent of power, compensation, due process, the importance of plans, the effect of a "colonial" legal system, and the accommodation of indigenous peoples' land rights. With the publication of this volume, legal scholars and practicing land use lawyers will be able to analyze and compare for the first time the individual legal approaches of developed and developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
