The Frame Oriented eXpandable Integrated circuit Encoder-2007 (FOXIE-07) was developed to resolve crosstalk, timing, and thermal issues in the original FOXIE-03 encoder prototype. A pre-modulation low-pass filter was implemented between the encoder and the FM transmitter to minimize undesired sidebands from the transmitted signal. Complete testing of the FOXIE-07 encoder and pre-modulation filter was performed to certify them as flight-ready components for the SRP5 payload launch from Poker Flat Research Range in 2009"--Leaf iii.

Currently, the capacity of the payload compartment in the upper stage of the Super Loki system is very limited. A redesign of the upper stage will allow larger and more versatile payloads to be carried, assuming the appropriate design parameters are met. It has therefore been undertaken to create a design procedure that is comprehensive in scope in order to affect this redesign.

These improvements consisted of heavier payloads carried to higher altitudes, with more internal payload volumes for instrumentation and the recovery system. Experience with the Nike-Apache water-impact recovery system showed that if recovery is required, adequate volume and thermal protection must be included in the initial design of the payload. The original requirement for the recovery system was to retrieve from the sea 9-inch-diameter payloads weighing 150 pounds in air (90 pounds in water) after attaining an apogee of 1,000,000 [sic] feet. The payloads were to be floated for at least 24 hours and have location equipment included as part of the recovery system. The 9-inch-diameter Payload Recovery System was designed and developed to meet these criteria. This system and its evolution into the Universal Recovery System are described in this paper.

(g) Fabricate and test a microprocessor-based sounding rocket experiment controller. (h) Fabricate and test one set of ground support equipment. (i) Integrate at contractor's facility the above sensor systems with a rocket payload structure and instrumentation provided by the government.
