Book Synopsis The Tracer Gas Method of Determining the Charging Efficiency of Two-stroke-cycle Diesel Engines by : P. H. Schweitzer
Download or read book The Tracer Gas Method of Determining the Charging Efficiency of Two-stroke-cycle Diesel Engines written by P. H. Schweitzer and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A convenient method has been developed for determining the scavenging efficiency or the charging efficiency of two-stroke-cycle engines. The method consists of introducing a suitable tracer gas into the inlet air of the running engine and measuring chemically its concentration both in the inlet and exhaust gas. Monomethylamine CH3NH2 was found suitable for the purpose as it burns almost completely during combustion, whereas the "short-circuited" portion does not burn at all and can be determined quantitatively in the exhaust. The method was tested both on four-stroke and on two-stroke engines and is considered accurate within 1 percent.

Book Synopsis Internal Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice, second edition, revised, Volume 1 by : Charles Fayette Taylor
Download or read book Internal Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice, second edition, revised, Volume 1 written by Charles Fayette Taylor and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1985-03-19 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition of Taylor's classic work on the internal-combustion engine incorporates changes and additions in engine design and control that have been brought on by the world petroleum crisis, the subsequent emphasis on fuel economy, and the legal restraints on air pollution. The fundamentals and the topical organization, however, remain the same. The analytic rather than merely descriptive treatment of actual engine cycles, the exhaustive studies of air capacity, heat flow, friction, and the effects of cylinder size, and the emphasis on application have been preserved. These are the basic qualities that have made Taylor's work indispensable to more than one generation of engineers and designers of internal-combustion engines, as well as to teachers and graduate students in the fields of power, internal-combustion engineering, and general machine design.
