Book Synopsis Supercritical Water by : Yizhak Marcus
Download or read book Supercritical Water written by Yizhak Marcus and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-05-15 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the many new and emerging applications of supercritical water as a green solvent Drawing from thousands of original research articles, this book reviews and summarizes what is currently known about the properties and uses of supercritical water. In particular, it focuses on new and emerging applications of supercritical water as a green solvent, including the catalytic conversion of biomass into fuels and the oxidation of hazardous materials. Supercritical Water begins with an introduction that defines supercritical fluids in general. It then defines supercritical water in particular, using the saturation curve to illustrate its relationship to regular water. Following this introduction, the book: Describes the bulk macroscopic properties of supercritical water, using equations of state to explain temperature-pressure-density relationships Examines supercritical water's molecular properties, setting forth the latest experimental data as well as computer simulations that shed new light on structure and dynamics Explores the solubilities of gases, organic substances, salts, and ions in supercritical water in terms of the relevant phase equilibria Sets forth the practical uses of supercritical water at both small scales and full industrial scales Throughout the book, the author uses tables for at-a-glance reviews of key information. Summaries at the end of each chapter reinforce core principles, and references to original research and reviews serve as a gateway and guide to the extensive literature in the field. Supercritical Water is written for students and professionals in physical chemistry, chemistry of water, chemical engineering, and organic chemistry, interested in exploring the applications and properties of supercritical water.

Book Synopsis Status of Research and Technology Development for Supercritical Water Cooled Reactors by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Status of Research and Technology Development for Supercritical Water Cooled Reactors written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2019-05-22 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is considerable interest in both developing and developed countries in the design of innovative water cooled reactors (WCRs) and, owing to the higher thermal efficiency and significant system simplifications, supercritical water cooled reactors (SWCRs). Compared to conventional WCRs the SCWR concept requires extensive, comprehensive research and development (R&D). Fundamental research in understanding important phenomena has been completed successfully in providing information required for the next step of development. Currently, a few concepts have been assessed as being technical feasible, and several other concepts are under development. These concepts are described in this publication, together with detailed analysis of remaining gaps requiring future R&D.

Download or read book Applications of Radiation Chemistry in the Fields of Industry, Biotechnology and Environment written by Margherita Venturi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-06 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Topics in Current Chemistry Collections presents critical reviews from the journal Topics in Current Chemistry organized in topical volumes. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field.

Book Synopsis Physical and Chemical Properties of Water by : Donald T. Hawkins
Download or read book Physical and Chemical Properties of Water written by Donald T. Hawkins and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976-04 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water is basic to terrestrial life, and its distribution has controlled the growth and spread of human civilization. The importance of water to modern industrial processes, urban planning, and agricultural development is hard to overestimate. With these compelling motivations, it is natural that more tech nical and scientific study should have been devoted to this one substance than to any other. Research on water and its solutions has exhibited a marked expansion during the last decade. In sig nificant degree, this has resulted from the availability of new experimental tools and techniques, and of dramatic advances in computing science. This combination, in skilled hands, promises eventually to explain the unusual properties of water and aqueous solutions in unequivocal molecular terms. like wise, one now has reasonable hope that the active role that water plays in biochemical processes will be revealed and explained quantitatively at the molecular level. Owing to the widespread scholarly interest in aqueous science, it is clear that guides to the overwhelm ing literature on the subject are valuable. They serve ideally to indicate what is known and what is not, which areas harbor controversies, and what types of research attacks seem most fruitful (in answering more questions than they raise!). Whatever time and resources need to be spent in preparing compre hensive bibliographies should be quickly offset in the total scientific community by the efficiencies generated.
