Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, Hungary’s non-financial corporations were confronted with multiple shocks, ranging from the pandemic and rising geopolitical tensions to the historic tightening of domestic monetary policy. Employing machine learning techniques, this paper examines the determinants of Hungarian listed firms’ credit risk evolution over this period. Our analysis shows that both firm-specific and macroeconomic factors played a role in explaining the observed rise in firms’ default probability at onset of the pandemic, although Hungarian corporates proved broadly resilient, with risk indicators quickly improving a year after. Firms’ credit risk rose again in 2022, however, as both long-term interest rates and sovereign risk premia sharply increased, despite continued improvements in firms’ financial ratios. This development merits continued monitoring, particularly since a significant portion of corporate loans are set to mature within the next few years and could be repriced at higher interest rates.

Book excerpt: This 2011 Article IV Consultation highlights that economic growth in Hungary is slowing and market perception of recent policy measures has been negative. The eurozone crisis is weighing on Hungary’s external demand. Fiscal and monetary policies are facing constraints, given financial market pressures and inflationary pressures. Executive Directors have noted that the rebound from the crisis has been modest and vulnerabilities remain high. Directors have therefore underscored the need for a well-crafted policy mix that restores confidence in economic governance, anchors the ongoing adjustment, and strengthens economic institutions.

Book Synopsis The Sector Strategist by : Timothy J. McIntosh
Download or read book The Sector Strategist written by Timothy J. McIntosh and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-04-03 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using Asset Allocation to Reduce Risk and Boost Investing Returns Presenting a revolutionary new investment philosophy that redefines how we view sector investing, The Sector Strategist challenges long held ideas about how this unique area of finance operates. Misconceptions, such as the belief that international stocks provide diversification, are preventing investors from making the most of the opportunities for financial growth that sectors provide, and the book presents practical, applicable evidence that a better, more profitable option is available. Additionally, the book hopes to give readers an opportunity to improve returns and protect retirement assets by providing a wide range of techniques and tools designed to optimize wealth that the author has developed over the last decade. Designed to help investors avoid the often inaccurate assumptions made by "experts" which promote typical asset allocation Written by Timothy McIntosh, investment expert and founder of SIPCO/Strategic Investment Partners, whose firm's stock portfolio has earned five-star returns from Morningstar annually since 2003 Contains easy-to-apply tools for wealth protection and growth that have been proven successful during the market fluctuations of 2002 and 2008 The history and opportunities afforded by sectors have been written about at length, but no book has broken with tradition so radically, and with such success, as The Sector Strategist.
