Book excerpt: Sowell Swift miraculously recovered from an electro-chemical accident, and upon regaining consciousness, he discovered that his mind function and his muscular capabilities had become extraordinarily accurate and quick. Utilizing his newly-developed powers, he becomes an outstanding scholar, musician, and athlete throughout his remaining three years of high school. Not long after graduating, Sowell entered professional baseball and was soon playing for a leading New York team. "So Swift - Vol. I" takes the readers with Sowell through his first year in professional baseball, letting them vicariously experience his personal life and emotional involvements, as well. "So Swift - Vol. II" parallels the Volume I experiences, expanding and refining them as Sowell begins to learn about his divine assignments, (called his "mission.") The author is hopeful that the reader will find Sowell to be a humorous and enjoyable young man, one who would be chosen to be a personal friend. Chesley Austin, in spite of having spent thirty-three years in public school teaching, has a wide variety of life experiences in his background. He has been a steelworker, a groundsman, a bakery worker, a warehouseman, a security agent, a painter, a station attendant, a school bus driver, a cannery worker, a linguist, an insurance training graduate, a curriculum coordinator, a refrigeration repair technician, a farm boy, a truck driver, a regional manager in a national corporation, a surveying assistant, an Air Force instructor, a salesman, an amateur boxer, and an amateur thespian, (the final two listed, being unpaid.) His primary participation interests are languages and vocal music. If you hadn't already guessed, Mr. Austin would tell you that he didn't have time to write, until after he retired.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Opening Proverb There is an African proverb that says, "A cockroach knows how to sing and dance, but it is the hen that prevents it from performing its art during the day." What does this mean? Well, in many African villages it is not uncommon to see a hungry hen running around pecking at the ground for its meal of cockroaches scurrying about. But, without the hindrance of its enemy, the hen, the cockroach would be free to demonstrate all that its skilled to do. My question is if cockroaches can dance in the face of danger, why cant you? What hen, giant, king or obstacle is holding you from being all that youre created for? Why did you stop using your God given talents and gifts in the service of his kingdom? Who has turned you against yourself, emasculated you and frozen your potentials? Now is the time to declare to that mountain to be removed and be cast into the sea (Matt 17:20); To that tumultuous and raging situation, peace be still (Mark 4:39) to that giant " I am well able to overcome you (Numbers 13:30); to that king Nebuchadnezzar terrorizing your life "My God is able to deliver me (Daniel 3:17) and to that circumstance, like Jesus "I will rise again (Matt 27:63) For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD (PSALM 27:5- 6). If cockroaches can dance in the face of its enemy, I can too. In the Bible gifts and talents are not just given to some but to all. We are called to use those gifts in service of others. They are instruments and tools that help build the kingdom of God on earth. According to Bishop T D Jakes, senior pastor of the Potters House, the gift, talent, and abilities God gave you is your key to success. They were not given to you to be put on display, to be wasted, to be hidden or denied out of a false sense of religious humility but, to be poured out, to be used and invested. Apostle Paul in the book of Romans succinctly admonishes us in these words, "Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness" (Roman 12:6-8 New King James Version). Do not forget that God does not give equal gifts or talents but equal opportunity for investment; we dont have equal gifts and talents but the same twenty-four hours in a day to utilize it, and there is the enemy, like the hen, walking about, seeking to devour those who would dare use their gift. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8, NKJV) In this proverb, if singing and dancing represent the gifts that are given by God to every person, then we all can "sing and dance" Hence the Bible declared that He gave gifts to all men. To my greatest chagrin, there doesnt seem to be a whole lot of singing and dancing going on! Why? What hen do you think is trying to devour you and your gift? Each chapter in this book is dedicated to a "hen" that may be keeping you from singing and dancing, performing your art, or becoming all that God created you to be. Well call them "hen-drances." Even before the foundation of the earth God wrote history, and it is known as "His-story" because only God, His son and His Spirit can give an accurate account and story of my life. In His-story, He included you, me, and every other person throughout all of time. Do you see why everyone else that attempts to tell your story becomes

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the following pages, I present a heartfelt tribute to what many call vocation or purpose. Join me in the journey of a young man, Kadmiel, as he ventures through various trades in search of his true calling, reflecting the experiences shared by millions worldwide, as Vicki Robin eloquently conveyed in her book, "The Stock Market or Life." Some find their passion early on and follow a steady path, while others, like Kadmiel, zigzag through a dozen jobs, always moving forward. However, this work serves a dual purpose. Beyond just Kadmiel's tale, it aims to awaken us from the slumber of life's vicious cycle. Most of us find ourselves trapped in the belief that work solely exists to pay the bills, inadvertently forgetting the essential question: What about our happiness? Vicki Robin's words beautifully encapsulate this scenario - if the daily grind truly brought us joy and a sense of fulfillment, the trials and inconveniences would be a minor price to pay. But increasingly, it's evident that money doesn't guarantee the happiness we seek beyond a certain level of comfort. If this resonates with you in any way, this book is meant for you. It delves into the quest for meaning and happiness that many of us find ourselves on. Choosing to tell this story rather than penning a philosophical treatise was inspired by the advice of my wife, Vanessa, and her insight was profound. Stories have a unique power to captivate our minds, as studies by Paul Smith have revealed. Our minds are indeed wired to process stories, making them easier to remember and appealing to readers of all ages, races, and genders. It's this realization that deeply touched me. Throughout my life, the teachings of great authors such as Paulo Coelho, George Clason, Og Mandino, and Robin Sharma have left lasting imprints. They shared their wisdom through storytelling, and it is in that tradition that I present this tale. My earnest desire is for this story to ignite the Apprentice within you, encouraging your own pursuit of purpose and fulfillment. To conclude, I leave you with Benjamin Franklin's timeless wisdom: "Do you love life? If you love life, do not waste time, for time is the essence of life." And the words of Terry Pratchett remind us that it is in our dreams that we truly find freedom, for the rest of the time, we often find ourselves seeking wages. Thank you for embarking on this journey with me. Felipe Chavarro Polania

Book excerpt: Treat yourself to a delightful Regency romance with a fairy-tale twist "much in the manner of Mary Balogh." (Kirkus) Duncan Wentworth once tried his hand at rescuing a damsel in distress long ago, and he's vowed he'll never make that mistake again. Yet when he comes across a stranger in the poacher-infested woods of his estate, decency compels him to offer the lady aid. Matilda is whip-smart, she can read Duncan's horrible penmanship, and when she wears his reading glasses all Duncan can think about is naughty Latin poetry. Widowed duchess Matilda Wakefield can't entrust her secrets to Duncan without embroiling him in the problems that sent her fleeing from London, but neither can she ignore a man who's honorable, a brilliant chess player, and maddeningly kissable. She needs to stay one step ahead of the enemies pursuing her, and falling into Duncan's arms is a distraction she can't afford-or they'll both pay the price.
