Spaninks and published by Bernan Press(PA). This book was released on 1979 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A design method is proposed for countercurrent mass transfer cascades with crossflow stages, and unsteady operated fixed beds in a countercurrent arrangement. The separation performance of these cascades is calculated from mathematical models and compared with a purely countercurrent extractor. The models are based on simple equations describing mass transfer in a single stage fixed bed. The results are presented as concise correlations between the number of true and exterior apparent transfer units.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Advances in Liquid-liquid Extraction focuses on the applications of liquid extraction. The selection first discusses solvent extraction. Concerns include organic and inorganic separations, mass transfer process, solvent extraction economics, and coalescence in liquid-liquid systems. The book focuses on the chemistry of solvent extraction. Extraction by acidic organophosphorus compounds; extraction by phosphorus-bonded oxygen-donor solvents; extraction by high-molecular weight amines; and synergistic extraction are elaborated. The book also focuses on industrial organic processes; industrial contacting equipment; response characteristics and control of extraction processes; and calculation of contactors with longitudinal mixing. The selection presents the study of longitudinal mixing in liquid-liquid contactors. Rotating disc contactors, packed columns, vibrating plate extractors, and Oldshue-Rushton columns are described. The text also discusses heat transfer by direct liquid-liquid contact and the coalescence of liquid droplets and liquid dispersion. The selection is a vital source of data for readers interested in liquid extraction.

Thornton and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents an up-to-date account of some of the fundamental aspects of liquid-liquid extraction technology together with an account of extraction processes in a number of important industries. The work is divided into two parts. Volume 1 is concerned with the thermodynamics of phase equilibria; mass transfer in liquid-liquid systems, including the complicating role of interfacial turbulence; behavior of liquid-liquid dispersions; and the selection and design of countercurrent contactors for particular applications. Volume 2 gives an account of the process chemistry and associated extraction operations in a number of industries of current interest. New extraction techniques have been developed in recent years for specific applications and these are illustrated with reference to the hydrometallurgical, nuclear, pharmaceutical and food industries.

Book excerpt: The Graesser liquid-liquid extractor is an item of increasing industrial importance but for which little -fundamental design data has been published, although some previous information on the extent of axial mixing and backmixing in the aaueous phase is available. Axial mixing in liquid-liquid extraction can have a deleterious effect on the overall mass transfer performance by reducing the effective concentration driving force. As such it is an important parameter that should be taken into account in the realistic design of extraction devices. The aim of this study was to investigate the axial mixing for the second liquid phase in the Graesser contactor. This is necessary since: (i) varying physical properties of the liquid phases can have, different effects on the longitudinal mixing and (ii) in the Graesser extractor the two phases are each dispersed in the other, so that at any instant both phases behave as continuous and dispersed liquids, which is quite unlike the behaviour of other contactors.........
