Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air quality and air pollution control are tasks of international concern as, for one, air pollutants do not refrain from crossing borders and, for another, industrial plants and motor vehicles which emit air pollutants are in widespread use today. In a number of the world's expanding cities smog situations are a frequent occurrence due to the number and emission-intensity of air pollution sources. Polluted air causes annoy ances and can, when it occurs in high concentrations in these cities, constitute a seri ous health hazard. How important clean air is to life becomes apparent when consid ering the fact that humans can do without food for up to 40 days, without air, how ever, only a few minutes. The first step towards improving the air quality situation is the awareness that a sound environment is as much to be aspired for as the development of new tech nologies improving the standard of living. Technical progress should be judged es pecially by how environmentally benign, clean and noiseless its products are. Of these elements, clean air is of special concern to me. I hope that this book will awaken more interest in this matter and that it will lead to new impulses. Due to the increasing complexity of today's machinery and industrial processes science and technology can no longer do without highly specialized design engineers and opera tors. Environmental processes, however, are highly interdependent and interlinked.
Book Synopsis Air Pollution Control by : C. David Cooper
Download or read book Air Pollution Control written by C. David Cooper and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2010-08-25 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 25-year tradition of excellence is extended in the Fourth Edition of this highly regarded text. In clear, authoritative language, the authors discuss the philosophy and procedures for the design of air pollution control systems. Their objective is twofold: to present detailed information on air pollution and its control, and to provide formal design training for engineering students. New to this edition is a comprehensive chapter on carbon dioxide control, perhaps the most critical emerging issue in the field. Emphasis is on methods to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and the technologies for carbon capture and sequestration. An expanded discussion of control technologies for coal-fired power plants includes details on the capture of NOx and mercury emissions. All chapters have been revised to reflect the most recent information on U.S. air quality trends and standards. Moreover, where available, equations for equipment cost estimation have been updated to the present time. Abundant illustrations clarify the concepts presented, while numerous examples and end-of-chapter problems reinforce the design principles and provide opportunities for students to enhance their problem-solving skills.
Book Synopsis Air Quality Monitoring and Control Strategy by : S.P Singal
Download or read book Air Quality Monitoring and Control Strategy written by S.P Singal and published by ALPHA SCIENCE INTERNATIONAL LIMITED. This book was released on 2012-01-24 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AIR QUALITY MONITORING AND CONTROL STRATEGY essentially deals with air quality and underlines a strategy to improve it. To this effect this volume describes briefly the problem of air pollution, impact of various pollutants present in the indoor/outdoor atmosphere on health, the various monitoring techniques/instruments and their practical use, instructions, precautions etc., control instrumentation and environment impact assessment. The answer to questions like the need for air quality monitoring, choice of monitoring location and parameters, averaging time and frequencies etc. has been provided along with the basic statistics required to work out certain statistical figures in air quality. The science of meteorology, an important subject that takes care of dispersion/dilution of air pollutants at a place, has been discussed briefly. A chapter on noise pollution, another vital air toxicant, has also been dealt with to a certain limit. Two case studies have been incorporated to elucidate the importance of EIA and the need to develop a strategy for management of ambient air quality. Revised new standards have also been included.
Book Synopsis Highway Air Quality: Design of air monitoring surveys by : Kenneth E. Noll
Download or read book Highway Air Quality: Design of air monitoring surveys written by Kenneth E. Noll and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Highway engineers have a responsible role in enhancing and protecting the environment. They will have to consider a variety of factors in the environmental impact of any highway project and complete a number of studies prior to writing an impact statement. One of the studies is concerned with the gathering of field data, analysis of such data, and writing of an air quality report. This report provides technical information for those engineers involved in evaluating air quality near highways and overall transportation systems.

Book excerpt: Writing for engineers working in the area of air pollution control systems, Cooper (U. of Central Florida) and Alley (emeritus, Clemson U.) present a textbook describing the philosophy and procedures for systems design. The primary purpose of the text is to aid in formal design training, although general foundational information on air pollution and its control does provide the background for the former. Chapters cover process design, particulate matter, cyclones, electrostatic precipitators, fabric filters, particulate scrubbers, auxiliary equipment, properties of gases and vapors, VOC incinerators, gas adsorption and absorption, biological controls, atmospheric dispersion modeling, and indoor air quality and control. The CD-ROM contains solutions to exercises from the text. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
