This book is intended to be a reference for a rapidly growing GaAs community of researchers and graduate students. It was written over several years and parts of it were used for courses on GaAs devices and integrated circuits and on heterojunction GaAs devices developed and taught at the University of Minnesota. Many people helped me in writing this book. I would like to express my deep gratitude to Professor Lester Eastman of Cornell University, whose ideas and thoughts inspired me and helped to determine the direction of my research work for many years. I also benefited from numerous discussions with his students and associates and from the very atmosphere of the pursuit of excellence which exists in his group. I would like to thank my former and present co-workers and colleagues-Drs. Levinstein and Gelmont of the A. F. Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology, Professor Melvin Shaw of Wayne State University, Dr. Kastalsky of Bell Communi cations, Professor Gary Robinson of Colorado State University, Professor Tony Valois, and Dr. Tim Drummond of Sandia Labs-for their contributions to our joint research and for valuable discussions. My special thanks to Professor Morko.;, for his help, his ideas, and the example set by his pioneering work. Since 1978 I have been working with engineers from Honeywell, Inc.-Drs.

Book Synopsis Compound Semiconductor Integrated Circuits by : Tho T Vu
Download or read book Compound Semiconductor Integrated Circuits written by Tho T Vu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-04-02 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the book version of a special issue of the International Journal of High Speed Electronics and Systems, reviewing recent work in the field of compound semiconductor integrated circuits. There are fourteen invited papers covering a wide range of applications, frequencies and materials. These papers deal with digital, analog, microwave and millimeter-wave technologies, devices and integrated circuits for wireline fiber-optic lightwave transmissions, and wireless radio-frequency microwave and millimeter-wave communications. In each case, the market is young and experiencing rapid growth for both commercial and millitary applications. Many new semiconductor technologies compete for these new markets, leading to an alphabet soup of semiconductor materials described in these papers. The book also includes three papers focused on radiation effects and reliability in III-V semiconductor electronics, which are useful for reference and future directions. Moreover, reliability is covered in several papers separately for certain process technologies.

Book Synopsis RF and Microwave Passive and Active Technologies by : Mike Golio
Download or read book RF and Microwave Passive and Active Technologies written by Mike Golio and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the high frequency world, the passive technologies required to realize RF and microwave functionality present distinctive challenges. SAW filters, dielectric resonators, MEMS, and waveguide do not have counterparts in the low frequency or digital environment. Even when conventional lumped components can be used in high frequency applications, their behavior does not resemble that observed at lower frequencies. RF and Microwave Passive and Active Technologies provides detailed information about a wide range of component technologies used in modern RF and microwave systems. Updated chapters include new material on such technologies as MEMS, device packaging, surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters, bipolar junction and heterojunction transistors, and high mobility electron transistors (HMETs). The book also features a completely rewritten section on wide bandgap transistors.
Book Synopsis Handbook of VLSI Chip Design and Expert Systems by : A. F. Schwarz
Download or read book Handbook of VLSI Chip Design and Expert Systems written by A. F. Schwarz and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of VLSI Chip Design and Expert Systems provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of expert systems, which provides a knowledge-based approach to problem solving. This book discusses the use of expert systems in every possible subtask of VLSI chip design as well as in the interrelations between the subtasks. Organized into nine chapters, this book begins with an overview of design automation, which can be identified as Computer-Aided Design of Circuits and Systems (CADCAS). This text then presents the progress in artificial intelligence, with emphasis on expert systems. Other chapters consider the impact of design automation, which exploits the basic capabilities of computers to perform complex calculations and to handle huge amounts of data with a high speed and accuracy. This book discusses as well the characterization of microprocessors. The final chapter deals with interactive I/O devices. This book is a valuable resource for system design experts, circuit analysts and designers, logic designers, device engineers, technologists, and application-specific designers.
Book Synopsis Integrated Circuits by : Peter Shepherd
Download or read book Integrated Circuits written by Peter Shepherd and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1996-11-11 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated circuits have revolutionised the world of electronics and the associated areas of computing and communication. In past years the tasks of designing, manufacturing and testing these types of circuit were restricted to a few specialist engineers. However, within recent years the proliferation of computer tools and affordable access to IC manufacturing foundries has resulted in a substantial increase in the number of people designing ICs for the first time, both in universities and colleges and in industry. This book introduces the reader to all aspects of IC design, manufacture and testing with a minimum of mathematics, but with relevant examples at each stage. It examines the overall design strategies, the engineering trade-offs and the advantages, disadvantages and optimum applications of each available technology.
