Book Synopsis Traffic Engineering and QoS Optimization of Integrated Voice and Data Networks by : Gerald R. Ash
Download or read book Traffic Engineering and QoS Optimization of Integrated Voice and Data Networks written by Gerald R. Ash and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-11-03 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes, analyzes, and recommends traffic engineering (TE) and quality of service (QoS) optimization methods for integrated voice/data dynamic routing networks. These functions control a network's response to traffic demands and other stimuli, such as link failures or node failures. TE and QoS optimization is concerned with measurement, modeling, characterization, and control of network traffic, and the application of techniques to achieve specific performance objectives. The scope of the analysis and recommendations include dimensioning, call/flow and connection routing, QoS resource management, routing table management, dynamic transport routing, and operational requirements. Case studies are included which provide the reader with a concrete way into the technical details and highlight why and how to use the techniques described in the book. Includes Case Studies of MPLS and GMPLS Network Optimization Presents state-of-the-art traffic engineering and quality of service optimization methods and illustrates the tradeoffs between the various methods discussed Contains practical Case Studies based on large-scale service provider implementations and architecture plans Written by a highly respected and well known active expert in traffic engineering and quality of service

Book Synopsis Design of Reservation Protocols for Multimedia Communication by : Luca Delgrossi
Download or read book Design of Reservation Protocols for Multimedia Communication written by Luca Delgrossi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of multimedia technology is creating a number of new problems in the fields of computer and communication systems. Perhaps the most important of these problems in communication, and certainly the most interesting, is that of designing networks to carry multimedia traffic, including digital audio and video, with acceptable quality. The main challenge in integrating the different services needed by the different types of traffic into the same network (an objective that is made worthwhile by its obvious economic advantages) is to satisfy the performance requirements of continuous media applications, as the quality of audio and video streams at the receiver can be guaranteed only if bounds on delay, delay jitters, bandwidth, and reliability are guaranteed by the network. Since such guarantees cannot be provided by traditional packet-switching technology, a number of researchers and research groups during the last several years have tried to meet the challenge by proposing new protocols or modifications of old ones, to make packet-switching networks capable of delivering audio and video with good quality while carrying all sorts of other traffic. The focus of this book is on HeiTS (the Heidelberg Transport System), and its contributions to integrated services network design. The HeiTS architecture is based on using the Internet Stream Protocol Version 2 (ST-II) at the network layer. The Heidelberg researchers were the first to implement ST-II. The author documents this activity in the book and provides thorough coverage of the improvements made to the protocol. The book also includes coverage of HeiTP as used in error handling, error control, congestion control, and the full specification of ST2+, a new version of ST-II. The ideas and techniques implemented by the Heidelberg group and their coverage in this volume apply to many other approaches to multimedia networking.

Book Synopsis Voice, Video, and Data Network Convergence by : Juanita Ellis
Download or read book Voice, Video, and Data Network Convergence written by Juanita Ellis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-09-11 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covers the latest standards and those being developed in an ever-evolving field Provides insight into the latest technology of video and data over wireless networks and how convergence will be a driving force in this industry Provides an understanding of the true capabilities behind each vendor's solution to allow for informed buying decisions A recent survey of 500 U.S. companies with multiple locations found that 81% are planning to implement IP Telephony on their local area networks (LANs) in 2003, and two-thirds are looking at convergence for their wide area networks (WANs) as well. This includes voice, video and data over hard line and wireless networks. Today, new standards and technologies are being developed to support convergence and voice over IP (VoIP) and Video over IP and wireless. Because convergence covers the voice and data world, it will be critical to understand all of these environments. Voice, Video, and Data Network Convergence provides detailed information on convergence network models, protocol stacks, routing algorithms, gateways and switches required to support these networks. Covers the latest standards and those being developed in an ever-evolving field Provides insight into the latest technology of video and data over wireless networks and how convergence will be a driving force in this industry Provides an understanding of the true capabilities behind each vendor's solution to allow for informed buying decisions
Book Synopsis Integrating Voice and Data Networks by : Scott Keagy
Download or read book Integrating Voice and Data Networks written by Scott Keagy and published by Cisco Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Voice/Data Integration on Cisco Networks is both a conceptual reference and a practical how-to book that bridges the gap between existing telephony networks and the new world of packetized voice over data networks. Technologies are explained in a context that gives the reader a holistic understanding of voice/data integration. Reader can then follow a complete process to design and implement a variety of network scenarios, leveraging the author's experience with real voice/data networks. The audio accompaniment on CD-ROM will be an excellent companion to demonstrate the expected voice quality using different voice/data networking scenarios. This will allow professionals in the field to demonstrate different sound quality levels to customers.
