He died Feb. 18, 1869, at the old homestead town of Hudson, Wis. (7.) GEORGE RUSSELL JONES (The II) (Author of the Jones Genealogy), son of Sterling and Elizabeth Jones, was born Feb. 8th, 1845, at Delphi, Ind. He married Miss Ellen Eldora Savage, Jan. 1st, 1867, at her home in the town of Troy, St. Croix county, Wis. Ellen Savage Jones, his wife, was born June 3, 1850, at Portland, Maine. This was the occasion of a double marriage, a brother and sister from each of the Jones and Savage families also wedding at that time. There were born to George R. and Ellen Savage Jones, his wife, three children, viz: Ira Clifford, Orrin Delos and George Wesley Jones. George Wesley was born Nov. 8th, 1879, at Independence, Kansas, and died June 5th, 1880. After his marriage, George R. Jones for three years endeavored to follow farming, but results from his wounds received in the War 1861-1865 debarred him from such laborious work and in 1872 he moved to Waukesha, Wis. He engaged in the insurance business and kept a boarding house. In 1875, disposing of his boarding house and insurance business, they moved to Independence, Kansas, there he engaged in the land business and improvement of farms. In 1880 he was the Republican candidate for clerk of the Circuit Court of Montgomery county, Kansas. His health failing during the campaign work, he withdrew and returned to Waukesha, Wis., and purchased the Mansion House; in 1882 he sold this hotel, and for a year was local reporter for the St. Paul Daily Globe and later the Chicago Herald. In 1883 he went to North Dakota and took a government claim of 160 acres, and a tree claim of 160 acres, and in 1884 he commuted the government claim. He then took a pre-emption claim of 160 acres, ..
