Die kindliche Identitätsentwicklung verläuft in verschiedenen Phasen und jede Phase verläuft unterschiedlich bei den Kindern. Auch die sprachliche Entwicklung nimmt Einfluss auf die spätere Identität des Kindes. Welchen Einfluss die Mehrsprachigkeit auf die kindliche Identitätsentwicklung hat, soll in der vorliegenden Arbeit beantwortet werden. Zunächst werden in dem folgenden Kapitel einige Begriffserklärungen folgen. In Kapitel 3 geht es um die kindliche Sprachentwicklung. Aufgeteilt wird dieses Kapitel in den Erstspracherwerb, den Zweitspracherwerb, die simultane Mehrsprachigkeit und zuletzt die sukzessive Mehrsprachigkeit. In Kapitel 4 wird die kindliche Identitätsentwicklung aufgegriffen. Dieses Kapitel wird unterteilt in eine Definition und die verschiedenen Phasen der Identitätsentwicklung. Bei diesen Phasen wird sich auf die Entwicklungstheorien von Erik Homburger Erikson und Louis Wilson-Sander beschränkt. Im Anschluss daran, wird noch eine neuere Theorie, nach Robert Kegan thematisiert. In Kapitel 5 geht es schließlich um den Einfluss der Mehrsprachigkeit auf die kindliche Identitätsentwicklung. Das Kapitel wird unterteilt in die Bedeutung der Erstsprache auf die Identitätsentwicklung und die Bedeutung der Zweitsprache auf die Identitätsentwicklung. Abgeschlossen wird das Kapitel mit der Frage, ob die Mehrsprachigkeit eine Bereicherung für die Identitätsentwicklung sein kann. Zum Schluss wird auf die Risiken einer Sprachentwicklungsstörung bei mehrsprachigen Kindern eingegangen. Abgeschlossen wird diese Arbeit mit einem Fazit.

Es wird herausgearbeitet, was die Zusammenführung mehrerer Kulturen in eine Identität für Auswirkungen haben kann. Der Fokus in dieser Arbeit liegt auf der kindlichen Identitätsbildung im Hinblick auf kindliche Mehrsprachigkeit mit dem Schwerpunkt Deutsch als Zweitsprache in Deutschland. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wird im zweiten Kapitel das Verständnis der Begriffe Erstsprache oder Muttersprache, Zweitsprache sowie Mehrsprachigkeit und Identität erläutert. Nach der theoretischen Verortung folgt im dritten Kapitel eine Skizze der kindlichen Sprachentwicklung. Dazu werden zuerst Grundzüge des Erstspracherwerbs erläutert und anschließend wird der kindliche Zweitspracherwerb aufgegriffen. An dieser Stelle wird unterschieden zwischen simultanem und sukzessivem Zweitspracherwerb. Im darauffolgenden Kapitel wird die gegenseitige Bedingung der Sprache und Identität thematisiert. Es wird untersucht, inwiefern die Erst- und Zweitsprache jeweils für die Identitätsentwicklung von Relevanz sind. Im Anschluss daran wird die multilinguale Identität aufgegriffen. In dem Kapitel werden Risiken und Chancen, die die Mehrsprachigkeit in Bezug auf die Identitätsbildung hervorbringen kann, aufgeführt. Es wird untersucht, inwieweit die Mehrsprachigkeit identitätsbedrohend oder -stiftend sein kann. Abschließend folgt die Zusammenfassung der Ergebnisse der Arbeit im Fazit und dadurch wird die der Arbeit zugrundeliegende Fragestellung beantwortet.
