Download or read book The Last Human written by Zack Jordan and published by Del Rey. This book was released on 2020-03-24 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last human in the universe must battle unfathomable alien intelligences—and confront the truth about humanity—in this ambitious, galaxy-spanning debut “A good old-fashioned space opera in a thoroughly fresh package.”—Andy Weir, author of The Martian “Big ideas and believable science amid a roller-coaster ride of aliens, AI, superintelligence, and the future of humanity.”—Dennis E. Taylor, author of We Are Legion Most days, Sarya doesn’t feel like the most terrifying creature in the galaxy. Most days, she’s got other things on her mind. Like hiding her identity among the hundreds of alien species roaming the corridors of Watertower Station. Or making sure her adoptive mother doesn’t casually eviscerate one of their neighbors. Again. And most days, she can almost accept that she’ll never know the truth—that she’ll never know why humanity was deemed too dangerous to exist. Or whether she really is—impossibly—the lone survivor of a species destroyed a millennium ago. That is, until an encounter with a bounty hunter and a miles-long kinetic projectile leaves her life and her perspective shattered. Thrown into the universe at the helm of a stolen ship—with the dubious assistance of a rebellious spacesuit, an android death enthusiast on his sixtieth lifetime, and a ball of fluff with an IQ in the thousands—Sarya begins to uncover an impossible truth. What if humanity’s death and her own existence are simply two moves in a demented cosmic game, one played out by vast alien intellects? Stranger still, what if these mad gods are offering Sarya a seat at their table—and a second chance for humanity? The Last Human is a sneakily brilliant, gleefully oddball space-opera debut—a masterful play on perspective, intelligence, and free will, wrapped in a rollicking journey through a strange and crowded galaxy.

As one element of this effort, SSA has proposed a redesigned disability determination process. The agency has undertaken a multi-year research effort to develop and test the feasibility, validity, reliability, and practicality of the redesigned disability determination process before making any decision about implementing it nationally. One of the committee's tasks is to examine SSA's research into existing and other developing functional assessment instruments for the redesign efforts and to provide advice for adopting or developing instruments for the redesigned decision process and the DES.

Download or read book Homosexuality written by Emmanuel M. Ekwo and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have heard many arguments, questions and comments in reference to homosexuality, and there is now a burden on my heart to express plainly how offensive this is in the sight of God. I will try to merge all these arguments, questions and comments together and balance them by the Word of God. I pray you read this with an open heart and mind. Well, I am going to point out a few things that may come as a shock to you. You must approach this subject with an open mind, and form your own conclusions, since mind control is about telling people what to do and how to think, and I am certainly not trying to control you or your life. There are some aspects of reality that people nowadays are not taught, due to an overwhelming feeling of fear created by those very aspects of reality. There are mass movements of gays and lesbians going on around the world, even in largely homophobic enclaves such as in many African societies. All of these are not an accident folks; it is a careful orchestration by the one who seeks Man's destruction. I certainly see a prophetic significance in the recent homosexual upsurge. The modern homosexual upsweep is one phase of a declining trend in morals. When the disciples asked our Lord, "What shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the consummation of the age?" He told them that "iniquity shall abound" (Matthew 24:3, 12). There is today permissiveness and promiscuity in sexual behavior unprecedented in the history of America and of the world. There is little restraint upon the widespread of materials containing pictures and writings depicting erotic behavior intended to cause sexual excitement. This would be included in our Lord's prophecy about abounding iniquity.
Download or read book Sometimes I Lie written by Alice Feeney and published by Flatiron Books. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me: 1. I’m in a coma. 2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore. 3. Sometimes I lie. Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can’t move. She can’t speak. She can’t open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn’t remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from twenty years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

But her business is failing, threatening her daughter's future. What's a lady to do? Why, audition for a Jane Austen-inspired TV show set in England, of course. What Chloe thinks is a documentary turns out to be a reality dating show set in 1812. Eight women are competing to snare Mr. Wrightman, the heir to a gorgeous estate, along with a $100,000 prize. So Chloe tosses her bonnet into the ring, hoping to transform from stressed-out Midwest mom to genteel American heiress and win the money. With no cell phones, indoor plumbing, or deodorant to be found, she must tighten her corset and flash some ankle to beat out women younger, more cutthroat, and less clumsy than herself. But the witty and dashing Mr. Wrightman proves to be a prize worth winning, even if it means the gloves are off...
