Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal Operation of Integrated Energy Systems Under Uncertainties: Distributionally Robust and Stochastic Models discusses new solutions to the rapidly emerging concerns surrounding energy usage and environmental deterioration. Integrated energy systems (IESs) are acknowledged to be a promising approach to increasing the efficiency of energy utilization by exploiting complementary (alternative) energy sources and storages. IESs show favorable performance for improving the penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) and accelerating low-carbon transition. However, as more renewables penetrate the energy system, their highly uncertain characteristics challenge the system, with significant impacts on safety and economic issues. To this end, this book provides systematic methods to address the aggravating uncertainties in IESs from two aspects: distributionally robust optimization and online operation. - Presents energy scheduling, considering power, gas, and carbon markets concurrently based on distributionally robust optimization methods - Helps readers design day-ahead scheduling schemes, considering both decision-dependent uncertainties and decision-independent uncertainties for IES - Covers online scheduling and energy auctions by stochastic optimization methods - Includes analytic results given to measure the performance gap between real performance and ideal performance

Book Synopsis Smart Robust Operation and Trading of Integrated Energy Systems with Low Pollution Goals by : Kaiping Qu
Download or read book Smart Robust Operation and Trading of Integrated Energy Systems with Low Pollution Goals written by Kaiping Qu and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-09-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To mitigate two major environmental concerns of global warming and air pollution, renewable energies with uncertainty are increasingly deployed in power systems, which challenge the system's secure operation. A single system usually has limited adjusting ability. In contrast, integrated energy systems such as electricity-gas, electricity-traffic, electricity-heat, and transmission-distribution coordinated systems enhance the regulating ability of renewable energy accommodation and environmental protection. The operation of integrated energy systems will meet three essential requirements: low-pollution attribute, robustness, and cooperativity. However, the diversity of uncertainty conditions, the complementarity of new energy accommodation among systems, the conflict of interest between systems, and the dispatch autonomy of systems challenge the requirements mentioned above. The main goal of this Research Topic includes: 1. Propose more effective trading mechanisms or control strategies for carbon and air pollutant emissions. 2. Fully use complementary effects between electric power, natural gas, heat, hydrogen, and traffic systems. 3. Realize the coordinated operation of integrated energy systems with limited information interaction and ensured dispatch autonomy. 4. Improve the robustness of integrated energy systems under diversified uncertainty conditions. 5. Apply data-based reinforcement learning methods for the dynamic decision of smart integrated energy systems under complex environments.

Download or read book Decision Making Under Uncertainty in Electricity Markets written by Antonio J. Conejo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-08 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision Making Under Uncertainty in Electricity Markets provides models and procedures to be used by electricity market agents to make informed decisions under uncertainty. These procedures rely on well established stochastic programming models, which make them efficient and robust. Particularly, these techniques allow electricity producers to derive offering strategies for the pool and contracting decisions in the futures market. Retailers use these techniques to derive selling prices to clients and energy procurement strategies through the pool, the futures market and bilateral contracting. Using the proposed models, consumers can derive the best energy procurement strategies using the available trading floors. The market operator can use the techniques proposed in this book to clear simultaneously energy and reserve markets promoting efficiency and equity. The techniques described in this book are of interest for professionals working on energy markets, and for graduate students in power engineering, applied mathematics, applied economics, and operations research.

Book Synopsis Reliability and Risk Evaluation of Wind Integrated Power Systems by : Roy Billinton
Download or read book Reliability and Risk Evaluation of Wind Integrated Power Systems written by Roy Billinton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is witnessing a rapid growth in wind and other renewable based electricity generation due to environmental concerns associated with electricity generation from the conventional sources. Wind power behaves quite differently than conventional electric power generating units due to its intermittent and diffuse nature. System planners and operators face the variability and uncertainty of wind power availability, and therefore, encounter considerable challenges in making decisions to maintain the adequacy and security of wind integrated power systems. This volume intends to bring out the original research work of researchers from academia and industry in understanding, quantifying and managing the risks associated with the uncertainty in wind variability in order to plan and operate a modern power system integrated with a significant proportion of wind power generation with an acceptable level of reliability. Accurate modeling of wind power variability and proper incorporation of the models in reliability and risk evaluation is very important for the planning and operation of electric power systems, and will play a crucial role in defining the requirement of various types of resources and services, such as storage and ancillary services in power systems.

Book Synopsis Integrating Renewables in Electricity Markets by : Juan M. Morales
Download or read book Integrating Renewables in Electricity Markets written by Juan M. Morales and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-03 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This addition to the ISOR series addresses the analytics of the operations of electric energy systems with increasing penetration of stochastic renewable production facilities, such as wind- and solar-based generation units. As stochastic renewable production units become ubiquitous throughout electric energy systems, an increasing level of flexible backup provided by non-stochastic units and other system agents is needed if supply security and quality are to be maintained. Within the context above, this book provides up-to-date analytical tools to address challenging operational problems such as: • The modeling and forecasting of stochastic renewable power production. • The characterization of the impact of renewable production on market outcomes. • The clearing of electricity markets with high penetration of stochastic renewable units. • The development of mechanisms to counteract the variability and unpredictability of stochastic renewable units so that supply security is not at risk. • The trading of the electric energy produced by stochastic renewable producers. • The association of a number of electricity production facilities, stochastic and others, to increase their competitive edge in the electricity market. • The development of procedures to enable demand response and to facilitate the integration of stochastic renewable units. This book is written in a modular and tutorial manner and includes many illustrative examples to facilitate its comprehension. It is intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of electric energy systems, applied mathematics and economics. Practitioners in the electric energy sector will benefit as well from the concepts and techniques explained in this book.
