Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The article discusses key issues in international business strategy from a workers' perspective and relates these to existing frameworks for understanding decision-making in multinational corporations (MNCs). It begins by identifying key decisions in international business, discussing their interrelationships, and highlighting key empirical trends. Academic research in international business strategy can, it is pointed out, helpfully inform worker representatives and trade unions in the context of their work within MNCs in Europe. The article goes on to review existing frameworks for understanding how MNCs make decisions about the major strategic issues. Its focus is on five types of approaches: the resource-based perspective on the firm; transaction-cost economics; institutionalism; the network approach; and the actor-centred perspectives. It is argued that research on MNC strategies, insofar as it is aimed at informing trade unions and worker representatives and at evaluating the impact of their activities, should be based on frameworks that bring together these disparate paradigms.

Book Synopsis Decision Making in Multinational Companies by : Khajag Garabet
Download or read book Decision Making in Multinational Companies written by Khajag Garabet and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of decision making has acquired a new dimension in the modern world of business. It is interpreted in various ways. Some consider it as an instrument of strategy, with tools and methods to implement the company's targets. Others regard it as a shift toward a more culture-centric or culture-oriented management. But it is mostly a method of adaptation to the new realities of the market - a market that has multiple forms and numerous cultural characteristics. Decision-making is also about the adoption of new skills in order to understand the evolution of the market. Thus, decision makers adopt their organization's philosophy, and apply the appropriate policies to solve issues. There are many different criteria that should be taken into consideration when defining the term ''decision-making'', including culture, which is one of the main factors having a significant influence given the current business environment. The objective of this study is to cast the light on this process through the prism of multinational organizations. The concept evolves in different spheres and business activities. Our methodology consists of a qualitative study on two multinationals; Transmed and PWC, the results of which reveal that culture has a positive influence in the process of decision-making.

Book Synopsis Smart Decisions by : Thomas N. Martin
Download or read book Smart Decisions written by Thomas N. Martin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's world is complex and getting more so each day. Huge multinational corporations, international crisis and fast breaking events require most people to make decisions on a daily basis without the tools to understand the long term impact that today's decision might create. Because most people have never really been trained in how to make important complex decisions most people rely on experience, and 'gut reaction' which is okay for many decisions, but not okay for decision that will have meaningful impact on organizations and individual. Decision makers need to develop the art and science of strategic decision making. Here, Professor Thomas Martin explains the need for decision makers to modify their thinking about how they deal with acquiring and analyzing information in each of the decision-making process steps. This approach requiring thinking modification will lengthen the process, make it more complex, and to some more arduous, but the comprehensiveness of the new thinking approach should lead to improved and more effective decision making. In this book, Dr. Martin presents a thinking modification framework that asserts that in the decision-making process, there are three situational states — a current state, future state, and a transitional state that one must deliberate in finding a solution. For each of these situational states, Martin develops an identical five-step process to determine the best decision to make. The steps of this process include: • Change-Needing Situational Analysis • Challenge Framing & Causal Analysis • Generating Solution Ideas • Choosing a Solution Set • Implementation and Aftermath Planning This book will appeal to decision makers, leaders, and students of management who want a specific framework that details the process behind making strategic, well-informed decisions.
