Book excerpt: Based on the biblical story of Judge Deborah, "Deborah Awake" is the account of a young Burger King manager, who was also a divorced mother of two, and how this unlikely woman brought down the billion dollar corporation, Chariots, inc. In her role as a teen Sunday school teacher at the behemoth 10,000 member Kedish Community Church, Deborah was alarmed at the unhealthy identification her students nurtured with the Chariots line of immodest apparel, their chain of 900 Chariot mall outlets coast to coast, and her Christian student's fascination with the immoral "Chariots The Magazine." To Deborah's astonishment, she learned that John Sisera, the manager of the local Chariots store, not only contributed heavily to the Kedish Community Church youth department, was good friends with Pastor Randy the youth minister, and that John Sisera was also a prominent member of the Kedish Community Church council. Senior Pastor Barrak was unaware of the vile philosophy of the Chariots corporation, and of John Sisera's heavy influence on Pastor Randy and the youth department. The Sisera's, in Barak's opinion, were a fine Kedish Community Church family, and was unconcerned with the moral storm brewing in the youth department. God called on Deborah to do something about it, and to recruit Pastor Barak in the Battle.

Book Synopsis Feminist Expositions of the Old Testament in Africa (Tanzania) in the Context of the Office Held by Deborah in Judges 4 and 5 by : Hoyce Lyimo-Mbowe
Download or read book Feminist Expositions of the Old Testament in Africa (Tanzania) in the Context of the Office Held by Deborah in Judges 4 and 5 written by Hoyce Lyimo-Mbowe and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2015 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both women and men were leaders since ancient times; however, few female leaders are reported. Deborah is one of the powerful female leaders during the ancient Israel. This work explored the feminist expositions of the Old Testament in Africa, with focus on the context of the offices held by Deborah as narrated in the book of Judges Chapter 4 and 5. The exegetical part shed light onto the role played by the female leaders among the Israelites. The feminist paradigms in Judges 4 and 5 demonstrate how female characters in these chapters construct a way to disagree with what seems to oppress women and deny their leadership capability. The findings of this study determine that gender should not be perceived as having an effect on leadership in general.
Book Synopsis Feminist Companion to Judges by : Athalya Brenner-Idan
Download or read book Feminist Companion to Judges written by Athalya Brenner-Idan and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1993-11-01 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Judges is replete with female figurations, and has, therefore, received a lot of attention from feminist critics. This volume of essays, however, changes the motivation behind this apparent centrality of female figures, claiming that in fact strong androcentric premises underlie the texts. The overall theme of this sparkling collection focusses on wives, daughters and mothers, and their relationships. An introductory section surveys the women of Judges, investigation satire, paradigm and deviation and the midrashic sources; Brenner and Van Dyck investigate the story and song of Deborah; Fuchs and Exum turn their attention to Jephthah's daughter; Amit and Reinhartz look at women in the Samson story. Finally, three essays, including one by Mieke Bal, deal with the brutal finale of the book in chapters 19-21.
Book Synopsis The Book of Judges by : Martin Sicker
Download or read book The Book of Judges written by Martin Sicker and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this book is the prophetic history of the political-military leaders, called judges, that succeeded Joshua and led the tribes of Israel during the tumultuous anarchic period between the death of Joshua and the transformation of the Israelite confederation of tribes into a nation-state (as subsequently described in the biblical book of Samuel, presented in the Masoretic text of the biblical book of Judges.) The term prophetic history is employed to describe the subject because prophecy in biblical thought is not fatalistic and does not predict future events. What it does do is assert that the moral course that a society chooses to follow in the present can determine its probable but not inevitable future. The purpose of the biblical book is to inform the reader of the historical consequences of the failure to observe the terms of the divine covenant entered into between God and the children of Israel at Mount Sinai following the exodus from Egypt. Although the biblical narrative is based on events that were believed to have taken place, the primary focus of prophetic history is on the moral implications of the decisions taken by men rather than the factual accuracy of the details of the events described, which have been studied exhaustively by archaeologists and historians of the ancient world.

Book Synopsis Ancient History Refined by : Jeff Walling
Download or read book Ancient History Refined written by Jeff Walling and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-11-22 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ancient History Refined combines the study of creation, secular science, and the Bible to present a groundbreaking theory that reconciles ancient historical records with events in the Holy Book. Jeff Walling presents the Barnes & Humphreys theory related to C-14 dating, which has proved to be accurate in calculating the measured values for the existence, strength, and the decay rate of the magnetosphere. Up until now, creationists and Bible scholars have neglected to consider this science when dating historical events, and they’ve failed to make the necessary alignment/synchronizations of time periods from Biblical chronologies with secular chronologies. Walling avoids that mistake, applying his B&H theory to the Egyptological chronologies based on the C-14 dates given to artifacts of associated time periods (see appendix B). While researching, he observed strict adherence to the scientific method. Whether you’re a historian, Bible scholar, archeologist, pastor, or student, you’ll enjoy finding out how creation science solves mysteries of the past.
