Book Synopsis Im Licht der Traditionen by : Walter Beyerlin
Download or read book Im Licht der Traditionen written by Walter Beyerlin and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis And God Saw That It Was Good (Gen 1:12) by : Ilse Capek
Download or read book And God Saw That It Was Good (Gen 1:12) written by Ilse Capek and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2021-01-25 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, the concept of quality is discussed both in the Bible and in the scholarship that evolved around the Bible. Scholars of various backgrounds analyse the Bible and its narrative and enumerative (or legal) way of qualifying the world around. According to the intrinsic theological view of the Bible, it is God himself who is the touchstone of any qualitative judgement. From literary and historical point of view though, we can - and we often do - judge Bible and things around us differently. The volume presents an intersection of biblical theology, biblical criticism and biblical archaeology in their quest for (their respective renditions of) quality.

Book Synopsis Christ in the Letters of Paul by : Hendrikus Boers
Download or read book Christ in the Letters of Paul written by Hendrikus Boers and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-02-14 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study addresses the centrality of Christ in Paul’s thought, recognizing at the same time that he does not express the meaning of Christ as an existing teaching. Christ as a person, not a teaching, determines Paul’s thinking, for himself and in his reasoning with his readers. Christ comes to expression in Paul as the explication of the fundamental reality for himself and for his readers. He develops his thoughts about Christ in each case anew as expressions of the Lord who determines his life and the lives of his readers. In his reasoning with his readers, he expects them to become aware of Christ as the one who determines them in their new lives as believers.
Book Synopsis Wissenschaft des Judentums Beyond Tradition by : Dorothea M. Salzer

This book was released on 2019-01-14 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scholarly study of the texts traditionally regarded as sacred in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam has been an important aspect of Wissenschaft des Judentums and was often conceptualized as part of Jewish theology. Featuring studies on Isaak Markus Jost's Jewish children's Bible, Samson Raphael Hirsch's complex position on the question whether or not the Hebrew Bible is to be understood within the context of the Ancient Orient, Isaac Mayer Wise's "The Origin of Christianity," Ignaz Goldziher’s Scholarship on the Qur'an, modern translators of the Qur'an into Hebrew, and the German translation of the Talmud, the volume attempts to shed light on some aspects of this phenomenon, which as a whole seems to have received few scholarly attention, and to contextualize it within the contemporary intellectual currents.

Book Synopsis Oral Performance and the Veil of Text by : Ben F. van Veen
Download or read book Oral Performance and the Veil of Text written by Ben F. van Veen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-01-26 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is common opinion in biblical scholarship that the biblical documents functioned in a sociocultural context dominated by the spoken word. Detextification is the result of addressing the complex relation between this formally acknowledged functioning in its original oral delivery and the daily praxis of biblical scholarship in which these documents function as autonomous texts in an ever-expanding universe of texts. The argument in this book is that in addition to acknowledging the difference in media (oral performance there and then versus reading text here and now), it is crucial to differentiate and explicate the mindsets behind these media. A literate reader in the present structures thought, vis-a-vis text, differently from someone intensively formed by oral-aural communication, in the moment of exposure to a performing orator. The latter perspective was Paul's in the process of his letter composition. Therefore, this is a leading question in detextification: How can a contemporary biblical scholar relate to the text of Paul's letters in such a way as to understand how the apostle envisioned his original addressees structuring their thoughts during the event of a letter's oral-aural delivery? Two test cases are provided from the Letter to the Galatians (Gal 2-3).
Book Synopsis The Post-Resurrection Appearance Stories of the Gospel Tradition by : John E. Alsup
Download or read book The Post-Resurrection Appearance Stories of the Gospel Tradition written by John E. Alsup and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-02-01 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Post-Resurrection Appearance Stories of the Gospel Tradition' Although there are innumerable studies of the Easter event, the spectrum of New Testament research demonstrates an astonishing vacuum regarding a history-of-tradition analysis of the Easter appearance stories, especially in the application of the form-critical method. This study begins with a methodological review of the more recent literature and challenges the widely accepted view that the appearance stories are to be excluded from consideration of the origins of Easter faith. Because of the far-reaching confusion over the place of these stories within the complex of the resurrection traditions, Part Two scans the distinctions and relationships between them. In Part Three the author concentrates upon the appearance stories themselves and raises the following questions: Are pre-redactional forms discernible? If so, do such demonstrate by comparison similarities of form and content? Does a NT 'Gattung' stand behind them? And, finally, Part Four probes the matter of analogies in the world of primitive Christianity, while Part Five summarizes and asks provisionally if observations of a formal nature invite suggestive possibilities for further work on the question of historical experience behind the stories. An attempt at critical review of such questions is long overdue.

The volume makes a significant contribution to the ongoing debate on the interpretation of Jesus' death and its meaning for Christian theology.

Download or read book Brot, Licht und Weinstock written by Silke Petersen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-05-31 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study considers the “I am” sayings in the Gospel of John, interpreted in the context of their reception in late antiquity. It takes an intertextual approach, considering both inner-biblical parallels and extra-biblical texts, which have been much neglected in recent Johannine scholarship. A comparative analysis of the “I am” formula is complemented by the consideration of the metaphors of the predicative “I am” words, focussing particularly on the use of "bread", "light" and "vine" and the context of these metaphors in the Gospel of John and elsewhere. This discussion demonstrates that Johannine Christology is profoundly incarnational.
