Book excerpt: PRIDE OF LIONS A Blood Feud Had Ruled Her Lands For More Years Than Anyone Could Remember And Allisun Murry, chieftain of her clan, would not rest until her murdered kin were avenged. Yet the sight of Hunter Carmichael as he rode from the midst of her enemies gave her pause. For the King's man had proven his bravery in the face of certain death, and captured her unsuspecting heart. Allisun Murry stirred Hunter's blood in a way no woman had before. For the magnificent beauty was living proof that ancient warrior queens had once roamed the Scottish hills. Yet would a woman so hellbent on vengeance ever willingly lay down her sword and give in to the passions that now raged between them?

Book excerpt: They joy of writing "Daniel In The Lion's Den" is only surpassed by the daily joy of helping others, as I go beside the patients and their families, at Detroit Receiving Hospital. God is always with me, as I work along side the nurses and doctors, in one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the United States. As I began my position as Patient Advocate, in 2009, I took note daily of heart wrenching stories, strength of faith at the darkest hours, and God's hand in healing. My wife, Paula, suggested that I keep a log of many of the stories that developed. Every night brought something new. I was in complete awe of our entire staff at Detroit Receiving Hospital, not only the doctors and nurses, but the clerks, registration personnel, and security officers as well. Remarkably, I was widely accepted by that staff, and soon felt very much at home, as I worked beside them. The stories I have to tell are actual life and death accounts, seen through the eyes of a Patient Advocate. The Emergency Department at Detroit Receiving Hospital can be horrifying, but it can also be a place of incredible mercy. It is a place of refuge for many who might be homeless, seriously ill or injured. It is, for some, the last place they will ever visit...alive. The pain and the grief here can be overwhelming, but as you read these stories you will find joy and healing. God's work here is unmistakable. I hope you see His hand, as i did, and just as Daniel did in the Biblical "Lion's Den".

Book excerpt: Danny Kingston, a preacher's son and a well-liked honor student, has admired Serena Davidson, the popular, pretty, captain of the girls varsity volleyball team, since the first day of their freshman year in high school; but he could never summon the courage to speak to her, let alone ask her out. That is until their senior year, when Serena's grade in geography begins to plummet, threatening her position on the volleyball team. Her coach and geography teacher intervenes and asks Danny to tutor her. Gladly agreeing to help her out, Danny and Serena immediately hit it off. Inevitably, they fall in love and eventually get married. They endure many challenges and obstacles in their marriage, which serves to test their allegiance to Jesus and to each other. Always victorious, Danny and Serena feel that there isn't anything they can't overcome. Until one day, their allegiance to Jesus and their allegiance to each other are put to the ultimate test by a band of radical Muslim terrorists, who are out to rid the world of all Christians. Will Danny make the right decision? Or will he give in to the terrorists' demands and undermine everything he's ever stood for?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lion’s Den (PB) By: Frank B. Atkinson The Lion’s Den is essential reading for anyone whose confidence in American democracy has been shaken by recent events. There is plenty to discourage and alarm us these days; the supply of negative political role models, real and fictional, seems endless. Frank Atkinson leaves no doubt that we can do better and be better. Just in time, it seems, he arrives with some exemplary political characters, a powerfully uplifting story, and a summons to get to work restoring the ethic of principled citizenship and service that reflects the ‘better angels of our nature’ and offers hope for bringing Americans together again.” - LARRY J. SABATO, Director, UVA Center for Politics The Lion’s Den offers a prescription for American renewal at a time of eroding confidence in our political institutions and growing confusion about our national purpose. In Frank Atkinson’s formulation, there are no quick fixes for our broken politics … no easy cure for what ails our democracy. A republic’s community spirit and capacity for constructive self-governance depend on a consensus about essential values and the active choice to practice, promote, and perpetuate those values. The ethic of principled citizenship and service that Atkinson considers indispensable for American renewal is not an inherited trait – like every ethic, it is a character requiring cultivation. And it is strongest when grounded in personal faith and integrity … illuminated by hard-learned lessons from history and experience … inspired by worthy human exemplars … propelled by the optimistic pursuit of a “more perfect union” … and kindled in a culture of mutual respect and forbearance guided by the “Golden Rule.” No starry-eyed idealist, Frank Atkinson’s major nonfiction works – The Dynamic Dominion and Virginia in the Vanguard – turned a candid lens on the hard-fought modern politics of his native state. In The Lion’s Den, he offers a compelling fictional account of life in the political arena – at once a venue for selfless contribution and palace of selfish ambition. Inspired by timeless lessons from the Book of Daniel, Madison’s vision of competition and compromise, and the colorful politics of his contemporary Commonwealth, Atkinson places his characters in a modern-day lion’s den where they grapple with vexing moral and practical choices. But Atkinson’s players find the grace to come together ... and, he suggests, so can we.

The painting begins to change the lives of the woman who is the gallery's curator and that of an ancient man of the fey Aetherial folk who has mysteriously risen from the depths of the ocean. Neither human nor fairy knows how they are connected, but when the painting is stolen, both are compelled to discover the meaning behind the painting and the key it holds to their future. In a haunting, powerful tale of two worlds and those caught between, Freda Warrington weaves an exciting story of suspense, adventure and danger that fulfills the promise of the Aetherial Tales as only she can.
