Book Synopsis Dangerous Virtues: Purity by : Elaine Barbieri
Download or read book Dangerous Virtues: Purity written by Elaine Barbieri and published by Montlake Romance. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purity, Honesty, Chastity--they were all admirable traits, but when they came in the form of three headstrong, spirited, sinfully lovely sisters, they were...DANGEROUS VIRTUES. From the moment Purity laid eyes on the stranger's magnificent body, she felt anything but what her name implied. Who was the mysterious half-breed who'd bushwhacked the trail drive she was leading? And why did she find it impossible to forget his blazing, green-eyed gaze? Though Pale Wolf had attacked her, though he was as driven to discover his brother's killer as she was to find her long-lost sisters, Purity longed to make him a part of her life, just as her waiting softness longed to welcome his perfect masculine form. There might be nothing virtuous about her intentions toward Pale Wolf, but she knew their ultimate joining would be pure paradise.
Book Synopsis Dangerous Virtues by : John Koessler

Book excerpt: Has the World Confused Evil with Righteousness? When sin is disguised as virtue, the path to cultivating righteousness becomes impossible. Such is the challenge Christians face in the modern age. Not long ago, most people would agree that the seven deadly sins are in fact deadly. But ask them today, and you’ll hear a different answer. Today, “anger” is often considered an admirable emotion, “lust” the only expression of love, and “greed” the unassailable right to “get what’s yours.” The world can rebrand sin all it wants and declare the death of truth, but it has no power against the truth of the Scripture. What God calls sin is sin—no matter what the world says. And sin always has the same destination—death and destruction. Dangerous Virtues examines how to recognize these seven deadly sins as they are subtly disguised in today’s culture. Dr. John Koessler provides a theology of sin and why the Christian must develop a prayerful heart and discerning eye to identify where sin exists in a world where good is called evil and evil called good.

Book Synopsis Beyond Virtue Ethics by : Stephen M. Meawad
Download or read book Beyond Virtue Ethics written by Stephen M. Meawad and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book develops a contemporary model of spiritual struggle aimed at perpetual ascent to and in God. Spiritual struggle in this project, which ultimately shifts the emphasis from virtue's acquisition to its pursuit, is defined as the exertion of effort in all conceivable dimensions-physical, emotional, psychological, intellectual, and spiritual-with intent to attain a semblance of, knowledge of, and intimacy with Jesus Christ in community, for God and for others. Gregory of Nyssa's theory of epektasis assumes a basic three-tiered conception of perpetual ascent, beginning with purification and detachment from fleshly passions, strengthening the soul by increasing in similitude to God, and ending with unity with God, that is, with inexpressible and transformative experience of God. God-the infinite, the Good, and the Paragon of virtue-functions as the orienting principle of this perpetual ascent, mitigating the issues of the unity of the virtues and the self-centeredness and self-effacement of virtue. This book goes on to provide two of many potential concrete instantiations of this suggested model. The first is the application of this model to the body, which in turn will have implications for contemporary sexual ethics. The second is a reintegration of ethics and Scripture through the contemporary application of an ancient Patristic lectio divina"--

Book excerpt: Whilst this book, because of its simple structure and consecutiveness, is admirably adapted to the humble capacity of the poor and unlettered, it will be found, at the same time, to be well reasoned throughout and convincing; and of this I can advance no better proof than by referring the intelligent reader to the chapter on the Catholic doctrine of the Invocation of Saints, which is very clearly set forth therein according to the teaching of the great Council of Trent, and established beyond the possibility of reasonable doubt or contradiction.
