Book excerpt: In recent years, couple breakdowns and divorces for mild and superficial reasons have increased. To counter this, it's time to read Love Brain: Dangerous to Be in Love Only With the Heart and Not With the Brain. Infidelity, psychological abuse and violence are no longer the most important causes of separation. Incompatibility of character, non-fulfillment of expectations and the disillusionment of seeing her transformed from a princess into a witch and him not transforming from a toad into a prince seem to be the issues. Men and women trying to live out their fantasy with their ideal perfect partner are instead finding disenchantment. The real problem with relationships is not being incompatible or being the ideal couple, but loving without thinking. We are unaware of how men and women should love and be loved. Love Brain describes how our brains love and provides alternatives to reduce the misunderstandings that lead to divorce. The book's goals are to identify the main relationship breakdown causes, to understand the male and female brain love function, and to use effective brain-gender love strategies to prevent and reduce marriage conflicts. About the Author: Evelyn Prado, Ph.D., is a high school counselor at Tecnologico de Monterrey. Jesús Amaya, Ph.D., is full professor of education and school counseling at Universidad de Monterrey. The couple has two sons. They have written18 books about family, marriage, education, study skills and reading fields. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in perilous times, filled with existential problems and challenges. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance. But, according to author Pastor Kevin “KD” Desmore, the biggest problem is that humankind is choosing to ignore Biblical knowledge, and he believes it will lead to more division and destruction. In The Most Dangerous Problem of Mankind, Desmore addresses this growing issue. He maintains that the Bible is the answer and solution to all our problems. He shares that the most unappreciated verse in the entire Bible is Genesis 1:26. It tells us of who we are, the authority we have and God’s original intent for our lives here on earth. It shows us how we can discover our value and give us a sense of worth before leaving this transient world. Desmore maintains that our purpose is to make the kingdom of God visible here on earth. If we don’t understand the intent of our creator, there’s no way to fix what’s causing us to malfunction. Through the Tell-All book of God, he implores mankind to go back to the Bible, accept Christ and become partakers of his divine nature.

Book excerpt: Caffeine in Food and Dietary Supplements is the summary of a workshop convened by the Institute of Medicine in August 2013 to review the available science on safe levels of caffeine consumption in foods, beverages, and dietary supplements and to identify data gaps. Scientists with expertise in food safety, nutrition, pharmacology, psychology, toxicology, and related disciplines; medical professionals with pediatric and adult patient experience in cardiology, neurology, and psychiatry; public health professionals; food industry representatives; regulatory experts; and consumer advocates discussed the safety of caffeine in food and dietary supplements, including, but not limited to, caffeinated beverage products, and identified data gaps. Caffeine, a central nervous stimulant, is arguably the most frequently ingested pharmacologically active substance in the world. Occurring naturally in more than 60 plants, including coffee beans, tea leaves, cola nuts and cocoa pods, caffeine has been part of innumerable cultures for centuries. But the caffeine-in-food landscape is changing. There are an array of new caffeine-containing energy products, from waffles to sunflower seeds, jelly beans to syrup, even bottled water, entering the marketplace. Years of scientific research have shown that moderate consumption by healthy adults of products containing naturally-occurring caffeine is not associated with adverse health effects. The changing caffeine landscape raises concerns about safety and whether any of these new products might be targeting populations not normally associated with caffeine consumption, namely children and adolescents, and whether caffeine poses a greater health risk to those populations than it does for healthy adults. This report delineates vulnerable populations who may be at risk from caffeine exposure; describes caffeine exposure and risk of cardiovascular and other health effects on vulnerable populations, including additive effects with other ingredients and effects related to pre-existing conditions; explores safe caffeine exposure levels for general and vulnerable populations; and identifies data gaps on caffeine stimulant effects.

Book excerpt: Dangerous Christian is a war cry for intimacy with God. It's easy to equate following Jesus with being nice. Fighting, for all intents and purposes, has become what the bad guys do. That's the message Shay Robbins learned growing up. Be a good guy. Keep your cool. And don't get too passionate-that's a fast track to sin. But perhaps fighting itself isn't the problem-maybe it's what we're fighting for. We cut other people down to prove our point. We do whatever it takes to get ahead. We puff up our chest and strut around hoping to get others' approval. And many times, we fail to even recognize the spiritual battle raging just beyond the curtain of our senses. In a world obsessed with status and self-satisfaction and a Christian community caught up in culture wars, Dangerous Christian offers an invitation to a radically different way of life. Weaving together personal experience and biblical truth, Shay takes readers on the journey of developing brave hearts to engage our broken world through: -Discovering the radical, passionate love of Jesus Christ -Cultivating a posture of humility and dependence on God -Experiencing intimacy with God that changes us from the inside out -Unleashing the power of the Holy Spirit to fight spiritual battles -Breaking free from fear and turning our wounds into weapons This book is not about working harder or doing more. It's an invitation into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, which can transform us from passive believers into dangerous weapons for the Gospel. A Dangerous Christian sees the world, themselves, and other people differently. Appearances don't matter so much anymore. Physical prowess is no longer how strength is measured. Faith is. Humility, toughness, prayer, and passion to follow Jesus-that's what has the power to change our world, make the devil tremble and bring glory to God. You and I were created to fight against evil with our Heavenly Father by our side. Following Jesus isn't for wimps. It's the most dangerous thing we could ever do. It will take toughness and grit, passion and gutsiness. But it may not look like you'd expect.
