Download or read book Superabundance written by Marian L. Tupy and published by Cato Institute. This book was released on 2022-08-31 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generations of people have been taught that population growth makes resources scarcer. In 2021, for example, one widely publicized report argued that “The world's rapidly growing population is consuming the planet's natural resources at an alarming rate . . . the world currently needs 1.6 Earths to satisfy the demand for natural resources ... [a figure that] could rise to 2 planets by 2030.” But is that true? After analyzing the prices of hundreds of commodities, goods, and services spanning two centuries, Marian Tupy and Gale Pooley found that resources became more abundant as the population grew. That was especially true when they looked at “time prices,” which represent the length of time that people must work to buy something. To their surprise, the authors also found that resource abundance increased faster than the population―a relationship that they call superabundance. On average, every additional human being created more value than he or she consumed. This relationship between population growth and abundance is deeply counterintuitive, yet it is true. Why? More people produce more ideas, which lead to more inventions. People then test those inventions in the marketplace to separate the useful from the useless. At the end of that process of discovery, people are left with innovations that overcome shortages, spur economic growth, and raise standards of living. But large populations are not enough to sustain superabundance―just think of the poverty in China and India before their respective economic reforms. To innovate, people must be allowed to think, speak, publish, associate, and disagree. They must be allowed to save, invest, trade, and profit. In a word, they must be free.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes a 72-minute DVD demonstrating basic nymph fishing techniques Color photo sequences to teach 11 different nymph fishing methods, including Czech, hinged leader, Leisenring lift, and wet-fly swing Detailed information on imitating mayflies, stoneflies, caddisflies, true flies, scuds, and sow bugs In nature nothing happens without a reason. The difficulty for the angler is merely that the reason is hidden some way beneath the surface.--G. E. M. Skues During the considerable periods of time trout spend feeding exclusively on underwater food forms, nymph fishing can be the most productive, if not the only way to catch fish. But understanding what occurs below the water's surface can be a challenge for even the most experienced angler. In Nymph-Fishing Rivers and Streams, aquatic entomologist and long-time fly fisherman Rick Hafele shares the information necessary to successfully decipher the mysteries of trout life. He starts by explaining their feeding patterns--where trout feed, when they feed, and what's available for them to eat. Sections on tackle and pattern selection help anglers sort through equipment and imitations to find the best outfit for their needs. The DVD complements the photos in the book that show various methods for nymph fishing. Also included is an angler's field guide to nymphs with details on their habitat, importance to trout, and the most effective patterns and fishing tactics to imitate them.
Book Synopsis Manifest Technique by : Mark R. Villegas
Download or read book Manifest Technique written by Mark R. Villegas and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2021-07-13 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An obscured vanguard in hip hop Filipino Americans have been innovators and collaborators in hip hop since the culture’s early days. But despite the success of artists like Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas and superstar producer Chad Hugo, the genre’s significance in Filipino American communities is often overlooked. Mark R. Villegas considers sprawling coast-to-coast hip hop networks to reveal how Filipino Americans have used music, dance, and visual art to create their worlds. Filipino Americans have been exploring their racial position in the world in embracing hip hop’s connections to memories of colonial and racial violence. Villegas scrutinizes practitioners’ language of defiance, placing the cultural grammar of hip hop within a larger legacy of decolonization. An important investigation of hip hop as a movement of racial consciousness, Manifest Technique shows how the genre has inspired Filipino Americans to envision and enact new ideas of their bodies, their history, and their dignity.

Book Synopsis The Triassic and Jurassic of the Junggar Basin, China: Advances in Palaeontology and Environments by : Jingeng Sha
Download or read book The Triassic and Jurassic of the Junggar Basin, China: Advances in Palaeontology and Environments written by Jingeng Sha and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2024-02-14 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a compilation of recent scientific discoveries in the field of Earth sciences from Mesozoic rocks of the Junggar Basin, China. The Triassic and Jurassic strata of this basin are particularly important because they were deposited in a continental environment inside, or close to, the Arctic Circle. The successions of the Junggar Basin therefore provide a rare snapshot of a high-latitude seasonal continental ecosystem, at a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The research papers within this volume cover a range of topics, spanning the fields of palaeontology, palaeogeography, sedimentology and geochemistry, and include studies from episodes of marked environmental perturbation, including the end-Triassic mass extinction (c. 201 Ma) and the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (c. 183 Ma). The scientific advances documented here contribute to the understanding of Mesozoic high-latitude continental environments, and are expected to lead to follow-up studies, facilitating further interdisciplinary collaborations in the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The anthology Voices From The Past by the late Russian immigrant writer Orest M. Gladky presents a six-part collection of short stories preserving facts and thoughts about the tumultuous history of Russia—Soviet Union from 1917 to 1971. In the first Part of this stirring collection, “In Whose Name?”, stories follow the period when the civil war engulfed the Motherland and the White Army volunteers are defending Holy Russia from the Reds. In “The Dispossessed,” stories describe tragic times when Stalin reneges on the promise of the revolution—All land to the peasants—and launches an onslaught on peasants through forced farm collectivization and deportation of millions to Siberia. Stories in “I Believe” tell how the Communists imposed Marxist dogma to eradicate belief in God, they close churches, kill and send clergymen to the concentration camps and conduct relentless anti-religious propaganda. In the fourth part State secret police watchdogs relentlessly hound “The Enemies of the People” and send millions without trial to prisons and gulags. In “The Humdrum Life in Socialist Paradise” stories capture snapshots of ordinary citizens’ days in the Socialist-Communist state and their struggle to survive under Soviet rule and Bolshevik dictatorship. The last Part, “Behind the Iron Curtain,” tells with wry humor stories about events after World War Two, Cold War Years, and Collective Leadership in Soviet Union.
