Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henry Kimbro was one of Negro League's best on the baseball field, and one of the so-called worst off the field. During his career, he was described as the bad boy of the Negro League, evil, a loner, and was even dubbed the Black Ty Cobb of the League. These perceptions followed him to his death. Afterwards, his daughter was given a tattered sixty-year-old scrapbook that he kept during his life and directed by her mother to do something with it. She did, she wrote Daddy's Scrapbook, Henry Kimbro of the Negro Baseball League, A Daughter's Perspective. This book is a journey through Henry Kimbro's life as a baseball player, a successful African-American businessman, and a father who sent four of his five children through college. Stories are shared about how cruel discrimination during his youth influenced the temperament he was known for as an adult, and how playing in the Cuban League changed his life when he met his Cuban-born wife of 48 years. It also details his post-League years as a father, grandfather, and an inductee into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. This book travels full circle to give insight to who Henry Kimbro was as seen by his daughter who loved and respected him.

Book Synopsis Anything Your Little Heart Desires by : Patricia Bosworth
Download or read book Anything Your Little Heart Desires written by Patricia Bosworth and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2012-06-05 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A memoir by the daughter of famous attorney Bartley C. Crum: “A gripping account not only of Crum but of McCarthyism and its devastating effects” (SFGate). The FBI kept a secret dossier on him. He was a confidante to stars; adviser to politicians; and lawyer to the likes of William Randolph Hearst, Rita Hayworth, and the blacklisted Hollywood Ten, whom he defended during the House Un-American Activities Committee trials of 1947. Bartley C. Crum was also Patricia Bosworth’s father—a frequently absent, unrelentingly principled, and stubbornly self-destructive one. Anything Your Little Heart Desires is Bosworth’s memoir of life with him, and of the momentous events that shaped his lifetime, from the New Deal to the Cold War and the anti-Communist fervor that jolted American life. Using interviews, journals, letters, and her father’s own files, Bosworth delivers a profoundly personal portrait of the father she never fully knew, and the political forces that shaped a nation.

Book Synopsis Daddy's Special Little Girl by : Jody Lynn Enders
Download or read book Daddy's Special Little Girl written by Jody Lynn Enders and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-05-11 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Is it possible to describe the confusion and shame I felt every time daddy came to my bedroom and used me to fulfill his sexual perversion? Is it possible to describe the fear that consumed me when I thought I was pregnant with my dad’s baby?” Daddy’s Special Little Girl is a heart-on-your-sleeve memoir about growing up in an abusive home with five siblings, an alcoholic father, and a courageous mother—about desperate attempts to cope with unbearable pain, about surviving the betrayal and devastation of incest and the rejection of divorce, about God’s forgiveness and healing. The author bares her soul as she takes you on an inconceivable journey that includes graphic scenes of her abuse, honest exposure of her own sin, paralyzing anguish and sorrow she endures, and raw emotions as she accepts her dad’s prison sentence and death. You will weep as you read about the heartbreaking encounters and effects of the hideous crime of incest. You will rejoice as you experience the forgiveness, love, and support this family had for their dad and each other. In Daddy’s Special Little Girl, Jody reveals the lingering devastation of a family crime no one wants to talk about. Her transparency is disarming, her case compelling, and her focus on healing. For the thousands who have experienced the pain of incest, the book points the way to help. For those who would like to believe that “these things don’t happen in Christian homes,” Daddy’s Special Little Girl will explode the myth. —Gary D. Chapman, Ph.D Author of The Five Love Languages
Book Synopsis Defending the Spirit by : Randall Robinson
Download or read book Defending the Spirit written by Randall Robinson and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1999-02-01 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Randall Robinson's Defending The Spirit is a personal account of his rise from poverty in the segregated south to a position as one of the most distinguished and outspoken political activists of our time. In 1977, Robinson founded TransAfrica, the first organization to lobby for the interests of African and Caribbean peoples. TransAfrica was instrumental in the release of Nelson Mandela from prison in South Africa and the reinstatement of President Aristide in Haiti. Robinson's thoughtful and provocative memoir paints a vivid picture of racism in the hallowed halls of Harvard, where he went to law school, as well as the corridors of power in Washington, D.C. He also recounts in fascinating detail his trips to troubled African and Caribbean nations; more than anyone else, he has raised awareness of the problems in those countries. Defending The Spirit also gives a devastating commentary on America's foreign policy endeavors in African and Caribbean nations, and an impassioned call to African-Americans for new leadership and activism to fight racism all over the world.

Download or read book God's Eye View written by Tommy Tenney and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2008-07-13 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In God's Eye View, Tommy Tenney explores how worship lifts us up to see the trouble we face from God's perspective instead of being trapped in an earthly, time-bound viewpoint. The higher we go, the smaller our problems seem. Tenney also teaches the Principle of Magnification: The closer you get to something, the bigger it appears. In other words, worship not only "shrinks" our problems; it also magnifies God in our lives and to others. Worship doesn't really change our problems; it just minimizes their influence over us as we focus on God. He doesn't promise to remove all of our circumstances, but God does assure us that in His presence and from His perspective--we can see things as they really are and not how they appear to be. In the book of Revelation John was instructed to "behold the Lion," but from an earthly perspective John saw only the Lamb. The heavenly perspective reveals that the Lamb is the Lion, the babe of Bethlehem is the "ancient of days," and the dragon is really a weakened lizard. God's eye view is higher than man's. Higher than a bird's eye view, higher than a man's eye view is God's eye view.

After she was diagnosed, Dawn saw things as they were and not as she wished them to be, and slowly but surely she began putting things in order. Yes, this cancer is going to end my life here on earth several years sooner than if I didnt have it. Though it wont take away what I have. I have a loving father and best friend. I have Cathy, my wonderful mother by marriage. I have my mother and Kristie who I love so very much. I have the two most beautiful children in the world in Tyler and Jordan. I have peace with God and myself. I also have something that is so important to me: I have love from all those I just mentioned. They love me. So you see, cancer didnt win. It can never take what I have. Please understand that I havent given up on a miracle nor have I given up on life here on earth. I wont live my life waiting on a miracle. Im going to live my life as if I dont need a miracle. I wont live my life in fear of death. Im going to live my life as if I have nothing to fear. Yes, I will do whatever it takes to live. Im going to do my best to do what it takes to be happy not depressed. So yes, I hate that I have cancer, although I love my life and those who are in it and make it what it is.

Download or read book Daddy's Home! written by Steven Schnur and published by Crown. This book was released on 2013-01-23 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s dad comes home at the end of the day to a job he loves: fatherhood. Daddy’s Home! gathers together honest and funny true stories about coming home into manhood--getting married, buying a house, having kids, and everything else that happens when you don't want to put off being a grown-up any longer. Steven Schnur writes about the frustrations of infertility, the scary joy of helping his wife give birth, and the relentless scramble to keep up with twins. Always, he gets the details right and adds a dose of his own hard-won wisdom. Today’s dad is learning to appreciate the small things--the daily discoveries children make, the pleasures and worries of raising them right, and the ever-evolving knack for turning little trials into little triumphs. Today’s dad is negotiating the supermarket, coming to terms with his family history and heritage, and living with the sweet chaos of watching his children change. Daddy’s Home! preserves in words what is so fleeting in nature: “the cherished hopes, the mayhem, and the minor miracles that amplify the narrowly circumscribed universe of one doting father.” The perfect companion for both veteran and novice dads, Daddy’s Home! is a tribute to people everywhere who are heroic in their ability to recognize joy. It is a celebration of a man’s biggest challenge-and also his biggest delight.
