No obstante, adaptar la universidad a este nuevo rol, requiere no solo un cambio en su infraestructura, sino también en su misión y cultura (Jacob et al., 2003). Si bien presenciamos un uso permanente en la literatura sobre educación superior del concepto de cultura emprendedora, su alcance y contenido está escasamente sistematizado. Los instrumentos de medida existentes son muy limitados y se centran en destacar aspectos de la universidad relativos a los resultados generados por la comercialización de conocimiento o a los mecanismos de interacción universidad –empresa, dejando de lado la influencia de la cultura universitaria en la generación de las competencias emprendedoras en los alumnos y olvidando el rol de los docentes universitarios en ello. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo determinar los rasgos clave de la cultura organizacional emprendedora en educación superior, así como proponer un instrumento para su medida, enfatizando el rol de los docentes y la utilización de metodologías de enseñanza aprendizaje emprendedoras, como vehículos clave para el desarrollo de competencias emprendedoras en los estudiantes universitarios...

While the Greeks may have contemplated the human condition, the modern study of the human mind can be traced back to Sigmund Freud (1900) and the psychoanalytic movement. He began the exploration of both conscious and unconscious factors that propelled humans to engage in a variety of behaviors. While Freud’s focus may have been on repressed sexuality our focus in this volume lies elsewhere. We are concerned herein with the expression of the cognitions, motivations, passions, intentions, perceptions, and emotions associated with entrepreneurial behaviors. We are attempting in this volume to expand on the work of why entrepreneurs think d- ferently from other people (Baron, 1998, 2004). During the decade of the 1990s the eld of entrepreneurship research seemingly abandoned the study of the entrepreneur. This was the result of earlier research not being able to demonstrate some unique entrepreneurial personality, trait, or char- teristic (Brockhaus and Horwitz, 1986). It was both a naïve and simplistic search for the “holy grail” of what made entrepreneurs the way they are. However, many of the researchers in this volume have never gave up the belief that a better und- standing of the mind of the entrepreneur would give us a better understanding of the processes that lead to the creation of new ventures.

Book excerpt: Where not so long ago professors "owned" the tools of scholarship, controlled the labor process, and certified the quality of our product, the process of McDonaldization has torn this relation asunder. Rapidly increasing student faculty ratios, mass classes, and the use of low-wage teaching assistants and adjunct faculty have changed the job of professor (p. 64 ff.). Faculty are pressured to recruit and retain students seen as "customers" (p. 67) and to compete with private for-profit [End Page 368] universities (p. 71-72). With declining government aid for higher education, students increasingly see education as a form of consumption and demand control, choice, and "edutainment" (p. 64 and elsewhere). This is seen most obviously in "course evaluations" which some of the authors refer to as "customer satisfaction surveys" (p. 36, 132, 147). At the same time, faculty are relentlessly pushed to publish, engage in funded research, and develop new technological competencies. Control over product is threatened as universities make demands on ownership of intellectual property including patents and licenses, publications and courseware (p. 79-81). From the perspective of faculty, McDonaldization represents a dramatic loss of pedagogical authority. Simultaneously, the state, which still pays for much of the cost of education as a "public good," is increasing demands for accountability and standards. This takes the form of schemes for standardizing promotion and tenure, quantifying and measuring the product being delivered, and attempting to assure quality.
