This book is about the trauma experienced when a parent dies and leaves young children behind-a trauma that's insurmountable without professional help. In this book a happy little girl's life is changed completely when she loses the person she loves the most-her hero, her light, her everything. She finds herself without the support of her family and goes through many sad experiences, feeling alone with the pain inside. But everything she has to go through makes her strong. She learns to love God, she learns to love herself, and most of all she learns to forgive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In twenty-one years of collective love and struggle, the poor, unhoused, disabled, Black, Brown, Indigenous, elder and youth leaders, artists, and cultural workers of POOR Magazine/Prensa POBRE, PoorNewsNetwork (PNN)/Homefulness have never called the Po'Lice. We face our demons ALL THE TIME, because we all come out of colonial trauma experiences of racism, white supremacy, ableism, family violence, false borders, eviction, houselessness, criminalization, elder/child abuse, sexual violence, rape, incarceration, Po'Lice violence, genderism, hate crimes, and so much more. At Homefulness, we go within to solve our community's problems.Based off POOR Magazine's revolutionary workshops of the same name and collected here in writing for the first time, this handbook takes readers through the Herstory/His-STORY of Po'Lice Terror of our bodies, lives, children and elders in this stolen land, and then shares the model of the Elephant Council at Homefulness-a poor, Indigenous people/traumatized people's accountability circle, which includes a redefinition of the silently violent, western white supremacist notion of "security," and enables us to hold each other through trauma and institute a true definition of interdependent safety.Thru participatory exercises, theatre, art, prayer, and poetry, Poverty Skolaz and Elephant Co-Leaders Lisa Tiny Gray-Garcia, Leroy Moore, Muteado Silencio, Aunti Frances Moore, and many more revolutionary poets, artists, and thinkers take us all through one way to make a collective shift away from the lie of state-sponsored murder and into the realness of what we can build ourselves.

But many of us feel discouraged to practice because we see young, slim, flexible, well, and able-bodied people dominating yoga spaces. Yet, yoga is truly a practice for all—conferring enormous benefits to our overall well-being as our bodies change, age, and navigate various health challenges. Jivana Heyman, founder of Accessible Yoga, views yoga as a basic human right—saying we all deserve to practice it in whatever state we find our body or mind. Accessible Yoga offers a simple, clear, and wonderfully adaptable practice for all people regardless of ability, health, and body type. Heyman has spent over twenty years sharing yoga with people of all abilities and backgrounds, and in this book, he shares his knowledge by breaking down complex yoga poses, breathing practices, meditation techniques, and yoga teachings into clearly understandable and practical tools we can use every day, regardless of our limitations or challenges.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set against the cultural and political backdrop of interwar Europe and the Americas, Poetry in Pieces is the first major study of the Peruvian poet César Vallejo (1892–1938) to appear in English in more than thirty years. Vallejo lived and wrote in two distinct settings—Peru and Paris—which were continually crisscrossed by new developments in aesthetics, politics, and practices of everyday life; his poetry and prose therefore need to be read in connection with modernity in all its forms and spaces. Michelle Clayton combines close readings of Vallejo’s writings with cultural, historical, and theoretical analysis, connecting Vallejo—and Latin American poetry—to the broader panorama of international modernism and the avant-garde, and to writers and artists such as Rainer Maria Rilke, James Joyce, Georges Bataille, and Charlie Chaplin. Poetry in Pieces sheds new light on one of the key figures in twentieth-century Latin American literature, while exploring ways of rethinking the parameters of international lyric modernity.

Book excerpt: A Regency series debut from the New York Times bestselling author whose “endearing characters and warm-hearted stories never fail to inspire and delight” (Sabrina Jeffries). As heir to a title and great wealth, Will Masterson should have stayed home and tended his responsibilities. Instead he went to war. Now, after perilous years fighting the French, he intends his current mission to be his last. But all his plans are forgotten when he arrives in the small mountain stronghold of San Gabriel and meets her. Knowing herself to be too tall, strong, and unconventional to appeal to a man, Athena Markham has always gloried in her independence. But for the first time in her life, she finds a man who might be her match. Two of a kind, too brave for their own good, Athena and Will vow to do whatever it takes to vanquish San Gabriel’s enemies. For neither will back down from death, and only together can they find happiness and a love deeper than any they’d dared imagine . . . Praise for the Rogues Redeemed series “Putney begins her new Rogues Redeemed series on a high note with an impeccably written book that realistically integrates the cost of the Napoleonic Wars into a compelling story that neatly balances dangerous adventures and passionate romance.”—Booklist “A thrilling, romantic tale.”—Bookpage, Top Pick of the Month “Putney’s multifaceted and well-developed characters add depth to this romance, which is complete with the trials of war and the promise of future series installments.”—Publishers Weekly

Book excerpt: This volume explores the significations and developments of the Salsa consciente movement, a Latino musico-poetic and political discourse that exploded in the 1970s but then dwindled in momentum into the early 1990s. This movement is largely linked to the development of Nuyolatino popular music brought about in part by the mass Latino migration to New York City beginning in the 1950s and the subsequent social movements that were tied to the shifting political landscapes. Defined by its lyrical content alongside specific sonic markers and political and social issues facing U.S. Latinos and Latin Americans, Salsa consciente evokes the overarching cultural-nationalist idea of Latinidad (Latin-ness). Through the analysis of over 120 different Salsa songs from lyrical and musical perspectives that span a period of over sixty years, the author makes the argument that the urban Latino identity expressed in Salsa consciente was constructed largely from diasporic, deterritorialized, and at times imagined cultural memory, and furthermore proposes that the Latino/Latin American identity is in part based on African and Indigenous experience, especially as it relates to Spanish colonialism. A unique study on the intersection of Salsa and Latino and Latin American identity, this volume will be especially interesting to scholars of ethnic studies and musicology alike.

Book excerpt: Listed as a "2009 Indie Next List Poetry Top Ten" book by the American Booksellers Association: Roberto Bolano as he saw himself, in his own first calling as a poet. Roberto Bolano (1953-2003) has caught on like a house on fire, and The Romantic Dogs, a bilingual collection of forty-four poems, offers American readers their first chance to encounter this literary phenomenon as a poet: his own first and strongest literary persona. These poems, wide-ranging in forms and length, have appeared in magazines such as Harper's, Threepenny Review, The Believer, Boston Review, Soft Targets, Tin House, The Nation, Circumference, A Public Space, and Conduit. Bolano's poetic voice is like no other's: "At that time, I'd reached the age of twenty/and I was crazy. /I'd lost a country/but won a dream./Long as I had that dream/nothing else mattered...."
