Book Synopsis Fenomenología criminal y criminología comparada by : Herrero Herrero, César
Download or read book Fenomenología criminal y criminología comparada written by Herrero Herrero, César and published by Librería-Editorial Dykinson. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Social Exclusion and the Criminal Justice System written by Elisa García-España and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the results of the latest in a long-running research project using the RIMES instrument, developed by scholars in Spain. Here, RIMES is used to measure the extent of social exclusion resulting from the penal system in comparative perspective. The volume shows the results of the application of the instrument in seven criminal justice systems: Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, England and Wales, California, and New York. Divided into two parts, the first provides a general overview of the RIMES instrument, including a discussion of the theoretical model and the methodology. The second part focuses on the results of the application of RIMES in the seven jurisdictions. The comparative results are organised according to the nine dimensions included in the RIMES instrument: control of public spaces; legal safeguards; sentencing and sanctions systems; harshest penalties; prison rules; preventive intervention; legal and social status of offenders and ex-offenders; police and criminal records; and youth criminal justice. The last chapter summarizes the comparative results and ranks them in terms of the findings on social exclusion. The book will be of interest to academics, researchers and policy-makers working in the areas of Comparative Criminal Justice, Criminology, Criminal Law and Policy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reader presents fresh insights on the rapidly expanding and changing crime-related problems in the Caribbean as well as provides information on new dimensions of crime and criminology that are occurring with increasing regularity. A path-breaking and comprehensive work, Crime Delinquency and Justice: A Caribbean Reader has come at a time when all societies in the Caribbean region are grappling with crime in all its forms; and when the structure of the justice system on which all these societies are founded is being challenged to adjust to changes in society locally and internationally. The work addresses both theoretical and practical issues indicated by the broad range of areas covered including: Theorizing a Caribbean Criminology; Juvenile Delinquency and Public Policy; Domestic Violence and the Criminal Justice System; Community Policing, Police Styles and Use of Force; Corrections; Crime Statistics; the Jury System; Drug Trafficking; Terrorism, Social Upheaval and Political Violence and Human Trafficking. Much of the contributions are research and data-driven and overall have policy development as their focus. This makes the volume suitable for courses in criminology and criminal justice at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as for specialist courses in various aspects of policing and law enforcement.

Download or read book The Politics Of Pain written by Ronald D Crelinsten and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-11 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although a wave of democratization appears to be sweeping the globe, torture persists in more than seventy-five nations. Despite widespread condemnation of torture and the efforts of international and nongovernmental organizations to end it, the "politics of pain" continues in a broad range of social and political systems. This book is one of the first to systematically examine the psychological, cultural, and social origins of torture. It provides profiles of torturers and of those who direct them in their brutal activities. The contributors provide case studies from the past and present, including Somoza's National Guard in Nicaragua and regimes in the Southern Cone of Latin America and in Greece.

Book Synopsis The Western Codification of Criminal Law by : Aniceto Masferrer
Download or read book The Western Codification of Criminal Law written by Aniceto Masferrer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses an important historiographical gap by assessing the respective contributions of tradition and foreign influences to the 19th century codification of criminal law. More specifically, it focuses on the extent of French influence – among others – in European and American civil law jurisdictions. In this regard, the book seeks to dispel a number of myths concerning the French model’s actual influence on European and Latin American criminal codes. The impact of the Napoleonic criminal code on other jurisdictions was real, but the scope and extent of its influence were significantly less than has sometimes been claimed. The overemphasis on French influence on other civil law jurisdictions is partly due to a fundamental assumption that modern criminal codes constituted a break with the past. The question as to whether they truly broke with the past or were merely a degree of reform touches on a difficult issue, namely, the dichotomy between tradition and foreign influences in the codification of criminal law. Scholarship has unfairly ignored this important subject, an oversight that this book remedies.

Book excerpt: This study is a further contribution of the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) to the Promotion of international comparative research in criminal justice. This is central to the Institute's research mandate. Minimally it is geared towards the collection and presentation of policy experiences from different developmental environments, in particular those from the developing countries, and advancement of comparative thinking and analysis of policy immanence. This comparative perspective is attested by papers presented by national experts describing and analyzing alternative policing experiences from eleven countries: Alaska (USA), Brazil, China, Indonesia, Italy, Northern Ireland, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania and former Yugoslavia.
