A woman seeking help to flee an abusive situation can turn to secular society to direct her to shelters, lawyers, and finances to relieve her fears of finding a place for herself and her children. Churches are aware of domestic violence issues, but many pastors, leaders, and laypersons are not properly trained to minister to victims seeking guidance and support. The purpose for writing this book is to reveal the churches, organizations, and individuals that view domestic violence as an important issue in today's society. They are not only providing victims of abuse with information and resources, but also offer emotional and spiritual support. Dr. Peach Payne holds a B.A. degree from Purdue University, Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel College, and a Doctorate of Ministry and Missions degree from University of Family Bible, Institute, College, and Seminary in Maryland. She was licensed to the work of the Counseling Ministry and ordained as a Christian Educational Specialist. Dr. Payne is also a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor and a Professional Clinical member of the National Christian Counselors Association (NCCA) in Sarasota, Florida. Dr. Payne is presently a member of a multicultural church in Maryland where she has developed a ministry to provide support for those experiencing domestic violence. She is a member of the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence, and each year attends informational meetings given by The Interfaith Domestic Violence Coalition of Maryland. Until the entire church body adopts the "Zero Tolerance" stance and commitment to "Safety First" in pastoral care ministry, the ABIGAILS attending our churches will remain under the VEIL. Abigail's Veil is a resource for clergy and church leaders to use in challenging the religious traditions that hold victims captive in abusive relationships and aids them in securing their freedom and healing. Minister Carolyn J. Thompson is a former attorney who now presides as a judge and serves as an ordained minister.
