This book was released on 2014-01-13 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite efforts made by the international development financing organizations, the structure of intervention through multi-country projects with regional development goals has not been easy to design and implement. One of the reasons is the lack of clarity in the enabling legal framework and tools, both within the client countries as well as the development organizations. Against this backdrop, this study, based essentially on desk research, with limited field consultation, attempts to discuss, primarily from a legal and institutional perspectives, the tools, prospects as well as the opportunities for designing and implementing regional projects, with particular focus on the emerging practice of the World Bank, and with a special reference to the Asia region. The study, comprises an introduction, deals with the general setting, the World Bank approach toward regional projects, the importance of political will and commitment, the general legal structures for regional projects, the uniqueness and challenges for Asia, the prospects and proposals, and provides a brief conclusion.

Download or read book African Yearbook of International Law written by A. A. Yusuf and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 1994-05-27 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "African Yearbook of International Law" provides an intellectual forum for the systematic analysis and scientific dissection of issues of international law as they apply to Africa, as well as Africa's contribution to the progressive development of international law. It contributes to the promotion, acceptance of and respect for the principles of international law, as well as to the encouragement of the teaching, study, dissemination and wider appreciations of international law in Africa. A clear articulation of Africa's views on the various aspects of international law based on the present realities of the continent as well as on Africa's civilization, culture, philosophy and history will undoubtedly contribute to a better understanding among nations. The "African Yearbook of International Law" plays an important role in examining the tensions underlying the State in Africa, and by shedding more light on the causes of the fragility of African State institutions so as to facilitate the identification of appropriate remedies. The tension and interrelationships among issues such as territorial integrity, self determination, ethnic diversity and nation-building are constantly addressed. Development, human rights and democratization in Africa are also the subject of continuous attention and examination. The structure of the first two volumes - consisting of a special theme, individual articles, notes and comments, book reviews and basic documents - will be reflected to the extent possible in future volumes, but will also be constantly improved with the addition of new features and areas of study. The "African Yearbook of International Law" will attract more contributions in the futurefrom African international lawyers currently teaching or practising in Africa. Most of those who have toiled to make the first volume a reality are now working outside the continent. They are, however, all determined to see to it that this intellectual forum will serve first and foremost the teachers and practitioners of international law in Africa.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaluation in recent decades has evolved from a tool for project appraisals to a more widely used framework for public decision-making and operational management. Most evaluation books are focused on traditional tools of analysis such as cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analysis to the neglect of modern tools such as multi-criteria evaluation, social marginal cost of funds analysis, data envelopment analysis, results-oriented management and evaluation and theory based evaluations. This edited volume provides an easily accessible and comprehensive survey of both traditional and modern tools of analysis that are used in the evaluation literature to evaluate public projects, programs, policies and policy analysis and advice. The book will be of interest to students, scholars, researchers, practitioners and policy makers.

Book Synopsis The Development Potential of Regional Programs by : World Bank. Independent Evaluation Group
Download or read book The Development Potential of Regional Programs written by World Bank. Independent Evaluation Group and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need to promote increased trade, prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, and ensure adequate water resources are some of the development challenges generating interest in increased regional and sub-regional cooperation. This evaluation seeks to provide guidance on when it is desirable for the Bank to support activities on a regional level, and assesses the effectiveness of both regional programs and the Banks role in supporting them. It comes at a time of increasing interest in regional development programs, supported by recent theoretical work on regional public goods and regional trading arrangements, and calls from groups in the international development community for the Bank to provide more support for multi-country programs (both global and regional).
