Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive study of the first decade of literary representations of 9/11, moving from Art Spiegelman's In the Shadow of No Towers (2003) to Amy Waldman's The Submission (2012). It traces the way literature has dealt with an event that continues to shape world conflict and resonate prominently in the American imagination, and argues that the corpus of literary fiction discussing 9/11 is characterized by a fundamental sense of conflictedness related to the tensions between trauma or mourning and political imperatives. The work offers in-depth analyses of texts that have historicized 9/11 and shaped the way we understand this key moment in American and world history.

Book excerpt: Trumpets were extremely important in the lives of the people of ancient Israel. Through the use of trumpets God spoke to them, guided them, warned them, and directed them. It was the duty of the priests to sound the trumpets at the appropriate times. But sometimes God Himself spoke to them directly, such as at Mt. Sinai, when in awful and terrifying grandeur the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder as the mighty God of heaven descended in fire, and the mountain trembled violently. This spectacular demonstration was to prepare the hearts of the people to receive with reverence and awe the pronouncement of His holy ten commandment law (Ex. 19:16 – 20:21). In fact, trumpets were often connected with the law and the ark of the covenant, which contained it. Priests blowing trumpets were to precede and accompany the ark whenever it was transported. An example of this is found in Joshua 6:1-20, where 7 priests blowing 7 trumpets marched before the ark around the city of Jericho for 7 days, and on the seventh day they blew the trumpets 7 times, and as the people shouted, the walls of the city collapsed. Is the God of heaven any less zealous for His sacred law today than He was in ancient times? Could it be that even now in our day He is allowing trumpets to blow to warn of the impending collapse of the cities of the nations, which are so filled with crime and corruption? Will He not rise from His throne and oversee the final dispensation of justice upon a world, which is careening toward self-destruction? Read the pages of this book and discover the meaning of the extraordinary events that have been happening since the turn of the century, and find the way into the safety of God’s pavilion.

Book excerpt: "Bakalian and Bozorgmehr provide a comprehensive account of the processes by which certain American religious and ethnic groups were transformed into scapegoats and objects of hate."—Herbert J. Gans, Robert S. Lynd Emeritus Professor of Sociology, Columbia University "The recent history of the United States has taken many strange, unexpected turns, not least of which was the way in which the tragedy of 9/11/2001 triggered a backlash against the Middle Easterners living in the United States, which, in turn, pushed this population into activism and transforming them into full Americans. Bakalian and Bozorgmehr's humane and beautifully written book is the essential window into this process, providing a fascinating, original account of an important aspect of contemporary American life."—Roger Waldinger, Distinguished Professor of Sociology, University of California, Los Angeles "This is the first truly comprehensive look at the challenges faced by the Middle Eastern and Muslim American organizations defending the rights and liberties of their constituents in the aftermath of 9/11."—Muzaffar Chishti, Director, Migration Policy Institute Office at New York University School of Law "Bakalian and Bozorgmehr cast the post-9/11 backlash unleashed by American society and government against Muslims and Arab-Americans in a comparative historical perspective. This indispensable work concludes, somewhat unexpectedly, that rather than foster alienation, the backlash prompted a mobilization of the targeted groups to seek greater integration in American society."—Aristide Zolberg, Walter Eberstadt Professor of Political Science, New School University “Bakalian and Bozorgmehr have captured the untold story of how the tragedy of 9/11 altered the landscape for Middle Eastern communities in America. The quality and scope of this research not only documents a critical chapter in our nation's struggle with tolerance and racial profiling, it brings to light the deep impact the backlash continues to have on the ethnic and religious institutions that serve the affected populations. It is a thorough and timely chronicle of the internal and external challenges to American pluralism during the ongoing 'war on terror'.”—Helen Samhan, Executive Director, Arab American Institute Foundation

Book excerpt: This enlightening book focuses on the history of how the ethnic groups of Africa, eventually joined by white colonizers from Europe, created the seedbed for the hateful apartheid system in Southern Africa. The reader learns how apartheid began, the dehumanizing effects it had on the black population, and how it was finally abolished in its ‘zero hour’ in 1994. Written by historian, writer and researcher Geoffrey Hebdon, this is the second in a series that covers the experience of a British citizen who emigrated to South Africa during that era, and records in vivid detail his responses to the apartheid system and how South Africa and neighbouring countries evolved after apartheid was abolished. As well as the first European settlers and the white Afrikaners’ attempted enslavement of the black population, the book also covers the Zulu wars, the Anglo-Boer wars and individuals who supported apartheid such as Cecil Rhodes and the whites-only National Party of South Africa. Also covered are prominent leaders of the African National Congress (ANC) and the black revolutionaries who fought against apartheid, many of whom gave their lives or served life sentences for their “struggle”, including Nelson Mandela, who became South Africa’s first black president after serving years in prison.

Thus with mathematics you can predict the future! The forecasts of Washington, Daniel, Ezekiel, Jesus and other prophets are arranged in a specifically dated timeline and the future of America is laid out in stunning detail. America is at a turning point. Most Americans will not live to see 2024 will you? The guideposts are contained herein. The families that own the Federal Reserve are the same families that nearly one hundred years ago inflated the German mark to worthlessness. The result was WWII and the destruction of Germany. The USA shall suffer the same fate. The dollar will collapse, WWIII will break out and the US government will collapse and be destroyed. The truth God told George Washington via an Angel at Valley Forge was that later America will rise from the ashes of this war and that America’s Victory is guaranteed.

Book excerpt: 3797 Countdown is a story filled with controversy. It is a story about three friends, one of whom thinks he may have found answers to some of the prophecies about the end of the world. As the three high school friends reunite, a conversation begins where one of them explains how the end-times prophecies are being fulfilled. He thinks we are already in Armageddon and the Great War is just around the corner. As the story unfolds, he weaves together predictions from different sources to try to explain recent and future events; and to what end they might be leading to. The information comes from ancient and not-so-ancient writings: from the Bible to Nostradamus, from the Aztecs and Mayans to Edgar Cayce, from the Hindus to the Fatima visions, from Astrology and Numerology to Astronomy and Astrophysics; and connects some of the prophecies to actual news reports. It is bold, shocking and offensive. It may incite fear in some readers and anger in others but may also inspire hope in a few.
