If there were a lucrative opportunity that allowed you to be your own boss, make income in the six-figure range, work flexible hours, and required little money up front, would you be interested? That is the question James Darle Jones asks in his groundbreaking how-to business guide for owning and operating a credit/debit card processing sales business. Detailing the perfect business for entrepreneurs looking for an opportunity to change their lives and earn a piece of the American Dream, Cornucopia of Cash: How to Profit from the Billion Dollar Credit Card Processing Business will start you on your way to a lucrative business whose only limit is that of your imagination. New for 2015 $Free Business Consulting! You're going to have questions and we will be there for you every step of the way and my phone# is in the book. When you go to your local auto mechanic and offer them a credit or debit card for payment what happens? Well they take your card, swipe it through the terminal, then they will turn it over to view the signature strip, ask you to sign a receipt, match the signatures and assuming they match you go on your way. If the signatures don't match, the merchant has the option to ask you for ID. When they swiped your card for payment, the information was sent at the speed of light though the card-issuing bank and the merchant-acquiring bank networks and then back to the merchant where the receipt prints for your signature. At the end of the day when the merchant batches out the money is finally on its way to the merchant's bank account. The fees for the transaction are either taken on the fly or deducted at the end of the month, which is the preferred method of most merchants. The money will then be directly deposited into the merchant's bank account in as little as one business day or as long as two or three. At the end of the month where does all the money go? The lion's share obviously goes to the merchant. The biggest portion of the merchant cost goes to "interchange" which is the main cost before the markup. Interchange goes to the card company of the card that was swiped. That's right, folks: Credit card companies get you coming and going. They're making money on the merchants who accept the card and they're making money on the cardholder. How about that for a business model! But wait, there's more. Most of the markup goes to the processor, the independent sales organization (ISO) or even the merchant level sales rep (MLS), and, believe it or not, for the most part, the card brands make the smallest portion of the pie although they take a bite of every piece! So, you ask yourself, how can I cut myself in on all of this coinage? Author James Darle Jones reveals the truth behind this lucrative business and shows you all you need to know to turn his knowledge into cash.Jones starts by teaching how the credit card and payment processing business works. From what happens when you present your card for payment to the types of equipment used, you will understand the process from A to Z. He then gives you the knowledge you need to go out and sell payment processing and start making money fast-even going so far as to include a business plan to get you started. You supply the hard work and dedication, and he will do the rest! Using the same method Jones used to create his own successful business, you will learn such essential secrets and tools as: How to find new businesses before the other guy, How to approach banks for partnerships, The most important part of a bancard contract, Why leasing is still an important part of your revenue equation, The incredible income opportunity presented by cash advance, Why the natural conclusion to your sales presentation is buying from you, How B2B companies can offer credit card acceptance and add hundreds of thousands to their bottom line*OUR NEW TRAINING PROGRAM AND SALES SUPPORT MAKES IT EASY TO GET STARTED*

Book excerpt: What is money, where does it come from, and who controls it? In this accessible, brilliantly argued book, leading political economist Ann Pettifor explains in straightforward terms history’s most misunderstood invention: the money system. Pettifor argues that democracies can, and indeed must, reclaim control over money production and restrain the out-of-control finance sector so that it serves the interests of society, as well as the needs of the ecosystem. The Production of Money examines and assesses popular alternative debates on, and innovations in, money, such as “green QE” and “helicopter money.” She sets out the possibility of linking the money in our pockets (or on our smartphones) to the improvements we want to see in the world around us.

Book excerpt: From We Need Diverse Books, the organization behind Flying Lessons & Other Stories, comes another middle-grade short story collection--this one focused on exploring acts of bravery--featuring some of the best own-voices children's authors, including R. J. Palacio (Wonder), Rita Williams-Garcia (One Crazy Summer), Linda Sue Park (A Long Walk to Water), and many more. Not all heroes wear capes. Some heroes teach martial arts. Others talk to ghosts. A few are inventors or soccer players. They're also sisters, neighbors, and friends. Because heroes come in many shapes and sizes. But they all have one thing in common: they make the world a better place. Published in partnership with We Need Diverse Books, this vibrant anthology features thirteen acclaimed authors whose powerful and diverse voices show how small acts of kindness can save the day. So pay attention, because a hero could be right beside you. Or maybe the hero is you. AUTHORS INCLUDE: William Alexander, Joseph Bruchac, Lamar Giles, Mike Jung, Hena Khan, Juana Medina, Ellen Oh, R. J. Palacio, Linda Sue Park and Anna Dobbin, Cynthia Leitich Smith, Ronald L. Smith, Rita Williams-Garcia, and short-story contest winner Suma Subramaniam “As with the two previous anthologies from We Need Diverse Books, this collection admirably succeeds in making available to all readers a wider and more representative range of American voices and protagonists.” -The Washington Post

Book excerpt: The People vs. Big Oil—how a working-class company town harnessed the power of local politics to reclaim their community With a foreword by Bernie Sanders Home to one of the largest oil refineries in the state, Richmond, California, was once a typical company town, dominated by Chevron. This largely nonwhite, working-class city of 100,000 suffered from poverty, pollution, and poorly funded public services. It had one of the highest homicide rates per capita in the country and a jobless rate twice the national average. But when veteran labor reporter Steve Early moved from New England to Richmond in 2012, he discovered a city struggling to remake itself. In Refinery Town, Early chronicles the 15 years of successful community organizing that raised the local minimum wage, defeated a casino development project, challenged home foreclosures and evictions, and sought fair taxation of Big Oil. A short list of Richmond’s activist residents helps to propel this compelling chronicle: • 94 year old Betty Reid Soskin, the country’s oldest full-time national park ranger and witness to Richmond’s complex history • Gayle McLaughlin, the Green Party mayor who challenged Chevron and won • Police Chief Chris Magnus, who brought community policing to Richmond and is now one of America’s leading public safety reformers Part urban history, part call to action, Refinery Town shows how concerned citizens can harness the power of local politics to reclaim their community and make municipal government a source of much-needed policy innovation. “Refinery Town provides an inside look at how one American city has made radical and progressive change seem not only possible but sensible.”—David Helvarg, The Progressive

Book excerpt: From one of Sweden’s most successful defense lawyers comes an unflinching look at Stockholm’s underworld, told from the perspective of the mob bosses, the patsies, and the thugs who help operate its twisted justice system. JW is a student having trouble keeping up appearances in the rich party crowd he has involved himself with. He’s desperate for money, and when he’s offered a job dealing drugs to the very crowd he’s vying for a place in, he accepts it. Meanwhile, Jorge, a young Latino drug dealer, has just broken out of jail and is itching for revenge. When JW’s supplier gets wind of Jorge’s escape, he suggests JW track him down and attempt to win his trust in order to cover more area in the drug circuit. But JW’s not the only one on Jorge’s trail: Mrado, the brutal muscle behind the Yugoslavian mob boss whose goons were the ones who ratted Jorge out to the cops, is also on the hunt. But like everyone else, he’s tired of being a mere pawn in an impossibly risky game, and he’s seeking to carve out a niche of his own. As the paths of these antiheroes intertwine further, they find themselves mercilessly pitted against one another in a world where allegiances are hard-won, revenge is hard-fought, and a way out of it all is even harder to come by. Fast and intricately paced, and with pitch-perfect dialogue, Easy Money is a raw, dark, and intelligent crime novel that has catapulted Jens Lapidus into the company of Sweden’s most acclaimed crime writers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Real Politics of the Horn of Africa delves into the business of politics in the turbulent, war-torn countries of north-east Africa. It is a contemporary history of how politicians, generals and insurgents bargain over money and power, and use of war to achieve their goals. Drawing on a thirty-year career in Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia, including experience as a participant in high-level peace talks, Alex de Waal provides a unique and compelling account of how these countries’ leaders run their governments, conduct their business, fight their wars and, occasionally, make peace. De Waal shows how leaders operate on a business model, securing funds for their ‘political budgets’ which they use to rent the provisional allegiances of army officers, militia commanders, tribal chiefs and party officials at the going rate. This political marketplace is eroding the institutions of government and reversing statebuildingÑand it is fuelled in large part by oil exports, aid funds and western military assistance for counter-terrorism and peacekeeping. The Real Politics of the Horn of Africa is a sharp and disturbing book with profound implications for international relations, development and peacemaking in the Horn of Africa and beyond.
