Book excerpt: Nous avons réalisé un appareil permettant la mesure précise des débits pulsés et à régime d'écoulement variable, tels qu’on les rencontre dans la circulation sanguine. La méthode utilise la différence des temps de transit, fonction du débit, de deux ondes ultrasonores de fréquence légèrement différentes qui se propagent en sens inverse et simultanément dans le vaisseau. Cette différence de temps de transit est convertie en une différence de phase entre deux tensions de basse fréquence. L'étude de la propagation des ondes dans les fluides nous a permis de préciser la relation entre la différence de phase et la vitesse du liquide lorsqu'on utilise des ondes ultrasonores à symétrie cylindrique. Nous avons montré que cette relation est indépendante de la structure de l'onde, ainsi que des dimensions et des propriétés élastiques du vaisseau. Cette étude laisse prévoir une relation linéaire entre la phase et la vitesse de débit, lorsque la répartition des vitesses n’est pas uniforme. Nous avons montré que l'émission et la réception simultanée de telles ondes peuvent être obtenues en utilisant une sonde débitmétrique composée de deux céramiques piézoélectriques en forme d'anneaux fendus entourant le vaisseau. La réalisation des circuits électroniques de l'appareil a nécessité un soin particulier de façon à minimiser la variation des déphasages parasites introduits et permettre une mesure précise de petits déphasages. Malgré l'utilisation d'une boucle d'asservissement de phase, l'appareil présente encore une dérive gênante pendant les deux premières heures de fonctionnement. Nous avons suggéré une solution qui permettrait d'une part d'annuler cette dérive, et d'autre part d'obtenir une référence de zéro sans clampage du vaisseau. Les résultats expérimentaux obtenus soit avec des débits continus, soit avec des débits pulsés, ont montré que la tension de sortie de l'appareil est une fonction linéaire de la vitesse de débit, indépendante du régime d'écoulement. La mesure du débit sanguin chez l'animal a fourni des résultats très satisfaisants. Cette méthode permet la mesure des débits de tous les liquides, et nécessite une très faible énergie ultrasonore.
