Nous constatons que l'autonomie oro-manuelle coïncide avec l'apparition de la marche et l'autonomie du langage. Les mouvements se coordonnent suivant des patterns relativement fixes qui débordent largement la zone oro-faciale. La position céphalique, les yeux, la main, la bouche interviennent pour la réalisation de ce comportement. Le concept comportemental constitue un abord objectif des problèmes physiologiques et pathologiques de la sphère oro-faciale en intégrant celle-ci à la totalité de l'organisme.
