Book excerpt: L'ISOMERISATION DES N-BUTENES EN ISOBUTENE EST REALISEE AU CONTACT DE CATALYSEURS SOLIDES TELS QUE LES ALUMINES OU SILICE-ALUMINES. APRES OPTIMISATION DES CONDITIONS OPERATOIRES (450C), NOUS AVONS ETABLI UN MODELE CINETIQUE POUR CETTE REACTION ET CARACTERISE CHAQUE ETAPE PAR UNE CONSTANTE DE VITESSE. 1) QUEL QUE SOIT LE BUTENE LINEAIRE DE DEPART, TOUTES LES ETAPES D'ISOMERISATION SONT DU PREMIER ORDRE. 2) LA MIGRATION DE LA DOUBLE LIAISON ET L'ISOMERISATION CIS-TRANS ONT LES VITESSES LES PLUS ELEVEES. 3) LES CONSTANTES CARACTERISANT L'ISOMERISATION SQUELETTALE SONT DE 5 A 10 FOIS PLUS FAIBLES QUE LES PRECEDENTES, ET MONTRENT QUE L'ISOBUTENE NE SE FORME QU'A PARTIR DES BUTENES-2. 4) CEPENDANT LA FORMATION DE SOUS-PRODUITS RESULTE DE PROCESSUS BIMOLECULAIRES QUI ENTRAINENT UNE BAISSE IMPORTANTE DE LA SELECTIVITE DES CATALYSEURS LES PLUS ACTIFS. 5) LES TROIS PROCESSUS SE DESACTIVENT AVEC DES VITESSES DIFFERENTES. CES RESULTATS PERMETTENT DE PREVOIR LA REPARTITION DES PRODUITS EN FONCTION DE L'AGE DU CATALYSEUR. LES CATALYSEURS LES PLUS ACTIFS SONT LES SILICE-ALUMINES, MAIS ILS SONT PEU SELECTIFS ET AUCUN AJOUT NE LES AMELIORE. LA MEILLEURE SELECTIVITE DES ALUMINES, ENCORE ACCRUE PAR L'AJOUT DE FLUORURE EST DUE AU FAIT QUE LEUR VITESSE D'ISOMERISATION SQUELETTALE EST PLUS ELEVEE RELATIVEMENT AUX ISOMERISATIONS DE DOUBLE LIAISON ET A LA METATHESE. UN FAIBLE AJOUT DE SULFATE AMELIORE LEUR STABILITE

Book excerpt: NOTRE TRAVAIL A ETE CONSACRE A L'ETUDE DE L'ISOMERISATION SQUELLETALE DU BUTENE SUR DES ZEOLITES A PORES MOYENS (FERRERITE, ZSM-23, ETC.). PLUS PRECISEMENT, NOUS NOUS SOMMES ATTACHES A REPONDRE AUX QUESTIONS SUIVANTES : PAR QUEL MECANISME LE BUTENE EST-IL SELECTIVEMENT TRANSFORME EN ISOBUTENE, QUELLE EST LA NATURE DU SITE ACTIF ET QUELLES SONT LES CONDITIONS REQUISES POUR AVOIR UN CATALYSEUR SELECTIF. NOUS AVONS MONTRE QUE LE BUTENE EST SELECTIVEMENT TRANSFORME EN ISOBUTENE VIA UNE REACTION MONOMOLECULAIRE ET UN INTERMEDIAIRE METHYL-CYCLOPROPANIQUE ET NON PAS, COMME CELA ETAIT PROPOSE VIA UN MECANISME BIMOLECULAIRE. NOUS AVONS ETABLI QUE LE SITE ACTIF EST UN PROTON : CE PROTON N'EST SELECTIF QUE SI UNE CONTRAINTE SPATIALE EXISTE ET QUI INTERDIT LA FORMATION DE L'INTERMEDIAIRE OLEFINIQUE EN C8. CETTE CONTRAINTE SPATIALE (OU SELECTIVITE DE FORME) EST REALISABLE DANS LA POROSITE DE LA FER SOIT EN ECHANGEANT UNE PARTIE DES PROTONS AVEC DES IONS VOLUMINEUX TELS CS#+, SOIT EN DEPOSANT DU CARBONE (COKE) DANS LES CAVITES DE LA ZEOLITE AU COURS DU VIEILLISSEMENT SOUS REACTIF, SOIT EN ENCOMBRANT PARTIELLEMENT LES CAVITES EN EXTRAYANT DE L'ALUMINIUM DU RESEAU ZEOLITIQUE. NOUS AVONS GENERALISE NOS CONCLUSION A D'AUTRES MATERIAUX A POROSITE MOYENNE TELS LES ZSM-23 OU LES SILICO-ALUMINO-PHOSPHATES (SAPO-11 ET MEA1PO-11) ET NOUS AVONS MONTRE QUE LE CATALYSEUR D'ISOMERISATION SELECTIVE DU BUTENE EN ISOBUTENE ETAIT D'AUTANT PLUS SELECTIF QUE LA POROSITE EST ETROITE.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most current guide to solid state polymerization Solid State Polymerization (SSP)is an indispensable tool in the design, manufacture, and study of polymers, plastics, and fibers. SSP presents significant advantages over other polymerization techniques due to low operating temperatures, inexpensive equipment, and simple and environmentally sound procedures. Combining fundamentals of polymer science, chemistry, physical chemistry, and engineering, SSP also offers many research applications for a wide range of students and investigators. Gathering and filtering the latest literature on SSP, Solid Solid State Polymerization offers a unique, one-stop resource on this important process. With chapters contributed by leaders in the field, this text summarizes SSP, and provides essential coverage that includes: An introduction to SSP, with chemical and physical steps, apparatus, advantages, and parameters SSP physical chemistry and mechanisms Kinetic aspects of polyesters and polyamides SSP Catalysis in SSP processes Application of SSP under high pressure conditions in the laboratory Engineering aspects regarding process modeling and industrial application Recent developments and future possibilities Solid State Polymerization provides the most up-to-date coverage of this constantly developing field to academic and industry professionals, as well as graduate and postgraduate-level students in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, polymer chemistry, polymer processing and polymer engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several decades, polymer science has sought to rationalize the mechanical and thermodynamic properties of polymer networks largely within the framework of statistical thermodynamics. Much of this effort has been directed toward the rubbery rather than the glassy state. It is generally assumed that networks possess an av erage composition to which average properties may be assigned; from such a continuum view, a powerful analysis of such properties as modulus, swelling, birefringence and thermoelasticity has emerged. In the years following the rise of polymer characterization (the late 40's and early 50's), many scientists began to study ap parent relations between the properties of linear polymer molecules and the networks obtainable therefrom. This search was also stimu lated by the wide range of applications of polymer networks in com mercial elastomers, thermosets and coatings. Frequently, these data were confidently matched with curves obtained from statisti cally describable models of networks of ghost chains, uniformly distributed in space. More recently, it has become apparent that polymer chains in networks are not as ideal as assumed in the formulation of statis tical models, and there has been a shift in emphasis towards the less than ideal, perturbed and possibly inhomogeneous networks which are more frequently encountered in practice. The continuum approach, however, had to be developed before inhomogeneous systems could be described; the present volume, therefore, contains both views.
