Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CE TRAVAIL A CONSISTE A ETUDIER LES TRANSITIONS DE PHASE STRUCTURALES DANS LA SOLUTION SOLIDE P(CH#3)#4#2(CUCL#4)#1##X(CUBR#4)#X DONT LES SEQUENCES DE PHASE SONT PILOTEES PAR DEUX PARAMETRES D'ORDRE DIFFERENTS. LE GROUPE D'ESPACE DE LA PHASE HAUTE TEMPERATURE EST PNMA. LE PREMIER PARAMETRE D'ORDRE CORRESPOND AU COMPOSE PUR CHLORE P(CH#3)#4#2(CUCL#4) POUR LEQUEL L'INSTABILITE SE DEVELOPPE DANS LA DIRECTION CRISTALLOGRAPHIQUE A (DONNANT UNE PHASE INCOMMENSURABLE SUIVIE A BASSE TEMPERATURE PAR UNE PHASE COMMENSURABLE AVEC Q=A*/3), TANDIS QUE L'AUTRE PARAMETRE D'ORDRE CORRESPOND AU COMPOSE BROME PUR P(CH#3)#4#2CUBR#4 OU L'INSTABILITE SE DEVELOPPE DANS LA DIRECTION C. DANS LA SOLUTION SOLIDE LE COUPLAGE ENTRE LES DEUX PARAMETRES D'ORDRE PEUT CONDUIRE A UNE SEQUENCE DE TRANSITIONS DU TYPE BR A HAUTE TEMPERATURE ET DU TYPE CL A BASSE TEMPERATURE DANS UN CERTAIN DOMAINE DE COMPOSITION X. NOUS AVONS PLUS PARTICULIEREMENT TRAVAILLE SUR LE COMPOSE X=0.125. SA SEQUENCE DE TRANSITIONS MONTRE PLUSIEURS PHENOMENES INTERESSANTS QUI RESULTENT DU COUPLAGE ENTRE LES DEUX PARAMETRES D'ORDRE, NOTAMMENT UNE FACE DOUBLEMENT MODULEE (DANS LES DEUX DIRECTIONS A ET C SIMULTANEMENT) ET UN COMPORTEMENT RE-ENTRANT DU PARAMETRE D'ORDRE DU TYPE BR. UN MODELE D'INTERPRETATION DES SEQUENCES DE PHASE DES COMPOSES PURS ET DE LA SOLUTION SOLIDE DANS LE CADRE DE LA THEORIE PHENOMENOLOGIQUE DE LANDAU EST PROPOSE DANS LE CHAPITRE V. CE MODELE PERMET DE PREVOIR LES PHASES INCOMMENSURABLES, LES GROUPES D'ESPACE DES PHASES COMMENSURABLES ET IL EXPLIQUE EN PARTICULIER LE PHENOMENE DE SYMETRIE RE-ENTRANTE OBSERVE DANS LA SOLUTION SOLIDE
Book Synopsis Précis of the Lectures on Architecture by : Jean-Nicolas-Louis Durand
Download or read book Précis of the Lectures on Architecture written by Jean-Nicolas-Louis Durand and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jean-Nicolas-Louis Durand (1760–1834) regarded the Précis of the Lectures on Architecture (1802–5) and its companion volume, the Graphic Portion (1821), as both a basic course for future civil engineers and a treatise. Focusing the practice of architecture on utilitarian and economic values, he assailed the rationale behind classical architectural training: beauty, proportionality, and symbolism. His formal systematization of plans, elevations, and sections transformed architectural design into a selective modular typology in which symmetry and simple geometrical forms prevailed. His emphasis on pragmatic values, to the exclusion of metaphysical concerns, represented architecture as a closed system that subjected its own formal language to logical processes. Now published in English for the first time, the Précis and the Graphic Portion are classics of architectural education.
Book Synopsis Africa from the Sixteenth to the Eighteenth Century by : Bethwell A. Ogot
Download or read book Africa from the Sixteenth to the Eighteenth Century written by Bethwell A. Ogot and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 1088 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The result of years of work by scholars from all over the world, The UNESCO General History of Africa reflects how the different peoples of Africa view their civilizations and shows the historical relationships between the various parts of the continent. Historical connections with other continents demonstrate Africa's contribution to the development of human civilization. Each volume is lavishly illustrated and contains a comprehensive bibliography. This fifth volume of the acclaimed series covers the history of the continent from the beginning of the sixteenth century to the close of the eighteenth century in which two themes emerge: first, the continuing internal evolution of the states and cultures of Africa during this period second, the increasing involvement of Africa in external trade--with major but unforeseen consequences for the whole world. In North Africa, we see the Ottomans conquer Egypt. South of the Sahara, some of the larger, older states collapse, and new power bases emerge. Traditional religions continue to coexist with both Christianity (suffering setbacks) and Islam (in the ascendancy). Along the coast, particularly of West Africa, Europeans establish a trading network which, with the development of New World plantation agriculture, becomes the focus of the international slave trade. The immediate consequences of this trade for Africa are explored, and it is argued that the long-term global consequences include the foundation of the present world-economy with all its built-in inequalities.

Book excerpt: Earthen architecture constitutes one of the most diverse forms of cultural heritage and one of the most challenging to preserve. It dates from all periods and is found on all continents but is particularly prevalent in Africa, where it has been a building tradition for centuries. Sites range from ancestral cities in Mali to the palaces of Abomey in Benin, from monuments and mosques in Iran and Buddhist temples on the Silk Road to Spanish missions in California. This volume's sixty-four papers address such themes as earthen architecture in Mali, the conservation of living sites, local knowledge systems and intangible aspects, seismic and other natural forces, the conservation and management of archaeological sites, research advances, and training.
