Book Synopsis Equilibrium and Transfer in Porous Media 3 by : Jean-François Daïan
Download or read book Equilibrium and Transfer in Porous Media 3 written by Jean-François Daïan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-04-16 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equilibrium and Transfer in Porous Media 3 A porous medium is composed of a solid matrix and its geometrical complement: the pore space. This pore space can be occupied by one or more fluids. The understanding of transport phenomena in porous media is a challenging intellectual task. This book provides a detailed analysis of the aspects required for the understanding of many experimental techniques in the field of porous media transport phenomena. It is aimed at students or engineers who may not be looking specifically to become theoreticians in porous media, but wish to integrate knowledge of porous media with their previous scientific culture, or who may have encountered them when dealing with a technological problem. While avoiding the details of the more mathematical and abstract developments of the theories of macroscopization, the author gives as accurate and rigorous an idea as possible of the methods used to establish the major laws of macroscopic behavior in porous media. He also illustrates the constitutive laws and equations by demonstrating some of their classical applications. The priority is to put the constitutive laws in concrete circumstances without going into technical detail. This third volume in the three-volume series focuses on the applications of isothermal transport and coupled transfers in porous media.

Book Synopsis Groundwater Hydraulics and Pollutant Transport by : Randall J. Charbeneau
Download or read book Groundwater Hydraulics and Pollutant Transport written by Randall J. Charbeneau and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2006-09-08 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This rigorous and comprehensive text provides fundamental information geared to students in either engineering or natural sciences courses dealing with groundwater. The first four chapters consider subsurface fluid flow, while the remaining twelve chapters cover subsurface contamination and pollutant transport. Charbeneau views the application of groundwater hydraulics and pollutant transport as a quantitative field. Although quantitative methods are exact, the fields of study are usually homogeneous; laboratory and field methods provide estimates for ideal (not real) fields. What impact does the use of ideal fields have on model predictions? The unknown answer places the study of subsurface flow of water and chemical mass transport in a prime position for continued researchand this readily accessible text opens the door to that research. Outstanding features include: Comprehensive, rigorous, and highly accessible coverageIncludes information on groundwater flow, well hydraulics, field methods for parameter estimation, hydrologic relationships between surface water and groundwater hydrology, mass transport of contaminants by advection, diffusion and dispersion, and special problems posed by nonaqueous phase liquids (oils). Strong focus on applicationsEmpowers readers with knowledge and methodologies that they can use in real, day-to-day practices. Includes 66 worked examples and 178 problems integrated throughout. Examination of standard software being used in the industry todayExposes readers to the USGS MODFLOW model (the most widely used numerical simulation model for groundwater flow) and the USGS MOC3D. These models, together with a user interface (MFI), can be downloaded from the Internet.

Book Synopsis Subsurface-Water Hydrology by : Vijay Singh
Download or read book Subsurface-Water Hydrology written by Vijay Singh and published by Springer. This book was released on 1995-12-31 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water is vital to life, maintenance of ecological balance, economic development, and sustenance of civilization. Planning and management of water resources and its optimal use are a matter of urgency for most countries of the world, and even more so for India with a huge population. Growing population and expanding economic activities exert increasing demands on water for varied needs--domestic, industrial, agricultural, power generation, navigation, recreation, etc. In India, agriculture is the highest user of water. The past three decades have witnessed numerous advances as well as have presented intriguing challenges and exciting opportunities in hydrology and water resources. Compounding them has been the growing environmental consciousness. Nowhere are these challenges more apparent than in India. As we approach the twenty first century, it is entirely fitting to take stock of what has been accomplished and what remains to be accomplished, and what accomplishments are relevant, with particular reference to Indian conditions.
