Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the CRM Conference Series is based on a carefully refereed selection of contributions presented at the "11th International Symposium on Quantum Theory and Symmetries", held in Montreal, Canada from July 1-5, 2019. The main objective of the meeting was to share and make accessible new research and recent results in several branches of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics, including Algebraic Methods, Condensed Matter Physics, Cosmology and Gravitation, Integrability, Non-perturbative Quantum Field Theory, Particle Physics, Quantum Computing and Quantum Information Theory, and String/ADS-CFT. There was also a special session in honour of Decio Levi. The volume is divided into sections corresponding to the sessions held during the symposium, allowing the reader to appreciate both the homogeneity and the diversity of mathematical tools that have been applied in these subject areas. Several of the plenary speakers, who are internationally recognized experts in their fields, have contributed reviews of the main topics to complement the original contributions. .

Book Synopsis Supraconductivité by : Philippe Mangin
Download or read book Supraconductivité written by Philippe Mangin and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Vortex Dynamics Theories and Applications by : Zambri Harun
Download or read book Vortex Dynamics Theories and Applications written by Zambri Harun and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-12-09 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book comprises of different areas in which vortex dynamics is important, its generation, evolution, interactions with other motions, and finally the ways it can be controlled. Vortex characteristics are important in many aspects of our lives, from blood circulation in the arteries to the high-speed jet. Flow control and manipulation of vortices have been used to reduce drag for large tankers resulting in billions of dollars in savings. An effective smoke management system must be put in place for critical areas to ensure the safety of people, for example in a very large shopping complex or a large airport. Advanced computational and cloud-computing facilities have contributed significantly to large-scale simulation projects. Therefore, validations could be performed for larger windows of study so that it can now cover the entire e.g. central business district (CBD) for urban heat island (UHI) study or land-ocean interactions.

Book Synopsis Liutex and Third Generation of Vortex Definition and Identification by : Chaoqun Liu
Download or read book Liutex and Third Generation of Vortex Definition and Identification written by Chaoqun Liu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2021-07-27 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects papers presented in the Invited Workshop, “Liutex and Third Generation of Vortex Definition and Identification for Turbulence,” from CHAOS2020, June 9-12, 2020, which was held online as a virtual conference. Liutex is a new physical quantity introduced by Prof. Chaoqun Liu of the University of Texas at Arlington. It is a vector and could give a unique and accurate mathematical definition for fluid rotation or vortex. The papers in this volume include some Liutex theories and many applications in hydrodynamics, aerodynamics and thermal dynamics including turbine machinery. As vortex exists everywhere in the universe, a mathematical definition of vortex or Liutex will play a critical role in scientific research. There is almost no place without vortex in fluid dynamics. As a projection, the Liutex theory will play an important role on the investigations of the vortex dynamics in hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, oceanography, meteorology, metallurgy, civil engineering, astronomy, biology, etc. and to the researches of the generation, sustenance, modelling and controlling of turbulence.
Book Synopsis Topics in the Theory of Small Josephson Junctions and Layered Superconductors by : Wissam Abdo Al-Saidi
Download or read book Topics in the Theory of Small Josephson Junctions and Layered Superconductors written by Wissam Abdo Al-Saidi and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Small Josephson junctions are fascinating quantum systems with numerous potential applications, especially in the still infant field of quantum computation. In the first part of the thesis, I have studied some of the quantum aspects of these systems. Specifically, I have investigated their interactions with a resonant cavity, the Berry phase of a superconducting nanocircuit, and some properties of small Josephson junction arrays. I found that at specific values of the gate voltage of a Cooper pair box, there will be a strong coupling between the Josephson junction and the cavity mode; in this case the junction behaves as a two level atom. I also, verified that if there are N identical junctions in the cavity and are tuned on resonance, the cavity-junction interaction is enhanced by a factor [square root sign]N. This behavior is a clear sign of a cooperative phenomena. Also I found that if a Josephson junction is on resonance with one of the modes of a two-mode cavity, there will be a coupling between the two modes and ultimately a frequency-up or down conversion. I have also studied the spin-wave-like excitations of a disordered two and three dimensional array of small Josephson junctions. I consider a simple form of diagonal disorder and solve for the spin-wave spectral functions using the coherent potential approximation. Finally, using quantum Monte Carlo techniques, I have constructed the phase diagram of a disordered two dimensional array of small Josephson junctions. In the second part of the thesis, I have studied the dynamics of vortices in a clean layered high-temperature superconductor. I found that the c-axis conductivity at nonzero frequencies shows a strong but not divergent increase as the vortex lattice freezing temperature is approached from above, followed by an apparently discontinuous drop. The discontinuity is consistent with the occurrence of a first-order freezing of the vortex lattice. The calculated equilibrium properties agree with previous Monte Carlo studies of the system.
