Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together information widely distributed throughout scientific and industrial journals, here is an overview of the chemical consititution and properties of clay minerals and the environmental conditions that lead to their formation. Provides a detailed picture of the chemical consititution of the eight main groups of clay minerals containing silica and of the non-siliceous oxide clays. The central section of the book deals with the properties of clays: their colloidal behavior, cation exchange, interaction with water, reactions on heating, catalytic properties, and reactions with organic compounds. Also discusses the chemical conditions that favor the formation of clays and their evolution or decomposition into other materials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first works introducing the aluminum intercalated clay family in the early 1970s, interest in the synthesis of pillared interlayered clays has increased tremendously, especially research into the properties and applications of new synthesis methods. The need for solids that could be used as cracking catalysts with larger pores than zeolitic materials has spurred the synthesis of new porous materials from clays. Pillared Clays and Related Catalysts reviews the properties and applications of pillared clays and other layered materials used as catalysts, focusing on: the acidity of pillared clays and the effect it has on catalytic performance the use of pillared clays as supports for catalytically active phases, and the use of the resulting solids in environmentally friendly reactions the applications of the selective reduction of NOx the comparison between the reactions of pillared clays and anionic clays.

This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low dimensionality is a multifarious concept which applies to very diversified materials. Thus, examples of low-dimensional systems are structures with one or several layers, single lines or patterns of lines, and small clusters isolated or dispersed in solid systems. Such low dimensional features can be produced in a wide variety of materials systems with a broad spectrum of scientific and practical interests. These features, in turn, induce specific properties and, particularly, specific transport properties. In the case of zeolites, low dimensionality appears in the network of small-diameter pores of molecular size, extending in one, two or three di mensions, that these solids exhibit as a characteristic feature and which explains the term of "molecular sieves" currently used to name these ma terials. Indeed, a large number of industrial processes for separation of gases and liquids, and for catalysis are based upon the use of this low dimensional feature in zeolites. For instance, zeolites constitute the first class of catalysts employed allover the world. Because of the peculiarity and flexibility of their structure (and composition), zeolites can be adapted to suit many specific and diversified applications. For this reason, zeolites are presently the object of a large and fast-growing interest among chemists and chemical engineers.
