Book excerpt: L'objectif de cette étude thèse est de développer des méthodologies d'étude et de caractérisation permettant de modéliser et contrôler la cuisson de peintures en poudre thermodurcissables sous infrarouge. Deux types de peintures thermodurcissables – une résine polyester+TGIC et une résine époxy-polyester – sont utilisées. L’étape de caractérisation des systèmes préalable à la modélisation a consisté en l’étude de la cinétique de réticulation, des propriétés thermiques, radiatives et structurelles du film en formation. La cinétique réactionnelle, étudiée par DSC et méthodes isoconversionnelles s’est avérée être bien décrite par un modèle de Šesták-Berggren tandis que la réflectance, mesurée au moyen d’une sphère intégrante couplée à un spectromètre FTIR a été déterminée en fonction de la température et de l’état d’avancement de la réaction. La conductivité thermique est évaluée au moyen d’une combinaison de méthodes (fil chaud, plaque chaude, sonde à choc) et les propriétés strucutrelles observées par microscopie classique et confocale. Dans le but de disposer d’un outil “expérimental numérique”, deux types de modèles ont été développés. Un premier modèle de type 1D utilisant la méthode des volumes finis permet, à partir d’une puissance infrarouge donné et du spectre d’émission de l’émetteur, de calculer l’évolution des températures et de la réticulation au sein du film de peinture. Un second modèle de type 3D sous le logiciel Comsol (Méthode des Eléments Finis) nous a permis de valider un certain nombre d’hypothèses simplificatrices de l’ensemble ‘four + échantillon de peinture’. Ces modèles ont été validés à partir de cinétiques expérimentales types effectuées dans un four pilote développé au laboratoire. Enfin, à partir du modèle 1D, nous avons démontré la faisabilité de la commande du procédé en développant un algorithme de commande de type commande prédictive à modèle interne (MPC) permettant, à partir de la puissance infrarouge, de suivre une consigne en température au niveau d’un échantillon de peinture au cours de la cuisson
