Book Synopsis Case Studies on Educational Administration by : Theodore J. Kowalski
Download or read book Case Studies on Educational Administration written by Theodore J. Kowalski and published by Allyn & Bacon. This book was released on 2005 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book immerses prospective administrators in the realities of practice and decision-making through the use of a wide range of open-ended case studies. Effective practice in school administration involves making decisions about school management and reform, including issues such as state deregulation, district decentralization, and school restructuring. Leaders need to think beyond management and consider how to affect school culture, professional development, and changing populations. The cases in this book will help leaders address those issues by sharpening three key skills: (1) How to identify and solve problems; (2) How to develop and evaluate alternative solutions; (3) How to continuously refine professional knowledge. New To This Edition: Worksheets are now provided for each case to allow instructors greater flexibility for use. More emphasis on entry-level positions (assistant principal and principal) provides a broader perspective on school leadership. New cases for institutions, such as vocational schools and alternative schools, have been added to reflect the options that are available today with school choice. The cases have been thoroughly revised and updated to cover a range of current problems in practice so that new administrators will recognize the situations and understand how decisions can be applied. A new case dealing with No Child Left Behind Legislation has been added to illustrate current federal legislation. Book Synopsis Approaches to Administrative Training in Education by : Joseph Murphy
Download or read book Approaches to Administrative Training in Education written by Joseph Murphy and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1987-01-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses a long felt need to describe and investigate the education and training of school administrators. The topic is especially timely with the current emphasis on educational reform and reports from the 'effective schools' research which puts emphasis on the quality of leadership, especially principals. Patricia A. Schmuck, Lewis and Clark College In this important new collection Murphy and Hallinger bring together descriptions of a wide range of the new models in use in educational administrative training. Most of these eleven models have developed in response to contemporary criticism of the educational administrative theory movement, and each, in its own way, strives to bridge the chasm between educational theory and practice. The approaches represented here stress the importance of the administrators' engagement in the daily life of the school, and encourage administrators to learn from one another. While some models have come from leadership academies, others have been developed and tested in state departments of education, professional associations, and educational institutions. The book represents an important resource for those working with pre- and inservice administrators as they learn ways in which their involvement can improve the nation's schools.

Book Synopsis Issues and Problems in Contemporary Educational Administration by : Keith Goldhammer
Download or read book Issues and Problems in Contemporary Educational Administration written by Keith Goldhammer and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major issues and problems facing public school superintendents were defined through an analysis of conferences and personal interviews with 47 administrators of various-sized districts in 22 states. Assisting the research team were personnel from 11 state departments of education, six regional educational laboratories, 36 colleges and universities, and the USOE. Findings of the study indicate that public school superintendents are apprehensive and concerned. Many feel their training was inadequate for the conditions under which they now work and question the value of the few in-service training programs available to them. They find it difficult to define proper actions for themselves and their school districts, especially with regard to educational change, teacher militancy, aspects of instruction, administrative leadership, critical social issues, and educational finance. Recommendations are made relative to the services which should be provided to superintendents by colleges and universities, state departments of education, regional educational laboratories, administrators associations, the university council for educational administration, and the USOE.
