There are three other books on the Ten Commandments, this one deals with the last four. Each Commandment needs in fact a whole book, but I preferred to present them in such a concentrated way. They are perhaps expounded in more detail in my series on "Spiritual Warfare" and in the series of "So Many Years with the Problems of the People". I pray God may give us power that we may behave according to His commandments, written by His finger due to their great importance. Pope Shenouda III

This book was released on 1993-07-02 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ten Commandments were not meant for the times of the prophet Moses nor the times of the Old Testament, but were rather addressed to every generation, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law (Matt. 5:18). Through Christianity, the Ten Commandments were given a new meaning which coincided with the new standards understood by the believers in the New Testament. So the Commandments remain the same but their concept widens as God grants with His grace an opportunity for meditation. How true then was the prophet David when he said, "I have seen the consummation of all perfection, But Your commandment is exceedingly broad." (Ps. 119:96). This series of lectures were given in 1967 and have been published more than once. Pope Shenouda III

Download or read book Words of Life written by Adam Hamilton and published by Convergent Books. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if the Ten Commandments were not just a set of ancient rules, but a guide to experiencing the good life today? “Adam Hamilton is a teacher of the highest order, able to bridge the gap between very old divine teaching and very current human reality.”—Barbara Brown Taylor, author of Always a Guest: Speaking of Faith Far from Home Nearly everyone has heard of the Ten Commandments, the list of “thou-shalt-nots” found in the Bible. Jesus saw these commandments not as onerous burdens, but as guideposts to help us experience a good and beautiful life. These ten ancient “words” were given to us by a loving God who longed to set safe boundaries, create order out of chaos, help communities live peacefully, and protect us—often from ourselves. In this book of Scripture and inspiration, bestselling author Adam Hamilton brings modern eyes to the most important set of ethics in history. He considers the commandments in their historical context, considering the meaning of each commandment in Hebrew, unpacking how Jesus reinterpreted them, and showing how every thou-shalt-not was intended to point to a life-giving “thou shalt.” He also explores how the latest research in science and psychology illuminates these commandments, rightly understood, as a way of ordering one's life beautifully in the present day. In a culture marked by workaholism, materialism, and social media-driven envy, God has given us a time-tested path that leads to gratitude, confidence, and peace. A landmark work from one of our most trusted biblical thinkers, Words of Life is an inspiring, thought-provoking read for anyone seeking to live a meaningful and joyful life.

Book Synopsis The Institutes of Biblical Law Vol. 1 by : R. J. Rushdoony
Download or read book The Institutes of Biblical Law Vol. 1 written by R. J. Rushdoony and published by Chalcedon Foundation. This book was released on 2009-11-16 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To attempt to study Scripture without studying its law is to deny it. To attempt to understand Western civilization apart from the impact of Biblical law within it and upon it is to seek a fictitious history and to reject twenty centuries and their progress. The Institutes of Biblical Law has as its purpose a reversal of the present trend. it is called "Institutes" in the older meaning of the that word, i.e., fundamental principles, here of law, because it is intended as a beginning, as an instituting consideration of that law which must govern society, and which shall govern society under God. To understand Biblical law, it is necessary to understand also certain basic characteristics of that law. In it, certain broad premises or principles are declared. These are declarations of basic law. The Ten Commandments give us such declarations. A second characteristics of Biblical law, is that the major portion of the law is case law, i.e., the illustration of the basic principle in terms of specific cases. These specific cases are often illustrations of the extent of the application of the law; that is, by citing a minimal type of case, the necessary jurisdictions of the law are revealed. The law, then, asserts principles and cites cases to develop the implications of those principles, with is purpose and direction the restitution of God's order.

Book Synopsis Preaching the Ten Commandments by : Jeffrey A. Ingraham
Download or read book Preaching the Ten Commandments written by Jeffrey A. Ingraham and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the Ten Commandments to see how they are relevant for us today. Initially presented as a series of sermons delivered in an African American congregation, the author offers new ways of understanding and applying these universal and timeless truths first given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. In some of the chapters, Dr. Ingraham defies political correctness in offering his personal convictions. In the chapter dealing with the commandment forbidding murder, he challenges the fallacy of those who advocate abolishing capital punishment because it does not stop the commission of that crime. He retorts, Why not abolish speeding laws since people continue to speed! In all the commandments, the author provides practical ways for Christians in particular to fulfill them. In the chapter forbidding adultery, he presents ways that couples might foster their relationship. In the chapter forbidding the desecration of Gods name, he presents alternatives of the kind of speech we should engage in. The book is reader friendly, and each chapter concludes with questions for discussion. It is an excellent resource for both personal and group study.
Book Synopsis Contemplations on the Book of Jonah the Prophet by : H.H. Pope Shenouda III

This book was released on 1993-02-01 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Jonah the Prophet is full of wonderful spiritual contemplation. Our aim in this book is to tackle purely the spiritual side, and not the theological side. Our aim is to benefit and not to debate. We wish to take from this beautiful Book beneficial lessons for our life. We wish to benefit from God's work and from people's virtues and faults. How beautiful is the Church's choice! She chose this Book to be the prelude of the forty days of Lent! A beautiful story of repentance and fasting precedes the Great Lent by two weeks, that we may approach the holy forty days with a clean heart attached to the Lord. It is remarkable that many of those who study the Book of Jonah concentrate on the people of Nineveh and their fast and overlook the mariners and Jonah with his problem. Pope Shenouda III
