Download or read book Contaminants for Aircraft Turbine Engine Fuel System Component Testing written by AE-5B Aircraft and Engine Fuel and Lubricant Sys Components and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document discusses descriptions of fluid contamination products. These contaminants are used for design evaluation and formal component qualification/certification testing. Such tests are routinely performed on candidate aircraft engine fuel and pneumatic system components. Typical of these components are fuel pumps, fuel filters, fuel controls, pressurizing valves, flow dividers, selector valves, and combustor nozzles. The purpose of this document is to recommend standard descriptions to be used by specification writers. Five year review/revision: (1) update to include JSSG specification, (2) update to clarify cotton linters specification, (3) additional detail on replacement dusts for Arizona Test Dusts, (4) update to clarify applicability of MIL-E-5007 and MIL-E-8593 specifications, (5) update to include MAP749, (6) Deletion of the detailed discussion on cumulative and differential distribution error accumulation since this is not necessarily valid with the current methods for determining particle size distributions, (7) update to include graphite epoxy contaminant (GEC), (8) update to include explosion suppressent foam (ESF) contaminant, (9) update to include copper contamination, and (10) editorial changes.

This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This recommended practice describes a method for conducting room temperature, contaminated fuel, endurance testing when the applicable specification requires nonrecirculation of the contaminants. The objective of the test is to determine the resistance of engine fuel system components to wear or damage caused by contaminated fuel operation. It is not intended as a test for verification of the component's filter life. ARP1827 is recommended for filter evaluation.

Book Synopsis Definition of Aviation Turbine Fuel Contamination Under Simulated Combat Conditions by : J. A. Russell
Download or read book Definition of Aviation Turbine Fuel Contamination Under Simulated Combat Conditions written by J. A. Russell and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: JP-4 drain samples were obtained from Army aircraft, tank trucks, and other points in the fuel supply system at six field exercises under intensive training conditions. The samples were analyzed for particulate contaminants and compared to the contaminants package for test fluids used in aviation gas turbine engine component and systems qualification testing under AV-E-8593B. Results indicate that (a) the vast majority of samples had contamination concentration levels several orders of magnitude less than the AV-E-8593B package, (b) an unexpectedly high number of aircraft drain samples (roughly 7 percent) and numerous points in the refueling systems showed concentrations far exceeding this package. Both the quantities and chemical nature of these particulate contaminants indicate that the AV-E-8593B package is realistic and representative of contamination which can occasionally occur in field Army operations. The utilization of this contaminants package therefore provides suitably stringent criteria for bench test qualification of aviation gas turbine engine fuel system components.

Book Synopsis Aviation Fuels with Improved Fire Safety by : National Research Council
Download or read book Aviation Fuels with Improved Fire Safety written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-09-18 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reduction of the fire hazard of fuel is critical to improving survivability in impact-survivable aircraft accidents. Despite current fire prevention and mitigation approaches, fuel flammability can overwhelm post-crash fire scenarios. The Workshop on Aviation Fuels with Improved Fire Safety was held November 19-20, 1996 to review the current state of development, technological needs, and promising technology for the future development of aviation fuels that are most resistant to ignition during a crash. This book contains a summary of workshop discussions and 11 presented papers in the areas of fuel and additive technologies, aircraft fuel system requirements, and the characterization of fuel fires.
Book Synopsis Measuring Aircraft Gas Turbine Engine Fine Fuel Filter Element Performance by : AE-5B Aircraft and Engine Fuel and Lubricant Sys Components
Download or read book Measuring Aircraft Gas Turbine Engine Fine Fuel Filter Element Performance written by AE-5B Aircraft and Engine Fuel and Lubricant Sys Components and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) delineates two complementary filter element performance ratings: (1) dirt capacity, and (2) filtration efficiency, and corresponding test procedures. It is intended for non-cleanable (disposable), fine fuel filter elements used in aviation gas turbine engine fuel systems. The document is being revised for: (1) addition of references to jet fuels, (2) correction of one error in conversion units of gpm to lpm in para, 4., (3) clarification of some definitions in glossary of terms, (4) deletion of NIST SRM 2806 reference dust lot in para.1.3 since this is no longer the only reference lot. and deletion ofr references to Revision A, (5) revision of the test set-up for dirt capacity determination in fuel to include fuel recirculation (by-pass) loop, (6) revision of the test set-up to ensure homogeneous suspension of the test contaminant and minimize contaminant settling and variation in test results due to variations in test fuel, (7) improved definition of the system clean-up filter efficiency and coalescer water removal efficiency, (8) clarification of the amount of test contaminant to be used for validation of the dirt capacity test circuit, (9) editorial changes in para. 6.7.1.2, 6.7.1.5, 7.6(deleted), 7.10 for clarification of procedure.

Download or read book Aircraft Turbine Engine Pneumatic Component Contaminated Air Endurance Test written by AC-9 Aircraft Environmental Systems Committee and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This recommended practice describes a method of conducting an endurance test using contaminated air when the applicable specification requires non-recirculation of the contaminants. The objective of the test is to determine the resistance of the engine mounted components to wear or damage caused by the contaminated air.The method described herein calls for non-recirculation of the contaminants and is intended to provide a uniform distribution of the contaminant at the inlet to the Unit Under Test (UUT).The UUT may require the use of a hydraulic fluid for actuation of components within the test unit. Contamination of this test fluid is not part of this recommended practice, however, if required by applicable test specification, refer to MAP 749A. ARP4014 has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE five-year review policy.
