Book Synopsis Constructible Sets in Real Geometry by : Carlos Andradas
Download or read book Constructible Sets in Real Geometry written by Carlos Andradas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic and unified report on the minimal description of constructible sets. It starts at a very basic level (almost undergraduate) and leads up to state-of-the-art results, many of which are published in book form for the very first time. The book contains numerous examples, 63 figures and each chapter ends with a section containing historical notes. The authors tried to keep the presentation as self-contained as it can possibly be.
Book Synopsis Valuation Theory and Its Applications by : Franz-Viktor Kuhlmann
Download or read book Valuation Theory and Its Applications written by Franz-Viktor Kuhlmann and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first of two proceedings volumes stemming from the International Conference and Workshop on Valuation Theory held at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, SK, Canada). Valuation theory arose in the early part of the twentieth century in connection with number theory and has many important applications to geometry and analysis: the classical application to the study of algebraic curves and to Dedekind and Prufer domains; the close connection to the famousresolution of the singularities problem; the study of the absolute Galois group of a field; the connection between ordering, valuations, and quadratic forms over a formally real field; the application to real algebraic geometry; the study of noncommutative rings; etc. The special feature of this book isits focus on current applications of valuation theory to this broad range of topics. Also included is a paper on the history of valuation theory. The book is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians working in algebra, algebraic geometry, number theory, and mathematical logic.
Book Synopsis Encyclopaedia of Mathematics by : Michiel Hazewinkel
Download or read book Encyclopaedia of Mathematics written by Michiel Hazewinkel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF MATHEMATICS aims to be a reference work for all parts of mathe matics. It is a translation with updates and editorial comments of the Soviet Mathematical Encyclopaedia published by 'Soviet Encyclopaedia Publishing House' in five volumes in 1977-1985. The annotated translation consists of ten volumes including a special index volume. There are three kinds of articles in this ENCYCLOPAEDIA. First of all there are survey-type articles dealing with the various main directions in mathematics (where a rather fine subdivi sion has been used). The main requirement for these articles has been that they should give a reasonably complete up-to-date account of the current state of affairs in these areas and that they should be maximally accessible. On the whole, these articles should be understandable to mathematics students in their first specialization years, to graduates from other mathematical areas and, depending on the specific subject, to specialists in other domains of science, en gineers and teachers of mathematics. These articles treat their material at a fairly general level and aim to give an idea of the kind of problems, techniques and concepts involved in the area in question. They also contain background and motivation rather than precise statements of precise theorems with detailed definitions and technical details on how to carry out proofs and constructions. The second kind of article, of medium length, contains more detailed concrete problems, results and techniques.
Book Synopsis The Gröbner Cover by : Antonio Montes
Download or read book The Gröbner Cover written by Antonio Montes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-01 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is divided into two parts, one theoretical and one focusing on applications, and offers a complete description of the Canonical Gröbner Cover, the most accurate algebraic method for discussing parametric polynomial systems. It also includes applications to the Automatic Deduction of Geometric Theorems, Loci Computation and Envelopes. The theoretical part is a self-contained exposition on the theory of Parametric Gröbner Systems and Bases. It begins with Weispfenning’s introduction of Comprehensive Gröbner Systems (CGS) in 1992, and provides a complete description of the Gröbner Cover (GC), which includes a canonical discussion of a set of parametric polynomial equations developed by Michael Wibmer and the author. In turn, the application part selects three problems for which the Gröbner Cover offers valuable new perspectives. The automatic deduction of geometric theorems (ADGT) becomes fully automatic and straightforward using GC, representing a major improvement on all previous methods. In terms of loci and envelope computation, GC makes it possible to introduce a taxonomy of the components and automatically compute it. The book also generalizes the definition of the envelope of a family of hypersurfaces, and provides algorithms for its computation, as well as for discussing how to determine the real envelope. All the algorithms described here have also been included in the software library “grobcov.lib” implemented in Singular by the author, and serve as a User Manual for it.

Download or read book The Joy of Sets written by Keith Devlin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text covers the parts of contemporary set theory relevant to other areas of pure mathematics. After a review of "naïve" set theory, it develops the Zermelo-Fraenkel axioms of the theory before discussing the ordinal and cardinal numbers. It then delves into contemporary set theory, covering such topics as the Borel hierarchy and Lebesgue measure. A final chapter presents an alternative conception of set theory useful in computer science.

Book Synopsis A Course in Mathematical Logic by : Yu.I. Manin
Download or read book A Course in Mathematical Logic written by Yu.I. Manin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. This book is above all addressed to mathematicians. It is intended to be a textbook of mathematical logic on a sophisticated level, presenting the reader with several of the most significant discoveries of the last ten or fifteen years. These include: the independence of the continuum hypothe sis, the Diophantine nature of enumerable sets, the impossibility of finding an algorithmic solution for one or two old problems. All the necessary preliminary material, including predicate logic and the fundamentals of recursive function theory, is presented systematically and with complete proofs. We only assume that the reader is familiar with "naive" set theoretic arguments. In this book mathematical logic is presented both as a part of mathe matics and as the result of its self-perception. Thus, the substance of the book consists of difficult proofs of subtle theorems, and the spirit of the book consists of attempts to explain what these theorems say about the mathematical way of thought. Foundational problems are for the most part passed over in silence. Most likely, logic is capable of justifying mathematics to no greater extent than biology is capable of justifying life. 2. The first two chapters are devoted to predicate logic. The presenta tion here is fairly standard, except that semantics occupies a very domi nant position, truth is introduced before deducibility, and models of speech in formal languages precede the systematic study of syntax.
