Book Synopsis Consolidated Gold Fields in Australia by : Robert Porter
Download or read book Consolidated Gold Fields in Australia written by Robert Porter and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2020-04-29 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consolidated Gold Fields was a major British mining house founded by Cecil Rhodes in 1892. Diversifying from its South African gold interests, the company invested widely during the following century. This included investments in the Western Australian gold sector from the 1920s and exploration and mining activities elsewhere in Australia and the Territory of New Guinea. In the 1960s, Consolidated Gold Fields Australia (CGFA) was formed. CGFA had ambitious plans and the financial backing from London to establish itself as one of the main diversified mining companies in Australia. Investments were held in the historic Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company, in Renison, and it was one of the first groups to develop iron ore deposits in the Pilbara of Western Australia. It also acquired a major interest in mineral sands. While the London-based Consolidated Gold Fields ceased to exist in 1989, taken over and dismembered by renowned corporate raider Hanson Plc, its Australian subsidiary, renamed Renison Goldfields Consolidated (RGC), continued for another nine years as a diversified mining group before it suffered its own corporate demise, facilitated by Hanson. CGFA and RGC were important participants in Australia’s post–World War II mining sector. This book is a history of a once great British mining-finance house and its investments in Australia. Consolidated Gold Fields had a rich and broad history in Australia; its ultimate fate did not demonstrate its potential as an Australian mining company.

Book Synopsis The Multinational Enterprise and Legal Control by : Cynthia Day Wallace
Download or read book The Multinational Enterprise and Legal Control written by Cynthia Day Wallace and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2002-04-02 with total page 1364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This long-awaited new book from Cynthia Day Wallace picks up the thread of her best-selling "Legal Control of the Multinational Enterprise: National Regulatory Techniques and the Prospects for International Controls," In the present work she applies herself to legal and pragmatic aspects of control surrounding MNE operations. The primary focus is on legal and administrative techniques and measures practised by host states to control - transparently or less so - foreign MNE activity within their territories, or even extraterritorially when effects are felt within national boundaries. The primary geographic focus is the six most investment-intensive industrialized states (namely, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom). At the same time an important message of the present study is precisely the implication for the developing countries as well as for the emerging market economies of central and eastern Europe - and even Asian nations besides Japan, because it is the sharing of this very 'experience of years' that can best serve to facilitate a fuller participation on the part of the up-and-coming economies in the same global market place.

Download or read book Insider Trading written by Paul U. Ali and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-08-22 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essential Reading on an Expanding Phenomenon The recent growth in mergers and acquisitions worldwide has been accompanied by a resurgence in insider trading on a scale not witnessed since the 1980s takeovers boom. Given the greater emphasis on insider trading in the global securities markets, this text combines the latest law and finance research on this ever-intriguing area with timely, expert perspectives to comprehensively cover the established US, European, and Asia-Pacific securities markets, as well as the key emerging markets of Brazil and the greater China region. Addresses These Fundamental Questions: What are the relative costs and benefits of insider trading? What is the rationale for criminalizing insider trading? Should insider trading that causes security prices to rise be subjected to harsher criminal and civil sanctions than trading that decreases securities costs? Examines Newsworthy and Recent Case Histories This text brings together econometric analysis of insider trading with qualitative papers that focus on insider trading regulation. This combination of legal and economic perspectives makes Insider Trading: Regulation and Analysis a useful reference not only for financial academics, but also securities attorneys and managers and those involved with corporate governance. Recently, the SEC Chairman called insider trading a major risk for US financial markets – a public acknowledgement that the prosecution of insider trading is a priority for the US Securities and Exchange Commission. This speaks to the need for this publication as a guide to the wide-reaching and highly relevant area of insider trading. .
