Book Synopsis Vulnerability and Adaptation in Water Sector by : Pradip Gautam
Download or read book Vulnerability and Adaptation in Water Sector written by Pradip Gautam and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change and its potential impacts are well documented in many literatures. Very little academic studies exists that systematically analyses how communities are vulnerable to change, what are their coping measures and, are these measures adequate enough in long run as an adaptation to the change. Thus, this book is about current assessments of climate variability, water diversion and their cumulative effect on adaptation of local people living downstream area in a watershed of Nepal. Derived from the "participatory vulnerability assessment approach" Smit and Wandel, the system approach was adopted in order to combine results after hydro meteorological parameters analysis with the results from qualitative enquiry to understand local people s exposure to climate variability and risk of reduced downstream flow due to diversion of River water in the Melamchi- a mountain watershed of Nepal. This study is useful for development organizations, professionals, and individuals who are working in the field of climate change adaptation, particularly in water sector.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possible impacts of global climate change on different countries has led to the development and ratification of the Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC) and has a strong bearing on the future sustainable development of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The preparation of analytical methodologies and tools for carrying out assessments of vulnerability and adaptation to climate change is therefore of prime importance to these countries. Such assessments are needed to both fulfill the reporting requirements of the countries under the FCCC as well as to prepare their own climate change adaptation and mitigation plans. The vulnerability and adaptation assessment guidelines prepared by the U.S. Country Studies Program bring together all the latest knowledge and experience from around the world on both vulnerability analysis as well as adaptation methodologies. It is currently being applied successfully by scientists in over fifty countries from all the regions of the globe. This guidance is being published to share it with the wider scientific community interested in global climate change issues. This guidance document has two primary purposes: • To assist countries in making decisions about the scope and methods for their vulnerability and adaptation assessments, • To provide countries with guidance and step-by-step instructions on each of the basic elements of vulnerability and adaptation assessments.

Book Synopsis Climate Change Adaptation in the Water Sector by : Fulco Ludwig
Download or read book Climate Change Adaptation in the Water Sector written by Fulco Ludwig and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-04 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's climate variability already has a large impact on water supply and protection. Millions of people are affected every year by droughts and floods. Future climate change is likely to make things worse. Many people within the water sector are aware that climate change is expected to have serious consequences for water resource management, but they are unsure how to incorporate climate information into their management structures. Providing a compendium of specific strategies, Climate Change Adaptation in the Water Sector is the first book to show students and professionals in the water sector how to adapt to climate change and variability. It enables advanced students, managers, decision-makers and other practitioners to feel comfortable in analysing and using climate data within the water sector. The book consists of two parts: the first describes the general issues and is written mainly by the editors of the book, while the second part contains specific case studies drawn from a wide range of contrasting countries: Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, the Philippines, South Africa, Thailand and Yemen. Published in association with the Co-operative Programme on Water and Climate, NeWater, UNESCO and WATCH (Water and Global Change)

Book Synopsis Sustainability of Integrated Water Resources Management by : Shimelis Gebriye Setegn
Download or read book Sustainability of Integrated Water Resources Management written by Shimelis Gebriye Setegn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-04 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main focus of this book is sustainable management of water resources in a changing climate. The book also addresses the question of how to define and measure the sustainability of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). The sustainability of IWRM is an important issue when planning and/or developing policies that consider the impact of climate change, water governance and ecohydrology in the context of a more holistic approach to ensure sustainable management of water resources. Sustainable IWRM is more about processes, and relatively little systematic or rigorous work has been done to articulate what components are the most essential to ensure the ongoing sustainability of IWRM efforts. The chapters cover topics including global prospective of IWRM; allocation of environmental flows in IWRM; echohydrology, water resources and environmental sustainability; climate change and IWRM; IWRM and water governance including social, economic, public health and cultural aspects; climate change resiliency actions related to water resources management sustainability and tools in support of sustainability for IWRM. This book will be of interest to researchers, practitioners, water resources mangers, policy and decision makers, donors, international institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations, educators, as well as graduate and undergraduate students. It is a useful reference for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), ecohydrology, climate change impact and adaptations, water governance, environmental flows, geographic information system and modeling tools, water and energy nexus and related topics.
Book Synopsis Modelling the Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources by : C. Fai Fung
Download or read book Modelling the Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources written by C. Fai Fung and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-07-05 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quantitative assessment of the impact of climate change on water availability and water resources management requires knowledge of climate, hydro(geo)logical and water resources models, and particularly the relationships between each of them. This book brings together world experts on each of these aspects, distilling each complex topic into concise and easy to understand chapters, in which both the uses and limitations of modelling are explored. The book concludes with a set of case studies using real-life examples to illustrate the steps required and the problems that can be faced in assessing the potential impacts of climate change on water resource systems. For students, scientists, engineers and decision-makers alike, this book provides an invaluable and critical look at the information that is provided by climate models, and the ways it is used in modelling water systems. A key focus is the exploration of how uncertainties may accrue at each stage of an impacts assessment, and the reliability of the resulting information. The book is a practical guide to understanding the opportunities and pitfalls in the quantitative assessment of climate change impacts and adaptation in the water resource sector.
