Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you ever wonder why your golf scores never improve much even after many years of experience? And, did you know putting contributes about 40% to your total score, making putting the single most important part of your golf game? Do you want to improve? Then, this book is a MUST read! Golfers need to understand and come to grips with the harsh realities putting places on them as well as the many factors that impact putting success, many more mental than physical; therefore, this book leaves the fundamentals of putting stroke to others. To assist golfers, or golfer “wannabes”, the author utilizes his 30 years’ experience in sport performance enhancement and 60 years of playing golf to provide a framework that will lead to increased putting performance IF you will follow some of book’s suggestions. The book is written in a conversational style, with the intent of having the reader interact with material presented – responding to questions, agreeing or disagreeing with a certain perspective, and perhaps searching your conscience for the “why’s” and “why not’s”. Innumerable drills and strategies are offered, both to improve the physical and mental sides of the golf game. Insights into how and what to practice, based on proven approaches, are emphasized to counter the haphazard way most golfers typically practice. Putting really is a head game. I certainly enjoyed reading your book. You have brought every act of putting to the surface. FINALLY a putting book that doesn’t talk about the stroke the whole time. I truly believe the best formula for making putts is to roll the ball on the correct line at the correct speed. Of the two elements speed is the most important. The other tangibles that go with it are to read greens correctly and to have confidence in your stroke and read. You seem to have touched on each one of the topics in depth. The object of putting is to putt the ball in the hole NOT to move the putter in a certain direction or a certain way. The added humor was a nice touch. Good luck with the publishing of the book and sign me up for a finished copy. Nice job. Michael B. Krick, Head Golf Professional Carolina Trace Country Club Sanford, North Carolina

It tells the real story of what I went through and how countless athletes of all levels are still going through now.....unnecessarily. When no one else could, they helped me to recognize how my throwing problems came directly from sports traumas that were stuck in my brain. And then Grand and Goldberg had the knowhow to release it with the miracle of Brainspotting." Mackey Sasser Former catcher for NY Mets "THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS is a MUST READ for athletes, their parents and coaches, as well as for all psychotherapists and performance experts. In case you didn't know it, THE YIPS has a clearly explainable relationship to past trauma. All one has to do is take a detailed history of the life of an athlete from his/her earliest childhood, relate that to his/her history of physical injuries and throw in a dollop of shame and criticism from parents and coaches and the reason for the yips emerges with crystal clarity. These facts are clearly illustrated in this compelling, fascinating and ground-breaking book by Drs. Grand and Goldberg. Brain-based principles of body-based memory, neurosensitization and cue-related anxiety from the trauma literature clearly prove that the yips come from post-traumatic stress syndrome. And Brainspotting has shown to be dramatically effective in mitigating, and even healing, this vexing syndrome." Robert Scaer, MD Author of THE BODY BEARS THE BURDEN and THE TRAUMA SPECTRUM THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS: Beating Blocks, Slumps and Performance Anxiety for Good is the ground-breaking book that will change the face of sports performance forever. This book introduces the breakthrough concept of STSD (Sport Traumatic Stress Disorder). Grand and Goldberg have discovered that STSDs are the cause of most significant performance problems. Performance blocks and anxiety, including the yips, stem from accumulated sports traumas including sports injuries, failures and humiliations. The authors also introduce the Brainspotting Sports Performance System (BSPS) which quickly finds, releases and resolves the sports traumas held in your brain and body. An easy read, THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS is filled with engaging, informative, inspiring stories. These case examples illustrate how professional, elite, collegiate and junior athletes have been freed for good from this silent "epidemic" of performance blocks and anxiety including: the yips, "Steve Blass disease," "Mackey Sasser syndrome," protracted slumps, balking, choking and freezing. THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SPORTS provides the answers and the cure for athletes, their coaches and parents about "Beating Blocks, Slumps and Performance Anxiety for Good " Grand and Goldberg also show how their BSPS can take all athletes to levels they could only heretofore dream of www.thisisyourbrainonsports.com

Book excerpt: The renowned instructor behind elite pros such as Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh shows you how to conquer the ten shots you fear the most. Some golfers stand over shots with so much fear in their hearts that they can't bear to swing their clubs. Others, filled with anxiety, butcher shots they might otherwise hit reasonably well. After conducting worldwide surveys to determine which shots golfers fear the most, master golf instructor Dave Pelz has focused his skilled research and development on creating a methodology and conditioning process proven to teach golfers how to conquer their top 10 most feared shots. The first book to use the "Golfer's Eye View(tm)"-a technique developed for Pelz by "hall of fame" golf photographer Leonard Kamsler-Dave Pelz's Golf without Fear features Pelz's signature combination of science and savvy. Coaching readers through their shots, Pelz offers a visual method of instruction, with close-up images of the problems that caused their fears, the solutions to those problems, and step-by-step instructions for how to execute those shots with confidence in the future. He retrains golfers to apply precise, clearly defined body positions and setups, in addition to specific techniques for the moment when contact with the ball occurs, making Dave Pelz's Golf without Fear a trove of score-saving lessons. With full-color photography throughout, this is a powerful course in making winners out of even your worst shots.

Book excerpt: Getting a Grip on the Yips is the third book in The Golfing Brain series by James H. Grubbs. There is no dearth of books, articles, online posts, and podcasts about the affliction known as “the yips.” You’d think that by now we’d know their cause. But no. Theories abound, but a definitive explanation has, up to now, been lacking. The author, a psychiatrist and lifelong competitive golfer, has been personally acquainted with the yips several times. He’s known many other golfers plagued by the yips, including one of the most famous yippers, professional golf instructor Hank Haney. Over the years, Dr. Grubbs has read extensively on the subject, talked to countless fellow golfers and several golf gurus about the yips, and has even helped golfers overcome them. Yet, after all that, a clear understanding of the cause of the yips eluded him and the entire golfing world. Determined to discover the cause of the yips, Dr. Grubbs reviewed existing theories about the malady and the evidence supporting them. He examined myths and misconceptions about the yips. He also delved into current neurological research about how the brain plans and executes movement. This book is the result of his quest. In it, he defines the yips and describes a definitive cause of them, not only as they appear in golf but also in any activity that depends on repetitive movement, such as baseball, darts, cricket, and playing musical instruments. He explains why some remedies for the yips have been at least partially effective and suggests new (and more effective) ways of curing the yips. He even confirms his theory by causing the yips in a few brave subjects.

Book excerpt: "In Empowerment: The Competitive Edge in Sports, Business & Life high-profile personality Dr. Gene Landrum presents, in a self-help format, the 13 winning behaviors modeled by the 13 greatest athletes of the modern era. Landrum's research into the lives of the great entrepreneurs and athletes, supported by a growing body of evidence, suggests that eminence, whether in business or sports derives not from genetic superiority, but from winning behaviors and learned emotional dispositions. With a delightful blend of gifted story-telling and intellectual scholarship, Dr. Landrum has created a book that melds the recent discoveries in psychology and brain research with the dramatic performances of the world's greatest athletes. Charismatic athletes such as Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong, Martina Navratilova and Tiger Woods are analyzed in psycho-biographical profiles that focus on the underlying motivations and behaviors of these preeminent personalities rather than on what they achieved. In this respect and in its connection to the recent research in brain function and psychology, Dr. Landrum's work is unprecedented in the extant literature on athletes and athletic technique."--Amazon.com.
