Book Synopsis Concrete-filled Tubular Members and Connections by : Xiao-Ling Zhao
Download or read book Concrete-filled Tubular Members and Connections written by Xiao-Ling Zhao and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using steel and concrete together utilizes the beneficial material properties of both elements. Concrete filled steel tubes represent a good example of a concrete – steel composite structure, and are particularly useful as columns in high rise buildings and bridge piers. They can be used in a range of fields, from civil and industrial construction through to the mining industry. Several aspects of concrete filled tubes have received little coverage in existing design standards, design guides or relevant books, but are addressed here: construction methods or quality and their effect on performance, confinement, creep effects, pre-load effects, size effects, seismic behaviour and post-fire behaviour, worked examples under practical conditions, numerical simulations, mechanics models, concrete-filled double skin tubes, SCC(self-consolidating concrete)-filled tubes, HPHSC (high performance high strength concrete)-filled tubes, high strength steel and thin-walled tubes filled with concrete, and fiber reinforced polymer strengthening of concrete filled tubes. This book not only summarizes the research performed to date on concrete-filled tubular members and connections but also compares the design rules in various standards (Eurocode 4, AISI-LRFD, ACI, AIJ and Chinese Standard), and provides design examples. An invaluable guide for professionals and a detailed source of information for graduate students and beyond.

Book Synopsis Connections to Concrete-filled Steel Tubes by : Yousef Mohammed Alostaz
Download or read book Connections to Concrete-filled Steel Tubes written by Yousef Mohammed Alostaz and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this research program was to study connections to concrete-filled steel tubes. This research focused on the connection to circular steel tubes, because this shape presents more detailing difficulties compared to the square counterpart. To accomplish the goals of this study, the research was divided into three phases: prototype frame design and analysis, a finite element analysis of several connections, and an experimental study on six large-scale connection specimens. In the first phase, two prototype moment-resisting steel frames were designed to satisfy the 1991 NEHRP Provisions. The inelastic performance of these frames was studied, and the connections with the highest ductility demand were isolated. The second phase of the research was devoted to the inelastic finite element analysis of several connection details. A 3-D finite element model was developed for each connection detail. The parameters used in the analytical study included: the diameter-to-tube wall thickness ratio, the applied axial load on the column, the moment-to-shear ratio of the girder, and the yield strength of the steel tube. In the third phase of the research, six 2/3rd-scale specimens were fabricated and tested with the quasi-static method. The flexural strength of the connection was the primary concern in this study. The analytical models and each experimental specimen were a T-shape configuration. A monotonic load was applied to the analytical finite element models. For the test specimens, a predetermined cyclic displacement was imposed at the girder tip, and the specimens were tested to destruction. Analytical and experimental results suggest that connections which attach exclusively to the tube wall exhibit large distortion of the tube wall in the connection vicinity, thus preventing the development of the girder flexural strength. Using external diaphragms improved the simple connection behavior, however, the performance was susceptible to the geometry of the diaphragm. The behavior was significantly improved when part of the girder forces was transferred to the concrete core. However, the improvement in behavior depended on the connection detail. Continuing the girder through the concrete-filled steel tube was the most effective method to develop the full plastic hinge in the connected girder.

Book Synopsis Concrete-Filled Stainless Steel Tubular Columns by : Vipulkumar Patel
Download or read book Concrete-Filled Stainless Steel Tubular Columns written by Vipulkumar Patel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete-filled stainless steel tubular (CFSST) columns are increasingly used in modern composite construction due to their high strength, high ductility, high corrosion resistance, high durability and aesthetics and ease of maintenance. Thin-walled CFSST columns are characterized by the different strain-hardening behavior of stainless steel in tension and in compression, local buckling of stainless steel tubes and concrete confinement. Design codes and numerical models often overestimate or underestimate the ultimate strengths of CFSST columns. This book presents accurate and efficient computational models for the nonlinear inelastic analysis and design of CFSST short and slender columns under axial load and biaxial bending. The effects of different strain-hardening characteristics of stainless steel in tension and in compression, progressive local and post-local buckling of stainless steel tubes and concrete confinement are taken into account in the computational models. The numerical models simulate the axial load-strain behavior, moment-curvature curves, axial load-deflection responses and axial load-moment strength interaction diagrams of CFSST columns. The book describes the mathematical formulations, computational procedures and model verifications for circular and rectangular CFSST short and slender columns. The behavior of CFSST columns under various loading conditions is demonstrated by numerous numerical examples. This book is written for practising structural and civil engineers, academic researchers and graduate students in civil engineering who are interested in the latest computational techniques and design methods for CFSST columns.
Book Synopsis Design Guide for Concrete-filled Double Skin Steel Tubular Structures by : Lin-Hai Han
Download or read book Design Guide for Concrete-filled Double Skin Steel Tubular Structures written by Lin-Hai Han and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-12 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first design guide on concrete filled double skin steel tubular (CFDST) structures. It addresses in particular CFDST structures with plain concrete sandwiched between circular hollow sections, and provides the relevant calculation methods and construction provisions for CFDST structures. These inherit the advantages of conventional concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) structures, including high strength, good ductility and durability, high fire resistance and favourable constructability. Moreover, because of their unique sectional configuration, CFDST structures have been proved to possess lighter weight, higher bending stiffness and better cyclic performance than conventional CFST. Consequently CFDST can offer reduced concrete consumption and construction costs. This design guide is for engineers designing electrical grid infrastructures, wind power towers, bridge piers and other structures requiring light self-weight, high bending stiffness and high bearing capacity.

Book Synopsis Performance of Steel Pipe Pile-to-concrete Cap Connections Subject to Seismic of High Transverse Loading, Phase III Confirmation of Connection Performance by : Jerry E. Stephens
Download or read book Performance of Steel Pipe Pile-to-concrete Cap Connections Subject to Seismic of High Transverse Loading, Phase III Confirmation of Connection Performance written by Jerry E. Stephens and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The efficacy of a new procedure developed by the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) to design concrete filled steel tube (CFT) pile to concrete pile cap connections was investigated in this project. A series of CFT piles embedded in a concrete pile cap is a desirable system to support small to mid-span bridges. Traditional methods for designing the connection between the CFT piles and pile cap often lead to congested and complex reinforcing schemes, and this complexity can limit the use of this support system. MDT has developed a simple design method for this connection utilizing a new reinforcing scheme that greatly simplifies the design and construction of this connection. The new reinforcing scheme includes U shaped reinforcing bars that encircle the embedded CFT piles within the cap that counteract the moment related demands introduced by the embedded pile under lateral load events. The efficacy of the MDT design method implementing the new reinforcing scheme, which was developed from previous research and testing completed by Montana State University, is evaluated in this research.
Book Synopsis Beam to Square Steel Tube Endplate Connection Using Thread-Fixed One-Side Bolts by : Peijun Wang

This book was released on 2024-07-30 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam to Square Steel Tube Endplate Connection Using Thread-fixed One-side Bolts: Analysis and Design provides research information on thread-fixed one-side bolt (TOB), which is anchored through screwed threads in the bolt hole. Although beam-column endplate connections have been studied by many researchers and been widely used in engineering applications, the standard high strength bolts are not convenient for the bolted beam to square tube column endplate connection. The one-side bolts, which can be installed and tightened from outside of the tube column, provide a solution for beam to closed section column bolted connections. This book introduces the basic principles and design methods regarding the failure modes, and the design method of load carrying capacity of endplate connection using thread-fixed one-side bolts. Presents the first book on thread-fixed one-side bolts bolted beam to square tube column endplate connection Provides both experimental and theoretical analysis results on thread-fixed one-side bolts and bolted beam to square tube column endplate connections Covers a new method for connecting the connection with closed-section components, which is of considerable engineering importance
