Book excerpt: After accidentally stealing the life force of a dying demon, Allay became the only human-demon hybrid in existence. Demons feed on human emotions, so Allay decided the safest way to satisfy this need—and still retain some semblance of her humanity—was to open a bar. Here she can drink from, and ease, her patrons’ pain, which has helped her to stay under the demon radar . . . until now. When Allay is attacked and nearly killed by another demon, a human comes to her rescue. Theo Ram is tall, handsome, and mortal—and Allay feels a connection to him she didn’t think she’d ever know. But that bond is tested when the demon community in New York begins to rise up, and two opposing clans fight for power. Now Allay is caught in the middle, and she must decide where her loyalties lie.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Confessions is my first person account of how I was physically occupied by demons after I received a spirit claiming to be "Jesus" and of the spiritual warfare that followed as I struggled to survive. I include actual excerpts from the daily journal I kept during the first five months of the battle.I also devote a chapter to the biblical evidence that a Christian can have demons, that is, be demonized. Other chapters on the means I used to survive and thrive will be helpful to those who have become occupied or even possessed by demons. And those in Christian ministry will find this book helpful in ministering to those afflicted by demons. In addition, I include an appendix on how to avoid the hazard of demonization or occupation by demons, a phenomenon likely to increase given the re-Paganization of Western Europe and America. This section includes the spiritual counterfeits such as apparitions of dead relatives that demons use to deceive and enter the spiritually unwary.

Even though their co- dependency towards one another is unhealthy, toxic, and dangerous, it's also unsafe for anyone to try and come between them. Demon's on a dangerous mission to eliminate anyone in his way of gaining complete control over Paterson. He uses his desire for wealth to mask his feelings of heartbreak. Silence is on a mission to secure her place as the woman by his side. Instead of helping him heal, she encourages his rage, which leads to numerous deaths. In this last installment, we will see if Demon and Silence's love can withstand all the secrets, lies, and murders they have accumulated together and separately.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 20, 1587, Walpurga Hausmännin of Dillingen in southern Germany was burned at the stake as a witch. Although she had confessed to committing a long list of maleficia (deeds of harmful magic), including killing forty—one infants and two mothers in labor, her evil career allegedly began with just one heinous act—sex with a demon. Fornication with demons was a major theme of her trial record, which detailed an almost continuous orgy of sexual excess with her diabolical paramour Federlin "in many divers places, . . . even in the street by night." As Walter Stephens demonstrates in Demon Lovers, it was not Hausmännin or other so-called witches who were obsessive about sex with demons—instead, a number of devout Christians, including trained theologians, displayed an uncanny preoccupation with the topic during the centuries of the "witch craze." Why? To find out, Stephens conducts a detailed investigation of the first and most influential treatises on witchcraft (written between 1430 and 1530), including the infamous Malleus Maleficarum (Hammer of Witches). Far from being credulous fools or mindless misogynists, early writers on witchcraft emerge in Stephens's account as rational but reluctant skeptics, trying desperately to resolve contradictions in Christian thought on God, spirits, and sacraments that had bedeviled theologians for centuries. Proof of the physical existence of demons—for instance, through evidence of their intercourse with mortal witches—would provide strong evidence for the reality of the supernatural, the truth of the Bible, and the existence of God. Early modern witchcraft theory reflected a crisis of belief—a crisis that continues to be expressed today in popular debates over angels, Satanic ritual child abuse, and alien abduction.

Book excerpt: Denounced by neighbors and scrutinized by demonologists, the early modern French witch also confessed, self-identified as a witch and as the author of horrific deeds. What led her to this point? Despair, solitude, perhaps even physical pain, but most decisively, demonology's two-pronged prosecutorial and truth-seeking confessional apparatus. This book examines the systematic and well-oiled machinery that served to extract, interpret, and disseminate witches' confessions in early modern France. For the demonologist, confession was the only way to find out the truth about the clandestine activities of witches. For the witch, however, trial confessions opened new horizons of selfhood. In this book, Virginia Krause unravels the threads that wove together the demonologist's will to know and the witch's subjectivity. By examining textual and visual evidence, Krause shows how confession not only generated demonological theory but also brought forth a specific kind of self, which we now recognize as the modern subject.
